    Here is one of my favourites: You are on a slow run, everything is going fine and relaxy, and then somebody you know is coming towards you. There goes the easy pace, you speed up even though you know that "who cares" and you really should know better at this stage. Yes, that's me, but I am going to fix it all at once. Watch me on my next run 😊

  • @kellylowood2450

    Guilty of most of these. Best laugh of the week. Shamed myself so badly watching this. Even today I ran 11km knowing tomorrow is a long run and knew it was a mistake but I carried on thinking 'I'll take it easier tomorrow, I'll be fine'. 🤦‍♀️

  • @toryw13

    I tend to run too fast in places that are crowded. Like all the noise and people around makes me nervous so I speed up without realizing it until I start feeling really tired and sore. Fast tempo songs do the same, they get me excited so I speed up.

    Feeling a tinge and then going to see a doc about it here in the States is way too pricey without good insurance. Impossibly expensive with high deductible, crappy insurance or without insurance at all. Best to just rest up and hope it gets better. 🏃‍♀️

    I skipped rest days before Christmas. NEVER AGAIN. I then got injured. Now I schedule in regular rest days and always go for a walk instead on those days. And have swapped one run for a strength training... And use the running channel’s exercises for that. It’s worked. I just got a personal best half marathon this weekend and have never felt better!

    Ran 50km on Sunday, realised today (3 days later) that the only direct carbs I have had since is 60g of rice, a bagel and 4 slices of bread. Have accidently skipped a breakfast, lunch and dinner as well over those 3 days! Also did an hour of HIIT and a half marathon (Monday and Tuesday). Trying to work out now why I feel so tired, crabby and nearly cried as the prospect of walking home from work today... So yes, should have planned nutrition a little better for before and after!

    This is a pretty good list. The only clear cut obvious one that I'm actually NOT guilty of, is that I pretty much NEVER skip rest days!
    As far as skipping warm ups go, I bring a whole new meaning to the word GUILTY! I skip it like you've never seen skipping before.
    I'm a little bit better with warm downs though. I find that the best warm down after a long run is a very slow walk.
    As for refuelling after runs, does ice cream count?

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not skipping rest days is such a good practice - so very well done to you! I think so many of us skip that warm up, so you are not alone there.

    Running easy on "easy" days was always a challenge for me because I wanted to show a faster pace on Strava. (I know - pure vanity) Now I make sure to label them as such. BTW, what is that area that Manni ran through? Quite beautiful.

    Always enjoy the videos....maybe it’s just me, but part of what’s sets TRC apart from other running channels is the humor. Every other channel I’ve seen is endlessly serious...heck, if I did one id end up too serious as well which is another reason I don’t do it....keep scripting in humor....good content is important but since everything in the world is all at our fingertips, keep your humor and spontaneity....those add an honest uniqueness and are much easer to connect with!
    As always, well done!

      @@runningchannel And we owe it all to TRC. Certainly unexpected. I tell all my friends about the community and what I’ve learned about running, different countries, cultures, etc. I’m not one to assume or judge since each place is so different...yet, in many ways, humans are amazingly similar (not a surprise since I thankfully did not grow up in a cave)....but during a year when no one can travel, I suddenly have friends throughout the world.
      Keep up the great work! And yes, we are all going to need to spring for a TRC shirt to rep this great community you have created!

  • @sarahthompson6297
    @sarahthompson6297 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've stopped taking rest days, but I do consider easy runs after a hard workout or long runs as a "recovery run". I actually experience a whole lot fewer overuse injuries now than when I took rest days - I think my legs like the active recovery better. (I also have ongoing afternoon fatigue issues due to no longer having a thyroid that are lessened when I run in the morning, so I often feel really, really bad later in the day when I don't run - but this might be just a "me" thing.) We're all different, some people do really well not taking a rest day.

    • @kathrynhilder9609
      @kathrynhilder9609 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sarah 😊
      I'm the same! I have fibromyalgia and active recovery is the only option for me. If I stop moving for too long I seize up and the fatigue gets me. So a 5km easy run is my rest day!
      You're so right, some people do much better not taking a "traditional" rest day. 😊

  • @AncoraImparoPiper
    @AncoraImparoPiper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I"ll just do my 10k today. Oh, I feel so good, lets add an extra 5k. I'll rest tomorrow. Tomorrow comes: yesterday felt so great. I want to feel that good again. I do it again today, and tomorrow. Who needs that rest? I don't! Running stronger than ever! Oh, I need that rest now. Just a day will fix that niggle. 8 weeks of rest later: rehab run #1 .... The problem is dopamine addiction.

    Guilty of all of it, back in 2017 I ignored an injury and could not finish a half marathon, diagnosis, fracture on the left femoral hip which took me to the operating room and could not run a fall marathon I had that same year

    Lol I have done a lot of these. 😂😂😂
    I always warm up bar the one time I didn’t I pulled my calf muscle at the end of last year. 8 weeks out was horrible. I never skip a warm up now and always have a walk recovery after. Lesson learnt haha.

    Forgetting sunscreen and forgetting to warm up, cool down. I've felt them during my runs and the next day...sucks. now I am always making sure I'm warmed up and I do a proper cool down. Sunscreen is always a forgotten one though.

    I have picked up a pain in my quad in January but still ran in February and found I can run through the pain. I am nervous about going to get it checked due to Covid and wasting doctors time. On the other hand I don’t know if a rest is all I need.

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear this Martyn. Is there a physio you could chat to online perhaps? Running through pain can sometimes lead to a bigger injury, so it's best to chat with a pro who can give you a diagnosis and exercises for recovery.

    Running on the same surface, I run three to five kilometres in front of my house from one end of the compound to another, the pavement blocks are concrete and very hard but saves me time and I don't have to carry anything and can run hands free, but I run alone and get bored easily but my family plays tennis and I don't.

    Hello The Running Channel!
    I absolutely love all your videos and I learn a lot from them!
    I have a question that I’m not sure about. I always go running on a morning after breakfast (I give time after I’ve eaten) generally I run on a morning because I do late shifts at work. Is it good as part of improving your running, to go on a run different times on different days?
    Thank you for reading 🙂

      Thanks Melissa for watching and it really depends entirely on you and what suits your schedule best. From what you've said late shifts at work prevent you from running later and this may be a blessing in disguise as some people can struggle to sleep properly after exercise in the evening. Others say exercising in the morning sets them up for the day - so this could be going in your favour!
      If you're not seeing the progress you'd like with your training, try mixing it up a bit. Incorporate some speed work (fartleks are a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/KMf1pilGFac/w-d-xo.html), as well as a long run each week.
      Hope this helps and good luck!

    Only time I did a warm up for a run I tore a muscle, never again. Just take the first 1km steady and all is fine. Parkrun back June 5th!

    • @runningchannel

      Eeek how strange, David! Maybe some more gentle warm up exercises to start would suit?
      Yep - can't wait for parkrun to come back! 😊

    What is the best sunscreen to use that won't run into your eyes and feel greasy in the heat?

    • @runningchannel

      Top tip - pop some Vaseline or similar along your eyebrows which acts as a barrier to stop it from dripping down and stinging your eyes! Lots of brands do sport-specific sunscreen which is less likely to budge when you sweat (allegedly)

    2020 is the first year I’ve done strength training - and the first year I’ve improved! Have to grit my teeth and do it - but I’d rather be running. Also sunny day = get out there! That’s me. Really bad at rest days in the nice weather. And sun-burnt nose - guilty.

    Incorporating the warm up in the first km of the run is the habit I am most fond. I run at 9kph for the first 500m before ramping up to my higher pace. Is there a way to keep it?

    I only run on my town's rec trail because that's the only place *to* run lol. Everywhere else is either too traffic-heavy, private property, or under construction (American Midwest = always some road construction). The trail is 99% concrete, too. Give me dirt, dang it!

    I watched the whole video but the first one realy hits home with me I usually use the treadmill so when I run on the ground I find myself running faster than I usually do which makes me get burnt out quicker than what I'm used to. I really need to work on pacing myself

    My city isn’t a safe place to run, so a bad habit would be during the day-going alone, or without telling someone, or without a defensive weapon, and if running at night without lighted gear. Traffic isn’t looking out for you, and even if criminals aren’t targeting you, animals off-leash or wild ones are. I had to force myself to take the time to get my gear fully prepared & my mind to be an independent grownup and make sure I always ran with a buddy and/or informed someone that I should be back by...
    It’s sad to think that in this free country you can’t freely run.
