So capable hes willing to tell a driver to crash on purpose and nearly bringing the entire team down with him instead of building a car that's capable of winning. He only orchestrated F1s lowest moment in recent history....
I generally think your videos are excellent, but here The Race comes off as agitated and angry rather than just giving us the facts. The news IS bizarre - that cannot be denied - but the tone of the commentary, and video in general is rather surprising, especially in comparison to the usual first rate content. At least personally I appreciate your channel for the balanced and level headed views that give us the whole picture and this update seems slightly off. Not a big deal - but, I thought it was worth pointing out.
a company is gonna do whats best for them in their view, only time would tell if they were right or not. and the last 3 race weeks have not been bad for them
Why does it seem that none of these insight videos mention the huge increase in F1 and therefore team revenue, and join the dots between that and the fact that Haas and Renault seem quite happy to sit in the mid to rear of the grid, and are not interested in selling. Has F1 turned from being a money pit into a cash cow?
The main problem for this team is its lack of commitment. They have yo-yoed back and forth for years now. Running a team, selling the team, to running the team again, rebranding the team. It seems to me that for years they have wanted immediate success and when things are going badly, they run around like headless chickens, fearful of the negative image to the Renault brand, so they sell or rebrand and unwilling to ride out the bad times, instead blaming mismanagement at team, other teams spending more etc. Instead of just bringing on a talent group of individuals, that know how to run a F1 team, trust in that process and ride through it. At this point in time, they could salvage some brand image, by saying they are focusing their efforts on new ruleset, as specifically the new engine rules are intriguing for future technology in their family Renault cars.
A Flashy, Grand, Lunatic. Stylish, and Scandalous, and Talented. Ladies love him, Enemies hate him. Nothing is fair, in Love, and War. Flavio is the embodiment of the F1 ethos. Always find a way to WIN! Better put some RESPECT on his name... Flavio is BACK, baby! 💋
The only conclusion that I can take from this is that Renault was probably supporting whatever Briatore did during the crashgate. He took the fall, they waited and rewarded his "loyalty".
There's nothing Absurd according to me by bringing in Flavio, when Ron Dennis was found guilty of copying Ferrari in 2007 which is famously dubbed as 'Spygate' nothing was done and when ethically bankrupt Horner still leads Redbull nothing was done, then why shouldn't Flavio after 15 years of hiatus or ban or whatever you'd like to classify it as. The pressure of winning is immense in Formula One, under that pressure team bosses have cracked and made decisions which were questionable and condemnable, you can't have angels running this sport neither they were any in the past, famously Collin Chapmen of Lotus was known to make lighter and structurally weaker cars to win which costed Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt and scores of other drivers their lives. It is still debated and a majority of the fans still believe it was steering column that broke on Ayrton Senna's car that day at Imola, but Frank Williams was untouched and so was Adrian Newey. That is the bottom line reality of Formula One, it's dark and yet it is spectacular. I just hope Flavio gets Mick Schumacher back to pair it up with Pierre Gasly.
You're comparing someone stealing data files to somebody potentially killing themselves/others on team orders... Think before you type next time, kiddo.
to be fair , Alpine suddenly got points after his announcement. I love Flavio , he brings more Italianess than Ferrari on the grid and off the grid as well. There is a reason why he won 4 world championships with arguably the 2 best drivers in the last 30 years more or less.
Im a newbie to the sport, so feel free to scream at me and teach me a lesson down here, but I think that’s a bit too critical. I know the success was 20, 30 years ago, but Briatore knows how to win *properly*. I don’t think that 1 incident literally throws his reputation out the window. Of course, it’s tainted, but saying it’s a massive L by Renault/Apline to bring in someone who has proven motorsport and F1 management pedigree and successful ones at that, as an advisor to your struggling F1 team, is a bit much. I suspect people are trying to manifest in their head, a takeover by Andretti.
Manipulating a crash in order to get a win in an unsportsmanlike manner is not an "incident" as you say. This is akin to football players getting involved in match fixing schemes and Briatore should suffer the consequences of his actions and stay far away from the sport as possible, not to be accepted back as a Messiah.
Nah .. Flavio is a genius and he deserves a 2nd chance, yeah he made a mistake and he was punished for it but he learnt his lesson and moved on like the rest of humans do. Also its not like all the current team principals are SAINTS who've never done anything wrong ever .. lol, remember allegations about Toto and his wife and allegations about Horner.
Why all the alpine slander? Sure, they are dislikable and an easy target. But to go from HARD, CLEAR last, to just about top 5 teams in less than half a season, DESPITE a nugget of an engine is impressive. Their car must be incredibly aerodynamically efficient, and their development has been swift and effective. They havent had a bad upgrade, and have shown linear improvement. Once again, this feels like the F1 press interpolating false truths.
I don’t see why it would be “crazy” to use another engine. Sure, Mercedes dominated for 7 years, but besides that, has there been a clear benefit to building your own engine over the last couple decades? McLaren seems to be doing just fine right now, and RedBull have been doing well the last few years and in 2010-13. Perhaps Renault should see what engine RB were using back then.
I think the presenter who is making such a deal about it should realise that not everyone shares his opinion - even convicts from prison get a second chance

On engine customers you said: “Such a move would completely discredit Renault’s F1 team, given running as an engine customer immediately sacrifices some performance potential.” But what about Red Bull winning three championships in a row with a Honda engine?
Did anybody else notice that the Andretti won’t tunnel pictures had a very similar airbox to the alpine. Also interesting that Renault is doing everything that would have it in the best position to sell the team.
The Brits will never stop hating Flavio despite him winning Hamilton a WDC in 2008. Why aren’t they this hard on Pat Symonds who was also part of Crash-Gate or the many, many engineers and TPs who’ve been involved in even more serious scandals. What difference does it make that he goes back to the same team?
Andretti: "But I bring Le Cadillac" FOM: "Shut up, we don´t want you. You would not add anything to the sport." Alpine: "Any of you got one of them engines for us? We don´t know how to build one" FOM: "Ah yes, these 10 teams are the absolute pinacle of motorsport, we don´t need anything else."
The past repeating itself... Briatore managed the team from midfield to constructors champions in the mid nineties... Then was replaced ... Came back to the team when they were backmarkers to win constructors championship in the mid noughties ... Then was replaced ...
Considering they’re trying to get Sainz to drive for them and Briatore’s got a good record with The Michael and Fernando, it’s probably not as ludicrous as people make out.

It's a good appointment, Alpine need someone like briatore to bring some leadership and competence to the team. He has had decades of success in F1.
He just came back in, suddenly both cars were in top 10 and bag points on race day. So...
I’m convinced lol
They were much more rapid than aston and williams this weekend its workinf
British media really jumping on the bandwagon to call the decision to hire a man, who has brought multiple teams to win WDC/WCC and never convicted/charged with wrongdoing, "absurd". Lol.
This reads like a hit piece..
Flav can spot Alpine problems from a distance of 1000km and he won't even need glasses. In spite of useless rants Flav is a highly accomplished F1 team principal.
I love this guy. F1 is far too dull. Bring back Flavio.
This generation of reporters don't want anyone to have a second chance. The anger in this dudes voice is so unproffessional lmao.
4:05 Let us not forget one of the reasons the FIA turned down Andretti was not a full works team starting out
All we can hope is that he advises the team to sell to Andretti 🏎️
Where pat symonds has just joined
Andretti is funny about inhabiting a losing entity. They’ll want to buy it on the cheap.
Renault dont want to sell, or invest into the programme, or restructure it or do anything other than complain. The Renault Group is ran by monkeys, the F1 team is just a victim.
Imagine wanting some private team that can’t even win a spec series over a former championship winning team. 🤡
Goldfish memory fans with no respect for the sport.
Getting a junk driver crash to help the other driver win is genius! They should get a medal!!
Well at least Briatore doesn't have a kid who wants to race in F1....
If Briatore is back, does that means alonso will be driving a Renault in 2025?
🤔🤔🤔🤔
At this point I pretty much want Renault to leave F1. And ideally never return. Bunch of clowns.
A real shame considering their history in the sport
@@MrSkeleton131 second most successful Engine manufacturer in F1 HISTORY by WCC's and WDC's if you look at the stats only behind Ferrari, nobody remembers this.
Alonso, Schumacher, Berger, Fisichella, Herbert, Piquet would all disagree
could've sold to andretti, hope micheal andretti are monitoring an option to join f1 by buying alpine
What does Renault need? Someone who knows how to make F1 business decisions on personnel, strategy and future plans. Briatore brings all of this to the table. Bringing him aboard therefore isn't as absurd as The Race is making it out to be.
Ironically, I think, Briatore might be the only way to safe the Renault/Alpine F1 project.
Great video as always guys!
Well, Briatore in, Alpine in the top 10. Seems like a good investment. Also, F1 lost the civil trial, and one of the finding was the "unfair trial",
Everyone's just taking their PR friendly stance of "ooh Flavio bad, 2008 buuuh". When actually he's just what they need.
Exactly, he is a very capable person which is what alpine needs.
So capable hes willing to tell a driver to crash on purpose and nearly bringing the entire team down with him instead of building a car that's capable of winning. At this level of sport, that's unacceptable. And rightfully so.... Its by far the biggest scandle in F1 history, probably the biggest stain on the sport that's still having reprocussions to this day. Massa is still causing issues about that championship, Lewis is still dealing with people questioning the legitimacy of that years Championship, and F1 suffers every time its brought up. He only orchestrated F1s lowest moment in recent history....
@@Amm17arwith or without the crash massa still would’ve pitted and the fuel line would still have been stuck
@@harry4454Can you also give me the lottery numbers?
@@Amm17ar sounds like people just need to move on and get their priorities straight. Same people who can't get over 2021 too.
Briatore was the only one to win 4 driver's championship for the team, and 3 constructors.
Finally an episode that is not talking at 1000words a minute
IKR!! No bad thing to take a breath between sentences.
Harsh words. If "The Race" wants to be harsh perhaps you should look internally. Perhaps then your videos would be worth watching.
He did wrong, got punished, no need to keep punishing him, especially when Pat Symonds has been working in f1.
The French strategy to bring back a hated Italian is pretty funny
I was at the race in Singapore in 2008. It was an incredible race. I stayed in the Mandarin Hotel.
to be fair , Alpine suddenly got points after his announcement. I love Flavio , he brings more Italianess than Ferrari on the grid and off the grid as well. There is a reason why he won 4 world championships with arguably the 2 best drivers in the last 30 years more or less.
They scored points in the previous 2 races before Flavio came
Only Nelsinho got really punished then. Very sad since he was forced to crash just like some drivers are forced to let the teammate pass.
It’s fascinating how you all are keeping it real with Alpine. Clearly nobody in that circle is “buttering your bread.”
Yet McLaren is very close to winning the constructor's championship this year as a customer team. Something Ron Dennis deemed it impossible.
Bristle and almonds should be banned for life ordering a driver to crash and then Nelson obliges doesn’t go down well for all 3 of them! They should all be banned!
I feel like he is probably the only person out there who can straighten out the half-ass attitude this entire team and management has.
I’m sorry but f1 needs these sinister characters back, Ron Dennis, Bernie Eccleston bring them all back
Damn, has this English channel been so vitriolic against Williams or McLaren when they were at the bottom of the ladder? Or Haas, AlphaTauri or Sauber for that matter?
On engine customers you said:
“Such a move would completely discredit Renault’s F1 team, given running as an engine customer immediately sacrifices some performance potential.”
But what about Red Bull winning three championships in a row with a Honda engine?
Welcome back, Flav
Did anybody else notice that the Andretti won’t tunnel pictures had a very similar airbox to the alpine.
Also interesting that Renault is doing everything that would have it in the best position to sell the team.
Guys get over it, that was years and champions ago. Everyone makes mistakes, learn from them and change.
The goat 🐐 has returned
Yeah how absurd seeking the advice of a guy who delivered 7 World Titles(4 drivers, 3 Constructors) to the team!!!🙄🤦
I'll give $1 for it. Then I'll just drop a Merc engine in and the championship is mine
Andretti: "But I bring Le Cadillac"
FOM: "Shut up, we don´t want you. You would not add anything to the sport."
Alpine: "Any of you got one of them engines for us? We don´t know how to build one"
FOM: "Ah yes, these 10 teams are the absolute pinacle of motorsport, we don´t need anything else."
Maybe he can finally fix alpine 😂😂
The past repeating itself... Briatore managed the team from midfield to constructors champions in the mid nineties... Then was replaced ... Came back to the team when they were backmarkers to win constructors championship in the mid noughties ... Then was replaced ...
Considering they’re trying to get Sainz to drive for them and Briatore’s got a good record with The Michael and Fernando, it’s probably not as ludicrous as people make out.
I have no idea what Flavio is doing back there (or anywhere really). I have a lot of respect for Otmar Szafnauer. He knew how to run a race team, but didn't have the cajones to point the finger at Viry-Châtillon (and Bruno Famin), where the obvious issues lie. The power / engine division is where the axe should have fallen. Not all the aero, performance, strategy peeps that jumped (or were pushed).
Who would Andretti have for a line up if they do buy it?…..interested as a US fan only having Sargent in the line up and has always failing to deliver.
4:50 Christian Horner is on record as having said he wouldn't have set up the engine department if Honda hadn't withdrawn.
*I completely disagree that Andretti should have to buy-out the busted Alpine as they're leaving anyhow. Just leave and make way for a team that actually wants to compete!*
Can't wait to see Renault Cadillac Andretti in 2030
McLaren are a customer team - fighting for wins!
And developing an engine in a different country to the chassis surely has it's problems.
Wouldn't Honda be the most likely supplier? I see some sense here.
As for Flav, maybe he will being some much needed direction.
All the sell to Andretti and Renault hate come from Drive to Survive fans. 0 wheel knowledge
Cyril Abiteboul, Laurent Rossi, Bruno Famin, Esteban Ocon, and now Flavio Briatore ... Renault has the best and nicest people!!
Imagine turning down a works team entry only to have an existing works team downgrade to a customer team. Looking great F1, fantastic image
Andretti/Cadillac: Hey we have a storied racing name, a team based in America and the largest US auto manufacturer as our engine supplier, can we race?
F1: No
Alpine: Hey we want to rehire a criminal and ditch our engine program.
Also F1: Cool.
The race's favorite word "emphatic"
I thought he was banned from fia regulated racing ?!
If Andretti did buy Alpine and take up customer status, I think Honda would be the obvious pick for a customer engine before Caddy arrives.
The mic volume level on this video is terrible
The only thing that can make Renault (Alpine) better again is getting Kimi Raikkonen back on a payment per point deal.
Unpopular opinion: What Briatore did is no worse than Schumacher crashing out his opponent to win the championship
