wow, I'm surprised at how precise and detailed your test is. I like youtube for such things. No ad is good enough, the best are videos where people test things. Great job.
Thank you sooooo much for showing the swimming function, I was going to invest in Garmin Swim 2 but I love the aesthetic of this new Venu so much that I'm going for it now. Loved the video!
Looking for my first watch, GPS and just accountability is my purpose for buying a watch to track my workouts and I seriously appreciate your videos so much. Thank you!
Most thorough and detailed review ever. Thanks! I’ve been a Fitbit user 8 years. And the last three died right after swimming, even though they were swim proof. I think this will be my next one!
Same. Fitbit versa 3. Stopped working after around 1 year, replaced with another fitbit versa 3: stopped working after a few months. I think I will get a Samsung 4 now

Des, your channel is one of maybe three I subscribe to for consistent, balanced reviews on wearables with a fitness emphasis. Thanks for all of your hard work!
Des this review was instrumental in the purchase of my first smart watch and thanks to this I got exactly what I was looking for at much less than I was expecting to pay and I had budgeted a lot for this purchase. Thank you for saving me a fortune.
Both Venu reviews were extremely helpful for me deciding on a replacement smart/fitness watch. More than anything I use it for MTB and other outdoor pursuits where music can be dangerous. I have only used a music app once or twice on my current watch, and even though you reviewed the music model you got me thinking about it. I would have just hit the buy button with the most options. You saved me 50 bucks. Thanks.
This video along with the SQ and Venu comparison video was exactly what I need to find the right device for me.. thanks for the great efforts and awesome summaries of the same... Cheers mate!!
Great review and it is yet again so helpfull to see so many shots of just the watch. When you are talking about the functions and scrolling through the menu it is so clear.
Very detailed review. I hope this kind of content continues as viewers need more of this than the ads. I have been torn between the Garmin Venu SQ(coming from a Garmin Vivomove that I am still rocking) and Apple Watch SE Nike edition. Still, undecided for the past week. Major reason is the battery life. Never bought an Apple Watch since most owners complain about the battery life. As for the Garmin Vivomove, it took me almost 10 days before I needed to recharge. This Venu SQ Music edition ticks all the box IMO.
I just bought this watch today. I didn't unlock it's full potential yet, but Garmin Pay, always on display, music controls, and the customizability of the device make it worth every penny. It's simply great. I switched from Sony Smartwatch 3 and I feel like I've been missing out by using such an old smartwatch (which I still love btw, but not having Wear OS etc makes it quite obsolete in every way).
Finally Garmin has a nice square face watch that not only is great on what it does (mainly GPS) but, looks good and has music. I was about to pull the trigger on the Coros Pace 2 but the lack of music and was making me indecisive. Now I can replace my Versa 2 lol. Great review video, exactly was I was looking for in terms of information !! Thanks!
Hi Des thanks so much for the great reviews!. Been dilemma either with Garmin Venu 2 or Garmin Venu SQ for the past few days. Finally ended up with Garmin Venu SQ due to the huge price difference (RM860 vs RM1799 at Malaysia). As in the end of the day SQ would able to serve the main purpose of gps + music and importantly accurate HR, as i would love to run without having to bring any phones. Just downside have to charge this Venu SQ more frequently compared with Venu 2. Please also do reviews on budget friendly Band/Smart Watches from Xiaomi, Honors & Huawei in terms of sport fitness accuracy too.
I have a Garmin instinct. Love it. I came here to see how this iWatch looking watch is. The square/ rectangular shape to me looks trendy and modern for some reason, as well the color display. Good gift for my sister. Extensive and good review!
The Venu SQ outperforms my prior Samsung watch!! For the price, the best value out there!! Definitely recommend if you are an Adroid devotee therefore can't use an Apple watch
I decided to buy this watch once I realized the fitbit versa 3 was having massive issues with its software and that I would have had to pay much more for a fitbit watch that had similar features to this Venu SQ but poorer tech support.
Great review! I have a particular interest in how the pulse ox SP02 works. Will it track SP02 on a continuous basis for a bike ride or walk? Did you find it to be accurate?
Thank you for the review! I'm hesitating between this one and the Vivoactive 4S. Since the 4s is an older model, which one would you recommend? The vivoactive 4 is not an option, I would prefer a small watch. :) Thank you if you can suggest the choice. :)
New Subscriber here and I'm really glad I found this channel. Thank you Desfit for making such detailed reviews that cover all aspects of every device! Can you tell me what watch has been the most accurate for heart rate, gps and distance so far?
This review was instrumental in my getting this watch. I was actually a little disappointed in a previous model, the 645, which had an issue with the HRM resin backing but Garmin Customer Support offered me a discount on any watch and I picked this one.
Thanks for the thorough review @DesFit! I'm debating between the Venu SQ and Versa 2/3. I'm a strength trainer not a runner and the music/GPS doesn't matter to me. It seems like the Venu SQ provides more bang for your buck as a lot of the freemium Versa 2/3 features are readily available for free on the Venu SQ. Do you have any thoughts or things you would call out? Battery life (w/ always on?)? Is the strength training tracker that great (or is Forerunner 245 better)? Appreciate you for this thorough review!
I had Fitbit a versa 3. Terrible experience. It stopped working less than 1 year after purchase so they sent me a new one. The new one totally stopped working after a few months. Client service just game me a 30% reduction to buy a new one. I will never buy fitbit products again in my life.
Des, i can't put into enough words how grateful i am with the level of detail and honesty you do your reviews. This sounds like an excellent watch, but am always dubious of wrist HRM as my Fenix 5 is all over the place with wrist HRM at the speeds i run at, so always defer to chest HRM. Sadly after 2 years of Fenix use the battery life is now demising and takes longer to charge up. I guess that happens with most devises these days? Would you recommend Venu as budget triathlon watch?
Ha! Thanks so much for your support! Yup, the Venu/Venu SQ collect HR on the wrist and they can pair to ANT+ and Bluetooth heart rate straps. The functionality will be slightly different though between the Fenix 5 and the Venu(s) where with the Fenix 5 you can download HR from heart rate straps that can store that data on the strap itself, like the recently released HRM Pro (th-cam.com/video/flYbaBMxRD4/w-d-xo.html). Regarding the heart rate with the fenix 5, what I have found is that in general, lighter and smaller watches tend to get more accurate HR than heavier ones due to the size and weight of the watch. Heavier watches tend to move more on the wrist which can throw off accuracy. Thanks again!
Great video...but question. I got this watch i love it so farbut...one thing I can NOT figure out is just checking the time during a workout w/o ending it. Any tips? Thx!

Thanks for the video! I'm a casual runner (I'm 22 and I've been running for about 5 years), but I've never had a fitness watch before. I did some research and the ones I most identify with are AW 6 / SE and Garmin Venu/Sq. I don't run exclusively, I also do yoga and functional training. However, I am interested in evolving in the race and I liked the “Garmin Coach” feature that you mentioned in another video. What do you recommend? If relevant, I also have an iPhone Best regards from Brazil
Check out Coros Pace 2. Same price, but with 20 days battery life along with a barometric altimeter sensor (to track muscle power during fitness). The data presented is also simpler (less convoluted) than Garmin -- which could be good/bad depending on how much of a deep dive you want to do. But I think for the vast majority, it's more than enough.

@@DesFit great video, love the details! would the same setup work for outdoor cycling as well ie. replace the cycling computer? Thanks!
You won’t need a speed sensor for outdoors activities since the Watch has GPS, however you can utilize the cadence sensor for outdoor riding.
@@DesFit thanks, that helps with the purchase decision! 😉
Sure thing
Thanks for the thorough review. I've been trying to make a Fitbit Versa 2 work as my fitness tracker, but I'm dissatisfied with the interface. A Garmin Venu SQ might be just what I need, but I'll probably check out some of your other reviews just to be sure.
P.S. Once I realized you were a local, I had to subscribe!
This is basically a squarer, colourful (screen), cheaper vivoactive 4
Yup!
Thank you! Could you show how the face watch appears when you are on a run using GPS/maps? I'd like to know if it can give directions.
Omg they hace so many garmin . Really hard to chose the one lol
Just got my Venus SQ Music after watching your review. Its never too late for my first garmin fitness watch, right?
Appreciate your in-depth review!
Sure thing and enjoy your watch!
6 hours in smart watch mode.. that's a step back :D (1.36)
Sorry, 6 days - nearly the same as the vivoactive 4.
@@DesFit Yes, I figured that's what you meant, you just said "6 hours in smart watch mode" :)
Gah! OMG I did. Good catch. Well, I have been awake for 48 hours straight now so maybe that had something to do with that mistake!
When can I buy this?
Should be available now
