Really super happy for you Rick as a runner. You did it mate. Wish you the best for all the blissful running ahead of you. I have been following The Running Channel" for the past few years now and I have loved the energy, support and coaching that you provide. Thanks a ton to all of you.
I'm watching this in tears. I'm currently healing from a bike crash which broke 10 bones and month long hospital stay. I currently can't walk. I'm working so hard to just walk so the story of you running again is inspiring.
Have to say, as a runner - this made me emotional, had that lump in my throat. Rick, I’m super proud of you man, pushing on, motivating yourself and being determined to get back out there to run again, to feel that wind in your hair! Good on you mate. You have deserved this :)
Wow has it been 2 years already?!?! Well done on coming back. Was gut wrenching to see you unable to walk and needing to be picked up during your recovery. Welcome back to running!
I'm so glad Rick is back healthy and happy 😊 what a journey. Edit: I already got teary-eyed when the video started but at 7:00 it's just full on crying 😢 😭 I can absolutely understand the emotion.
I almost cried while watching your first attempt to run! I had the same operation 6.5 months ago. I had lost interior cartilage and meniscus of my right knee. I just started my first running trials. And I felt the same like you. After so big pains being able to run again is unbelievably amazing! Keep it up!
@@runningchannel we started very slowly. Physiotherapy first. Then sidesteps with bands, some weights on legs etc. Started with walking. Now I walk 30 minutes, in it I run 1.5 minute 4 times. We'll increase running time every week. Also just started gym with increased intensity. Hope everything will work good. Very best luck on your training!
I'm not crying, you're crying!! Most runners will have had to endure time out due to injury. But, two years, I couldn't imagine it. Well done Rick. Welcome back, old friend! 👏
The emotions and elation totally come acrosd. Everyone watching this channel must have had forced breaks from running. Although I've never been injured as severely or for as long, there's been some long breaks and getting back out there can be terrifying and totally blissful! Humbled by your honesty and hard work, as well as your restraint in repeatedly saying flipping!! Amazing stuff!

@@runningchannel This one has overtaken every TRC video. Other than this though I'd say the Anna vs Rick videos, with a nod some of his best moments being the 2" shorts and the ice bath 🥶🤣
I started watching the Running Channel in 2020, it was so gutting to see Rick go down with this injury! What an inspirational journey to get back to that moment where you can run outdoors, congrats Rick! A lesson not just for running but for life as well!
This was so emotional!! Can’t imagine how scary that must have been. So so happy to see you running again Rick and may I say you’ve never looked fitter!! You really have put in the work. Looking forward to lots more Rick running videos xxxx
This is the best video. I’m not an emotional person and this brought me to happy tears. So proud of Rick’s commitment to healing and getting back to running.
@@runningchannel yeah had massive issues with my back and knee (caused by poor running form). Went from 38 min 10k to not running for nearly a decade until recently. Can't wait to follow Rick's journey!
This actually made me tear up! What a journey!!! I actually can’t believe it’s been 2 years as I remember when it happened, but it just goes to show what we should never take for granted 🙏🏼❤️
Cried such happy tears for you Rick! I already feel hopeless having a cold and not being able to run, I can't imagine going through what you have been going through! So glad to have you back and see more of you again!
Cannot wait for Rick to take part in challenges, and being part of TRC videos again. It may not be at full speed as yet, but we are looking forward for each step taken, and understanding this journey! All support to Rick, and the whole TRC team!

Congratulations, Rick! So happy for you. Been rooting for you since the start. What a great reminder that being able to run is a privilege. We GET to run. Not, we HAVE to run.
Dude I’m so pleased for you. Now get your headphones on so I can hear your dulcet tones ,honesty after such a massive surgery I’m made up to see your recovery
Rick you are a true inspiration. Really felt for you when you got injured. Patients and determination in bucket loads. So pleased to see you back running and you can rwally tell how much it means not just to you but the team around you.
As someone who remembers when you went down and watching this has brought such warmth to my heart. Especially since I am currently working my way back from tearing my Achilles back in July.
I had my money on you all along Rick! I've been through a similar journey due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident years ago, I know the strength it takes to go through what you went through and to achieve what you just did. Stay the course, trust your gut and you'll be back to your best before you know! Happy trails from South Africa!
Welcome back! This accomplishment is in many, many ways more impressive than running a marathon or an ultra marathon, because it's not just training, improving, and moving on. This was working through adversity on a level that most people will never know. Congratulations! Be proud and stay safe!
Congratulations on your return to running Rick! Love your persistence! As someone who's come back from a minor knee injury, I totally agree - strength work is essential! Look forward to seeing you come back go from strength to strength. Stick with it!
That was so emotional 🥲 I’m so so happy for you Rick! You can see how much that 1km meant to you. Big hugs back from everyone here too! Keep up the great work. 💪
Chapeau Rick, very inspirational. Looking forward to seeing your progress, albeit intentionally methodical without rushing. Your first big goal is to try and keep up with Sarah as she currently knocking it out the park ☺️
I actually got quite emotional watching this 🥺 I could totally relate to all the feelings going through Rick’s head during that short run. Amazing milestone mate! Keep going and best of luck with your ongoing recovery 🤞🏼
Couldn’t be happier for you!! I was out for just over a year and am now finishing week 8 after my Achilles injury. Soooo much cross training! 😂 Man this hit right in the feels!
Wow Rick, I am so happy for you. I've been in a similar place, slowly struggling my way back to running (and really living also). Tough journey - and you have done it! Wishing you all the best.
@The Running Channel Thank you. I am getting there. Staying within my limits is a big thing. Resting before runs, doing strength work, eating oat flakes, but also getting back into a group - that's where I am at. I am doing a bit of interval training and a slow long run the weekends. Sticking to the routine helps and listening to my body. I suppose in my case it is about taking myself seriously, setting boundaries but still taking part. And finding the balance.
Way to go Rick! Regardless of pace, this is the best 1 km run I've seen. You've worked so hard and you have been so patient. Keep up the good work and be safe!
I "flippin" ugly cried, and not ashamed to admit it. I'm more than 3 months out of running because of what I thought was just a minor injury. Missed my first marathon because of it. Wondering if I'll ever get the chance to enter another one, but you're a huge inspiration. You've overcome even more so I'm not giving up just yet. Thank you champion!
This really hit me in the feels Rick 😪 after my own recovery from knee cartilage issues and surgery it brought back my feelings of elation getting back to painfree running. You are so right about the importance of strength work, it makes running so much more pleasant. So proud!
I can't imagine what 2 years of surgeries and recovery must have been like mentally and physically. Well done for sticking with it and getting back to running. Well done and don't ever miss a S&C session!
This video made my day!!! I’ve been struggling from an injury for a year & finally found a specialist that wants to help me keep running. You are an inspiration & amazing !
So emotional right now.. I remember watching the initial videos of Rick's injury and surgery. Rick's journey shows he is a fighter and is an inspiration to many grappling with running related injuries. I am glad that he is back and would love to see a series on Rick's progress .. his running journey Run 2.0..
I didn't expect to get a bit emotional, but I did. I felt so much of this, having been through surgery as well after breaking both kneecaps. Every thing that Rick said was so familiar...the wondering if you'd every walk or run again, trying to do basic things for yourself but needing to rely on family, going through PT, doing the strength work...and then finally experiencing that first run, no matter how short it was. And how much it meant and what a blessing it was. So happy for you, Rick!!! Can't wait to see you meet your next goal.

Welcome back to the big outdoors Rick. Well done! Evidently, getting back to the start after all that effort over all that time was going to be an emotional experience. I almost blubbed myself. I'm looking now forward to seeing the video of your first post-op parkrun.
What a moving video! Happy tears for you Rick - you have worked so hard for this moment and I am genuinely so pleased for you! Good luck with every step of your future running journey!🙂
Rick, you are amazing. You brought me almost to tears watching you and sharing your pain. Then again due to your happy smile on the run. keep at it my friend you are an inspiration. I finished up on crutches in January 2008 after stumbling sideways whilst playing Badminton. It took me over 9 months of pain and frustration to get back to playing, all due to my fabulous physio. i know a little bit of what you must have gone especially mentally. It's hard to imagine if you will ever get back. You made it, well done. Take care Mr Inspiration.
@@runningchannel My running is great for my age, 75, I've slowed down quite a bit over the last year but still manage Parkrun every Saturday and a longish run on Mondays, up to 18Km and 5Km run with my son-in-law on Wednesday
Rick, you are awesome!!!! I have been in your shoes and absolutely empathise with you. Prior to 2016 I was a 5 time marathoner. Not fast by any means, but loved getting out and just running. In 2016, I had a disc rupture. I ruptured my L3/4 and severed nerves in leg making me unable to walk. I had a disectomy and a Laminectomy. I was told I would never run again. I was in a wheel chair for a while and unable to walk for a long time. It took me 4 years to be able to get back into it. I started slowly back in 2020 and now I've completed a couple of half marathons. I'm not ready to get back to a marathon, but I'm hoping to work up to accomplishing this in 2023. Good work sir! You are an inspiration to MANY!!!!
Not me sitting in Australia crying … I’m an OG subscriber and have been waiting, daring to hope you’d be back! You are a force of nature Rick !! Yesssss
Many, many times have I thought of you Rick during the past two years and hoped for good news. And now that day - your day - has come! Welcome back to this amazing world‘s trails, and keep on never ever giving up. All the best from 🇨🇭
Fantastic! When a runner can't run, they haven't lost a hobby, they have lost their identity. So pleased you can now get back into it. I'm still 7 or 8 months away from being able to run again, and I'm sure I will be beaming like you when that day comes.
So absolutely chuffed for you, and even though not quite the time off you have had, I had 11 months off running 2020/21 due to a knee injury. Miserable though it was, all the S&C and rehab got me back to marathons, and I’ve done x4 since coming back. So whatever your goals, keep visualising those finish lines fella xxx
Oh my did I cry from start to finish with this, please keep Rick's new running diary a regular thing, its giving me some sort of hope for my running future
@The Running Channel yes, going through it now, badly torn calf, having to start again with heel raises and strength work, you've motivated me to carry on and stick with it. Thanks
Fantastic Rick. Got a bit emotional watching you start off. I didn't run for about 18 months with a hamstring injury. Did couch to marathon last year. Super steady but did it. Good luck with your recovery 🙂
@@runningchannel tbh I loved following a plan and seeing my mileage gradually increase. It took me the whole year and didn't do more than 10% increase. I lost my Dad in March so running gave me something to focus on and I ran in memory of my mum & dad.
I have been watching running channel for a long time and have watched the recovery for rick and this video made me a little emotional. So excited for you to get back to running!
Rick, we watched together as a family at dinner. We are proud of you. Bulgarian squats?! You look more fit than ever. You and the whole team at TRC are the 2023 run-spirations for me this year.
I came across this video after your new update 8 months later. Rick - this made me sob so hard. So so proud of you. Running really is a privilege. Embrace every pain free step you ever take. Keep going!
😭😭😭😭 those first tentative steps running again outside after 2 years... My god, welcome back!!! Not forgetting the strenght and core work from now on, just got myself a coach after starting running one year and half ago... Progress with no pain and no injury, that's the goal! Thank you for your work., TRC!
Ah man, has this video popped up at the right time for me. I have to get my meniscus repaired after what the doctor called "extensive damage" and been told 12 months off the road. I'm just a plodder, but running, aside from family, is the best thing in my life. I can't tell you what I've researched as far as treating meniscus injuries and would've seen hundreds of these on youtube. I've just sat down for breakfast on a warm Sunday morning here in Melbourne Australia and opened youtube and your video was the first alert that popped up. I realise my journey will not be a fraction of what you have gone through but your resilience and determination to get back have given me hope. I'm 52 years old, so I don't have a lot of years left running at a reasonably high level of fitness but I'm damn determined to get everything I can out of what I have left. Thanks Rick, you've made a difference to my life.
I am so pleased that Rick is back running again, even if not fully recovered yet. Definitely my favourite presenter on the channel. I would love if Rick did a marathon mile by mile video. Congratulations Rick! Inspiring.

Yesssss
Congrats, Mate! This was so huge, your relief and joy is so palpable. Take care!
I shed a tear of happiness for you Rick! You have worked so hard, you deserve this! 🥳
Thank you for all of the support Nicole! We are all very proud of him 😁❤️
So glad to see you back with Sarah. You two really are the double act. Can't believe it's been two years !!!! It's great to have you back Rick 👏👏
Way to go Rick! Glad to see you back in action.
Absolute legend for sticking with all that struggle and grinding out for 2 years, it must feel amazing. Keep it up and stay strong!!
I am so pleased you made it back, Rick! You will now be the best-conditioned, most knowledgeable runner out there.
What a comeback, Rick! Bulgarian-Squat-Respect for every step you take.
Oh my did I cry from start to finish with this, please keep Rick's new running diary a regular thing, its giving me some sort of hope for my running future
So good to see you back running Rick, felt pretty emotional just watching that so can only imagine how it felt.
Welcome back.
Fantastic Rick, congratulations on your spirit, determination, and patience during the 2 years. You are an inspiration...
Thank you Delmore 😁 Have you ever had a bad running injury that set you back?
@The Running Channel yes, going through it now, badly torn calf, having to start again with heel raises and strength work, you've motivated me to carry on and stick with it. Thanks
Fantastic Rick. Got a bit emotional watching you start off. I didn't run for about 18 months with a hamstring injury. Did couch to marathon last year. Super steady but did it. Good luck with your recovery 🙂
Congratulations on an amazing recovery Melanie 💪 What helped you stay motivated?
@@runningchannel tbh I loved following a plan and seeing my mileage gradually increase. It took me the whole year and didn't do more than 10% increase. I lost my Dad in March so running gave me something to focus on and I ran in memory of my mum & dad.
I have been watching running channel for a long time and have watched the recovery for rick and this video made me a little emotional. So excited for you to get back to running!
Thank you Jennifer 😁💪 Would you like to see Rick back in challenges down the line?
Rick, we watched together as a family at dinner. We are proud of you. Bulgarian squats?! You look more fit than ever. You and the whole team at TRC are the 2023 run-spirations for me this year.
Well done, Rick.. perseverance and getting the right help is certainly the best way to go. Onwards and upwards!
Onwards and upwards indeed Heather! 🥳
So happy for you, Rick!
Stick to your plan because we want to see more of you running and enjoying every bit of it!🎉
I came across this video after your new update 8 months later. Rick - this made me sob so hard. So so proud of you. Running really is a privilege. Embrace every pain free step you ever take. Keep going!
Mr. Rick! We are all so proud of you! I hope you can feel all the love and support us fans have been sending you
😭😭😭😭 those first tentative steps running again outside after 2 years...
Well done Rick!!! Amazing achievement and such an inspiration for people who thought it couldn’t be done!! 👊🏻
Thank you Chris! It just shows that with motivation and perseverance you can do incredible things! 💪💪
Absolutely delighted to see Rick back. Watched the majority of this (after the bad stuff at the start) with a huge grin on my face
I’m overjoyed seeing this!
GREAT JOB! YOU DID IT, RICK! 💪
🤗Welcome back Rick! Thanks Sarah for being there with him🙏 Best wishes Rick, for an injury and pain free recovery🙏
Well done Rick. The look on your face at the end says it all. So happy for you.
I am so pleased that Rick is back running again, even if not fully recovered yet. Definitely my favourite presenter on the channel. I would love if Rick did a marathon mile by mile video. Congratulations Rick! Inspiring.
Rick, I cried tears of joy watching this. So happy and proud of you.
I'm 5.5 months into healing from my high-tibial osteotomy. You've given me hope that I'll be able to run again. Congrats!
First pain free km out in the open! Wahoo! 👍👍👍Just so happy for you! Remember, slow and steady and wish you all the best!
Thank you Anderson! Running pain free is the main thing 😊 Have you ever had any running related injuries?
Wow I’m so happy for you Rick! I’ve been hoping this video would be coming soon. I was injured for 2 years as well, and I just ran my first half marathon! Injury free!
Being so so happy for a person I never met but that I feel so close to me for the love he share....it's amazing. Really really really happy for you. I hope I can come back to run soon. Happy runs my never met friend!
Well done Rick!
Good to see your happy face again.
I could feel your emotions just by watching this video.
Thanks Damian! 😁
Big thumbs up for Rick. Well done
