Probably the best $500 purchase I've ever made. My wife drives this thing every day without really any issues or complaints.
$500 to keep the wife from complaining? You’re a genius!
Why are car prices in the US so cheap?
@@kucingsuci this might have been a while ago, you definitely couldn't find a 500$ car that runs in America today
I bought it about a year ago now. Was a really good deal.
@@kucingsuciIt depends what state you live in, I haven’t seen any used Toyota in California for less than $3000 in a long time
A friend of mine had a similar Yaris with 100000 miles. I drove it once. I was impressed with the pep it had for such basic transportation.
The Yaris is a little bit of a VW Beatle. A people's car. An unassuming, reliable friend that will never let you down.
I'm a Toyota guy and find the looks cute. The Yaris looks friendly.
Yep! they had an unassuming charm, yeah i'm base so what? I'm cool...never bought one but drove some and some part of me always want to have one...Fun car, a dying breed...now no toyota gives me that kind of attraction, they are all SUV CVT blob with no emotion, we need a new base, manual, cool toyota at affordable prices...I will pay cash, right now for something like this! The yaris cross kicks ass in europe, bring it in!
Its a cute car always wanted this version of the Yaris.
In my country they call this the 2nd gen Vios and they are the work horse of taxi fleets abd yes very durable cars that can handle fat passengers, floods, bad roads drunks etc.
There are still alot of em running to this day.
I got a mitsubishi g4 instead its also cute in away but less powerfull than the Yares
Cheap and cheerful as they say in Britain. I had one though and it was great.
it's crazy that this 16 year old Yaris can pass the big friggin bottle test, yet most modern cars fail. Yaris sweeps
It's almost 17 now!
My parents had a 2008 Toyota Yaris hatchback with the automatic transmission. That car was supposedly meant for the middle east market as the side mirror's warnings were in Arabic. That car was basically indestructible. We jammed 6 people (albeit, small-built Southeast Asians) and about 6 small luggages into it and drove for nearly 2000kms of various terrain. It never gave us trouble during that trip or in fact any other trips. A testament to this car's reliability
I drove my 2008 Yaris Sedan for about 14 years. Sadly a creep totaled mine last year and it was toast. It made it to 254k miles and would probably have kept going...with replacement parts. It was my first car and it felt like saying goodbye to an old friend when they took it away to the yard.
I bought a used one in 2017 for $2000 with 103,000 miles on it. It was in good condition maybe 7/10. Used it until 2023. I used the it a lot and only did one oil change and service during 2020. Sold it with 200,000 miles to a dealer in 2023 and they bought it for $6500. What a car.
The Toyota Yaris is one of the cars of all time
That's probably the best way to describe it yeah! 😂
🤣
I used to have one of these. It was a 2007 Toyota Yaris, it was red, power windows, 5 speed, ground effects & custom wheels. I bought off the Toyota lot in 2007, owned it for 5 years & had no problems with it!
The automatic transmission is actually much more reliable than the manual transmission.
The Echo was actually the first generation Yaris in the rest of the world. They also got a smaller 1.3 4 cylinder engine in addition to the 1.5 that the North American models got. There was also a Yaris Verso (an MPV/wagon version of the Yaris) with a tall boxy body and a swingout tailgate that was sold in most other countries.
The yaris verso being a 7 seater is wild. Also is super common in Asia
Nice to see a review of the Toyota Yaris Sedan!
In Indonesia, we used to have this generation of Yaris Sedan sold as the Toyota Vios and Limo for private customers and taxi use respectively.
Over in Japan, it was sold as the Toyota Belta.
That soda analogy was gold.
I wonder what’s the water of cars
Corolla's@@celsovera91
@@celsovera91Tesla
Vodka = Lada
That soda comparison at the end, matching each economy car to a different soft drink was so on point. Your magnum opus hands down.
Those are also common here in the Philippines as a Vios
6:20 - It was a major visual upgrade from the Echo's awkward shape and look.
Zach you offer the most comprehensive car reviews on the internet
I see the owner added the "blind all the other drivers" modification. (LED lights in stock reflector housing)
The air knob controls are arranged like on a electric razor
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Zack, The Yaris is overdue for a comeback. Why should the European, Japanese and many other markets enjoy the Yaris in all its variations while we do without? Why? 🤔
I would like to remind you that Pepsi is the choice of a new generation. 🤣
Glad to see a review of this car!
I've driven this one, courtesy of my dad's old ride that I occasionally drove (though it was a 5-door Hatchback variant), and this car felt quite higher compared to my normal driving stance in my '02 Honda Civic.
I think Zach was going to do a new car built today. I do like the Toyota Yaris & even though it's low on tech & features by modern today's standards I think it looks great. Now the thing is, they're not made like they're used to.
@LuisUrbieta Insanely rapid evolving tech, plus cost cutting has led to a decline in build quality globally, unfortunately.
The first gen scion xb same drivetrain I had a 05 bought new for 14800 drove it until 2018 343k miles
We never got the sedan/saloon Yaris here in Britain...the hatchbacks are common here, though.
The hatchback is vastly superior.
This was my first car. Learned to drive stickshift with it. Really nice economy car, withstood everything an inexperienced driver throw to it. In Perú, was available also with a 1.3L
Had a Yaris rental once, was decent
Excellent and awesome review.
Climate controls as they should be. All mechanical and no electric, electronic, or vacuum operated blend doors etc. Simple. The lack of power windows is also a great thing.
This is the answer when someone asks me what car should they buy.
We called it vios here in Indonesia. And there's also a base version of it called limo which we use it as regular taxi fleet up to 2019 when taxi companies swich to mpvs and minivans. This is a very reliable car capable reaching hundreds and hundreds of kilometers without falling apart. This thing has been tested on a very dynamic jakartan street where traffic jam, floods and high temperatures as well as high humidity combines. This thing kept going through strong even after going through all of those tortures. If you guys wanna buy a cheap, reliable, dependable vehicle i highly recommend choosing this thing. It wasn't comfortable but it will last till the day jesus come to save the world.
Yay another Yaris review! I used to own a 2010 Yaris, and now currently own a 2015 one cause I like them that much. Its a fun small nimble car to drive IMO, especially cause of how lightweight it is
Fun fact: in some markets (here in Chile, for example), the Echo was also named Yaris. Pretty popular car over here
These cars are TANKS. Easily a top 3 for the most reliable, resilient cars on the road. I have a 2014 5 speed 5 door and I would buy another one tomorrow.
When I moved to the U.S in 2016, this was the car that picked me up at the airport, mom's green 2009 Yaris. For a while it was our only car and it was great. As a car enthusiast I didn't like how it looked, and didn't like it's bland driving characteristics, but damn it was a good car. Zero mechanical issues, just a leak on the back window. It drove fine, was comfortable, hauled our stuff, and got good fuel mileage. For the average joe that wants to save a buck, its a fantastic option.
I learned driving on Toyota yaris 2007 manual, and I have memories with it, and I would like back to buy one
I like how you describe the radio
It's called the Toyota Vios here in the Philippines. quite a ubiquitous car here too. The model itself from its launch in the mid 2000s, has been the PH top selling automobile due to its affordability and reliability.
My Mom's Friend had one, it was a great little car. They are fun to drive too
I bought a fully loaded 09 Yaris S sedan with 92K miles wholesale for $3700 in 2017. That price is tax/tag/fees/interest included. I still daily drive the car to this day and it has 125K miles. Everything has been maintence, no repairs except the blend door got stuck and the cable poped off but that was really easy to fix. I also replaced the door window belt moldings but that was also easy, and like $30.
New at the dealer you could get the Corolla for less because the Corolla had discounts that brought price lower, plus the Corolla had lower rate factory financing.
My family didn't have that experience, they wanted a Corolla initially but it cost too much so they bought the Yaris.
One of the best and popular cars in Asia. I currently drive the 3rd Gen, regionally named VIOS and I love it.
My sister had a nearly identical yaris. I remember the cupholders, the surprising roominess/space, the center speedo, and that it felt pretty snappy off the line for something with no horsepower at all. These will last foreverrrrr
I love mine. Never underestimate what you can fit inside that thing.
Like these toyotas. Especially in this bodystyle.
A full Toyota product at its best (because the later sedan for the U.S. is a Mazda 2) simple, reliable, durable, quite spacious and (imo) a very well made car for its class. 5 people on my street have one since new and all of them are still running strong to this day. At one point in time, this was even one of the most frequently stolen cars (so they tell me). These are just dead reliable, very easy to maintain, fuel efficient and mostly light on their feet because of the VVT-i engine that really likes aiming for the top of the rev range. I tested one with the 5spd and it was really a blast to drive... but the automatic somehow fared even better in these
The inside is really nice, reminds me of a homely family car, also I'm pretty sure the saftey isn't too bad for a small sedan, don't mind the body style either, clean and simple. Nice car overall
it would be cool if you found a gr yarus to review
This car is known as the Vios in Southeast Asia and it is pretty much a staple in the Southeast Asian auto scene. Toyota even made a taxi spec version of this car which is called the Limo. Toyota released the latest gen Vios in 2022 and it's a shame that car will never make it to the States, it's a pretty great car!
I was looking at a Honda fit when I was last car shopping but it couldn’t sell me because it didn’t have a center arm rest which was a big deal for me lol. So I went with an accord. I would like to get a yaris for doing deliveries in but I wouldn’t feel that safe since majority of cars on the roads are suvs and the Yaris isn’t going to fair that well in a crash with a suv
Crazy that it has back seat room!
Are Yaris and Vios the same thing ?
7:47 1st and 2nd gen Honda Fits came with a 5-speed auto or manual.
The third gen had a 5-speed auto, or 6-speed manual. (Though, not really useful as it's one of those "more gears in between" instead of a taller 6th gear for highway speeds...)
When styling was just simple yet effective nowadays its overstyle overkill, i still have my 2007 Yaris sedan i bought in 2010, I'm even afraid to trade it in, still cruising in it at 340000 km ( dont know what's that in miles) has halped explore my country South Africa one province at a time
This is Toyota Belta in Asia ❤
The Yaris used the same dependable motor until 2017. There is a performance market for the engine - some mod the Yaris to high outout.
Watch the Car Care Nut review of the Yaris. The Fit has better packagìng, the Yaris can go 500,000 miles and then a cheap JDM.motor can get you more. If you care more about saving in a 401K than nice stuff now, get a Yaris and leave the Silverado parked until you need to haul something
It's a shame that it was discontinued the year before it became, IMO, a fairly good looking car. The 2023 hatchback in Europe has a 3 cylinder engine, so it's technically a different power terrain than the Mazda 2 there.
funny soda analogy.
See people claiming to pick these up for 500 or 1000$ in the states, how?
These things are like 4000$ minimum in Aus usually around 6000$
Years ago I dated a girl who drove a Yaris and I swear it was the most neglected car I’ve ever seen but the little Yaris started every single day without complaints
I can remember 2007
It’s crazy a 2007 Toyota Yaris has more rear legroom than a 1999 Toyota Corolla
2007 back when car manufacturers actually still sold base model cars that people could actually afford!!!!!!!!
2:41 - I think GM did this also in the 90s Malibu/Cutlass.
And Mitsubishi with the 2007-2013 Outlander.
Basic transportation. No more, no less.
I haven’t gotten to the part where you say what you think is the best economy car but I strongly disagree agree… the Yaris is the best in my opinion. They don’t break, they are “good enough” in every way.
I’ve put 85k on mine in less then a year with nothing more then oil changes and brakes. Amazing car. Mine has 398,000km and shows no signs of slowing down.
240k miles is probably double the lifespan of pretty much any other car of its segment (except maybe the Fit), but this bad boy is barely broken in and can easily triple that.
Ever driven a manual Dr Pepper? Super fun car and much better acceleration than the 4 speed auto Dr Pepper. Third place ...
most of those were removed from the roads where i live because of the multiple massive recalls in 2011 and the floors rotted very easily, if you live in the rust belt, DONT buy
It's our Vios.
I heard from a toyota mechanic the manual in the Yaris is quite weak and the automatic is more reliable
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I have seen this era of Yaris in 2 door form with 20" mags. And they look sweet.
Almost 240,000 miles says all you need to know about these older simple Japanese cars. They don’t make them like this anymore, unfortunately.
8:33 - That Sentra was the club soda. Cream soda is too kind for that terrible turd. Also, nit-picking, the Yaris and Versa were competitors. Sentra was, in theory, up against the Corolla.
These cars are a dime a dozen here.. it's very reliable, well built but fun is somehow thrown out of the window..
per video, he said the BEST economy car is Honda Fit.
That interior looks like punishment. The info all being in the center of the dash is just a “No.”
You get used to it. My Jeep CJ has the gauges down low in the middle where the climate controls would be in a normal car.
~~ cOoL ~~
Unashamedly basic transportation. It's made to do one thing and it does it.
The Toyota Yaris is a little smaller than the Corolla. Toyota no longer makes the Yaris. This has hard plastics just like the 2007 Corolla
I rented one on a business trip around 2007. I still recall it being one of the worst cars I have ever driven. Probably reliable, though.
If only your rented a Versa instead.
I swear automakers do everything they can to make small cars as much of a penalty box as possible. The design of this would have never gone far in North America.
They need to start building small cars purpose built for the North American market rather than lazily bringing deisgns aimed at other markets. Toyota did this for decades with the Corolla. Idk why they made the Yaris so bad.
These small cars are embarrassing.
I drive a subcompact myself so I know what I'm talking about lol.
Toyota Vios dugong
no it burns oyl
All third world countries uses this as taxi
Sad it’s a automatic
what is that white shit on the bottom of the parking brake
Maybe dog or cat hair!! I find it odd people don't hoover their cars out before handing them over to be filmed! 🤣🤣😳😳
@@markhealey9409 yeah it's strange to me
Definitely dog hair. We have six dogs currently at the house (volunteer for two Shiba rescues) so sometimes they want to go for a ride! It's a car that gets driven every day, not a beauty contest entry. Was luck that my wife had the day off when Zack was able to come out so it was a last minute thing for him to be able to drive it.
We had a yaris come in well over 400k miles, still running well. Original motor and trans, and in good shape considering the road salt used here. Such good cars
