    Great video. I have a 86 f150 5.0 aod short bed 2 wheel drive. I’ve owned mine since 99. Be careful taking the filler hose off and don’t twist or tare the inner hose. If it’s messed up it’ll take you forever to fill up the tank. By the way you have a low pressure pump in each tank that feeds the tank switching reservoir with the filter in it. Then the high pressure pump pulls gas from there and puts the pressure to the fuel rail.

    Love the old bullnose Ford full-size trucks. Unfortunate that Ford lacked on the paint for those model years in the 80s. The F250 and F350 would be my favorite, although with the 460cid V8 or the 6.9L IDI diesel V8, due to the heavy-duty cooling systems, axles and load rated springs in the rear suspension. My first car to learn on was a 1986 F250 XLT RegularCab LWB 4wd with the 6.9L IDI diesel V8, manual 4-speed transmission, manual transfer case, and manual locking front hubs. We racked up over 270,000 miles on it, even with the body rusting out. My only other bullnose was a 1985 F150 XL RegularCab LWB 4wd with the 4.9L 300 Inline-6, manual 4-speed transmission, manual transfer case, and manual front hubs. We modified it with 1-ton springs front and rear for weight handling as the 300-6 had the torque to pull pretty good.

    Craig, the ignition switch @ the 12 o'clock position on the column can be adjusted fore and aft. Make sure the connecting rod allows the key to go to the ACC position and the radio, wipers, and fan come on. The actuator rod might have a hairline crack in it making starting and running difficult with the key tumbler. I suggest you replace the actuator rod before it breaks. It's made of die-cast metal and is a known failure part. Dorman sells it. The part number is: 83280 There are yt videos available to help you disassemble the column to remove and replace it. The C clip has to be moved forward and the two taper pins must be removed to gain clearance to install the actuator rod.

The heavy 250’s have the full floater, and came with carb’d 5.8, 7.5, or the 6.9 idi. That would be a lariat too, the red badge by the driver’s side back of cab fell out. @@warrendurbin8514it’s been a few years, lol, I was 13 when these ‘86 trucks came out. Ford played with the ranger title with the xlt, and even xlt “explorer”. My father had one, f150 supercab 4x4. That usually meant cruise, tilt, cassette player. No ac, but we had the floor vents and window vents to blast the hell out of you with hot air while cruising 60 mph lol. I don’t honestly remember seeing a “ranger” tag on an ‘86, but I was amazing at seeing a lariat with power windows and locks, and AC. That was crazy luxury back then for a truck up in northern BC Canada. Pretty sure I still have my ‘86 f series brochures, going to go look for them. I used to have a '86, 4 wheel drive, off road special, that had a 5.0 with EFI, and a 5 speed. The truck had every interor option, and was probably the best truck I ever owned. Before that I had both a '74 F150 with the orininal 360 with AC, and a C6, and a 75 F150 explorer with a 390 create motor from pepboys (short block) that I put '66 galaxy GT390 head, and intake along with a mild comp cam, and a Holley 700cfm vacume secondary, with a hurst floor shifted C6 with a ATI trans in a box kit. This was my second favorite truck Sorry I babbled so long there. I want to find a short bed F150 that is early to mid 70s with a FE block and either auto or manual (to be swapped with a car 4, or 5 speed) I'd like to build a 400+ cubic inch FE.

      @GetTheFO ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve got an 86 150 with the 5.0 myself. Very fun truck, just a pain in the ass dealing with the early generation EFI system; there’s all kinds of wacky stuff to deal with in it, and carb converting is just out of the box for the time I have to work on it. If you get one, I highly recommend looking for the I6, not a 302 or 351. It’s much more annoying working in the engine bay on the V8’s and you really don’t gain much over the tractor that is the 4.9L.

    1985 302's had EFI my guy. It was a mid-year change. 300, 351W, and 460 didn't see EFI until 1987-1988.
    Emblem on the B-pillar, seat upholstery, and the velour on the door panels was unique to the 1985-1986 Lariats.
    302 in an F250 generally means it's a "light duty" F250 with a semi-float axle. Heavy duty F250's had 351W and higher, as well as a full float rear axles. Frame thicknesses differed and so did suspension.

      Agreed. It’s the only complaint I have about my rig. I keep kicking around the idea of carb converting mine but it just isn’t worth the risk to me.

    I see all the same work in my future... have a 86 F150 5.0L waiting for me to revive it.. Ironically it's been setting the same length of time. I'm sure it'll run but it was parked due to a water pump and surprise the bolts broke off in the timing cover.

      Ugh… I don’t envy your situation. I’ve got exactly the same truck and will probably be in your shoes soon enough with the broken bolts… I’ve been putting off opening up the engine all this time out of fear hahaha.

    86 don't have roller lifters. In the F series trucks that started in 92 I think. In 1987 the blocks was roller ready.

    that's going to be a flat tappet cam in there, the trucks didn't get the roller cam until '92 in the 302 and '94 in the 351. the block will be a roller block though.

    smarter idea big tires on the front on the back back tires on the front if the too front ones were bad or Oder the same tread pattern as the originals that were taken off

  • @jeffreyrigged
    @jeffreyrigged ปีที่แล้ว

    Im guessing the 302 is cause the overdrive trans. You couldnt get a 351 with aod. they started the e40d in 90 and was the first ones that had overdrive.
