@runningchannel that's soooo clear in every video where there is more than one of you! Missed Mo in this one though, he brings the teacher vibes....👓📙📝📊🧑🏾🏫
My thoughts: * 200m intervals is probably optimal for how long you can comfortably hold maximum speed * if you're on a slight hill, get someone to drive you back up * start sprinting before you start timing * taking long breaks seems useful. Either 4-5 intervals with an hour break, or splitting overnight
Initially I thought what a fun challenge, maybe I'll try it myself. Then came the realization of just exactly how long it takes to cheat a 5k, and I thought maybe not! Even so I would love to see a Strava group set up just to see how fast someone can cheat the distance.
Play the violins louder!! 😂😂 If Jess had to eat an interval that didn't count, it only seems fair that Tom has to eat the walk time. 🤷♀️ Great challenge, great efforts by everyone! I had to chuckle at the ambulance parked by Sara.
Tom is such a good sport and so funny! I commented on a challenge video if he has won a challenge yet, and then the next video he had won! I like his “good vibes” tactics.
Surely the 15 whatever minutes for Tom's running time isn't 5k though? It would be that time and then however long it would take him to run that two minutes of walking that would count to the total right?
Totally agree - 5k - 2min walk distance does not equal a 5k run. So whatever distance he walked in that 2 mins, he needs to go out and run to finish it off!
This is actually harder than it sounds. It’s basically a 5K worth of intervals at top speed. These drain you much faster than a long run at a moderate pace.
This is a cool challenge. I think it would be good to do this in a different way also where you each have to do the same distances like say you all have to do 5 x 100m, 5 x 200m, 1 x 1000m… etc to make up 5km but you can do the distances in which ever order you prefer.
..or on the excuse, Cam, he could have forgotten to turn the timer off when driving home....lol.... I have done that before.. you can actually look at your exact walk run times and edit down the time on garmin connect if you make a mistake like that...
Fun video. On a much more serious note, there is currently a TH-cam video out looking at suspicious results returned by one of this channel's presenters. Is there any intention to address this?
100m sprints on a gentle decline with 2-3 minute recovery or until your heart rate dips enough. Take a 30 minute rest between each 10 reps. Keep the legs loose by just walking around for those 30 minutes. Hydrate and fuel just to be safe. Depending on the high and low temps of the day, pick a start time based on that.
Not a fan of cheating your watch (or at all), but since this is in GOOD FUN, to answer Sarah's question: My tactic would be to run 100m intervals on a CRUISE SHIP! The GPS really messes up the pace measurement depending on the direction you're facing. You get like 1min/km at sea, plus you dont have to spend all day on the challenge! That said, whoever came up with this challenge found a great way to motivate folks to run INTERVALS!
The GPS messes up pace measurement depending on the direction you're facing? So if I were to run opposite the Earth's rotation could I get a marginally faster time?
@@moosemafia direction of the boat, not direction of the satellite. Sorry for the confusion. Basically, observe your pace while in a moving vehicle like a bus or train, it will be inaccurate. I use cruise ship instead of car or train because cruise ships have jogging tracks around part of the circumfrence of the boat, so you get strides per minute, some variation in your stride as the boat rocks, and an elevated heart rate. Also I think some runners, such as "it's Matt b" have already noticed this drawback while diligently training on vacation. I am going to try to explain what I mean by marginally faster or slower. The speed of a boat is comparable to a car on a road, let's say 60 km/h (ie 1min/km). I run roughly 10 km/h. So if I run from the aft (back) to forward (front), I'm reading as 70 km/h (1min/km). Finally, I believe GPS satellites are geostationary, meaning they maintain orbit at the same position above the earth even as it rotates, so I don't think readings vary based on whether you are facing west or east. That said, you could find out for sure! All this long-winded ramble is to say if you're on a moving vehicle, like a cruise ship with a jogging track, your GPS watch doesn't know you're in or on a vehicle. Your watch is going to think you're flying along open ocean like Peter the Apostle walking on water, but also faster and longer than Florence Griffith Joyner! I hope that clarifies this cheat a bit!
Since I have the opportunity to cheat to my heart's content, I'll strap the smartwatch onto a dog and let him chase a frisbee. I'll be finished in just 10 minutes! Woof, there it is!
I think I would do it in 200 meter segments where you can be quite quick but have a tolerable number of reps, 25. I don't know the best rest interval, because I think waiting too long would result in sore legs. Maybe half in the evening and half in the morning would be doable.
I feel the way to do this would be to use a track and 400 meters then rest for 5 minutes. Or enlist a friend to drive you back to the top of the hill so you can be more rested.
Am I the only one who's surprised that someone didn't use a pair of Heelys? They said you could cheat. Get running from the top of the hill and just roll until you slow down.
I’m a really good 100-200m sprinter, I can run forever at ~4.6 mph. There really is no in between. 😂 I’d take forever at 100m at a time! 😂 It would be my only hope!
I'm here for the kudos they give each other, "so tactical, so sporty, so fast" ......❤🥰
We love each other really ❤️
@runningchannel that's soooo clear in every video where there is more than one of you! Missed Mo in this one though, he brings the teacher vibes....👓📙📝📊🧑🏾🏫
”Excuse cam” brilliant!
Jess - what a hero running 1km intervals! That women can really shift - absolutely amazing! 👏🏻
Sarah's 50x100m session is a very useful one. Well deserved victory!
I'm curious what her DOMs were like the next day! Also curious how it hit her Garmin stats
SPOILER ALERT!!
That's where I've been going wrong, not enough hooning!

I'd get on a train and record some 5k of walking at insane speed
3:22 Imagine you’re just minding your own business and you see a wild Sarah sprinting down the road.
The editing 😂 bravo
Hahaha thank you!
This is genius! What a way to make running even more interesting!
We agree!!
I laughed all the way through. Great presenting and even better editing. Great job guys. The BAFTAS for editing and comedy are coming!
The Top Gear of running
Love how this was filmed at distance but still feels like you guys were having fun together.
positive vibes for tom always

😂😂😂 this was absolutely hilarious, especially when Jess gave that hypothetical and then shortly after fell victim to that same hypothetical 😭😭

Great video, was this idea based off Kate Carter cheating in her Marathon runs
really enjoy the Challenges - this is good fun 🙌
This channel is AMAZING! When I watch these in the middle of the night it makes me want to put on my shoes and run across the city.
So glad you enjoy our content and it motivates you to run 🥹
My watch occasionally throws a GPS 'wobbly' and gives me a pace that's about twice what it should be. Now if I could control that...
Mine too, but sometimes it goes the other way! 😒
What watch is that?
@@Muhluri Garmin Forerunner 255.

Way to go Sarah!!
I heard Kate Carter won...
Hahaha she is rly good at cheating ye ;D
Surely the 15 whatever minutes for Tom's running time isn't 5k though? It would be that time and then however long it would take him to run that two minutes of walking that would count to the total right?
It all depends what he recorded on his watch

Love these challenges so much!!!!
Haha that was brilliant well done all, I’ll have to try this sometime in the near future haha 😝
Tom, you crack me up.😂😂😂 So much fun!
This was so much fun to watch! I may have to give this a try.
This sounds fun. I'll give this a go soon on a day when its not blowing a gale and pouring with rain like it is today.
Every time one of you guys reveals you're in Richmond Park I point at my screen like the Leonardo DiCaprio meme 🦌
''me legs are a bit achy'' lol
Jess is such a super star 😂 love these challenges ❤
James won the Best Scenery award. 🏆👍
start 10am...5x 0.5km downhill 2% -3% gradient...next morning 8am 5 x 0.5km simples...entertaining vid
Add on some pre workout and you’ll be zooming
Such a good video idea. Really well edited too lol
Being based in London you all missed a trick here. Run fast downhill then bus, tram or train back!
Great video guys 👍🏻
James' idea reminds me of the St Neots half marathon - the last 5km is entirely downhill. I don't believe there's a level foot on in anywhere!
Team Sarah 🥳 But ... very well done Tom!!! 👍👍👍
Funny challenge! Really like it! 👍
this is awesome, what a great idea
That was quite enjoyable to watch

Very entertaining 😂
Meanwhile Andy just pops in and runs a 5k all in one go to win (I’m halfway through so if this actually happens I’ll be lol)
3:46 brilliant!! Hahaha
Yess Sarah! Never in doubt 💪
Thanks guys.
Need the inspiration. 👍
..or on the excuse, Cam, he could have forgotten to turn the timer off when driving home....lol.... I have done that before.. you can actually look at your exact walk run times and edit down the time on garmin connect if you make a mistake like that...
haha bonkers! Love this kind of content
Well done Sarah lots of button pushing
I always wanted to try this!
Interested to see a video on the Norwegian 4x4 workout please.
This looks fun 😂 I’d definitely do plenty of napping between runs.
(Does Tom remind anyone else of The Actor Kevin Eldon?)
I'd have looked for a location where the GPS kept bouncing around...
Haha on who?
Tom deserves extra credit for filming the most to camera whilst running- ‘winner’ Sarah didn’t run / film at all!
Fun video. On a much more serious note, there is currently a TH-cam video out looking at suspicious results returned by one of this channel's presenters. Is there any intention to address this?
I mean, she hasn't presented here in a long time, so I don't think they have to address any of this

Brilliant!
WUP WUP, TEAM SARAH 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Great challenge. My fastest speed (as recorded by my GPS watch) was about 850 km/h - on the way to Fuerteventura 😀
Go Team Tom! 🎉
Positive vibes for Team Tom
Why didn't anyone think to just put a treadmill in the bed of a truck?
Van, jog on the spot, motorway, 120km/hr....
Easy 2 and a half minute 5k 👍🤔🧐🙂😎
I am absolutely going to try this 😃👌🏻

I would probably go with 200m reps. I feel like you'd waste energy/time in the acceleration for each rep if you go with 100m.
I feel the way to do this would be to use a track and 400 meters then rest for 5 minutes. Or enlist a friend to drive you back to the top of the hill so you can be more rested.
I would be able to most likely break the world record due to me running 50x100m in 15 seconds each
That was so smart 😅
If you gonna cheat … easy just take the bus! 😂😂😂
Nice idea!
I once cheated my way to a 5k in only 6 minutes. The trick is to bounce up and down and pump your arm quickly while you drive.
As I recall Barkley tried to portray that it was one effort 😂
How do you NOT think of doing it over 2 days. What even is the point of 24 hours if you don't
👍👍👍 (technology is hard)
Best cheat ever: i ran laps on the top of a moving cruise ship! 13 minute 5k, no trouble!
Team Tom! 👍
I would never run. I would take a car. - Dr. Seuss
Why doesn't Andy ever participate in these silly events? I'll bet he can "hoon" down a hill pretty fast.
👍👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏾👍🏿👍🏿👍🏾👍🏽👍🏼👍🏻👍
Hilarious 🤣
Just read about Carter cheating. Lost a bit of the running channel ngl. Does she still work there? i hope not
I can run 18 second 100m splits. So I MIGHT achieve a 15min 5k. Sprints has to be the best strategy if you can pause as long as you like
My idea would be to pop a threadmill on a speeding truck on the Autobahn and do an easy run on it with GPS on
Am I the only one who's surprised that someone didn't use a pair of Heelys? They said you could cheat. Get running from the top of the hill and just roll until you slow down.
I did a 10k in 22mins 52seconds. However I was running around a ship's funnel as it was leaving dock!!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I cheer for Sarah in all of these challenges.... mostly because I have the biggest crush on her! ❤❤
If you could do a 12 sec 100m x 50, you could get a cheat 10 Minute 5k. That wound be an interesting challenge for an elite athlete.
what watches are presenters using? :D
I’m a really good 100-200m sprinter, I can run forever at ~4.6 mph. There really is no in between. 😂 I’d take forever at 100m at a time! 😂 It would be my only hope!
catch a train, and run from the back carriage to the front... ;) x
