Turned up on Gorton after a 8 day trip to Skye in 2014 and spent our last night there. We had spent many, many nights in Gorton. We met a large group of friends having a "Burns Supper" most of them where English which was brilliant, this was something they did each year picking different bothies. It was histerical listening to them trying to read Burns, The friendship was as it should have been. Laughter was the master, someone brought a guitar and which was great, the kid played a few Blues tunes which was superb. Myself amd my friend are musicians and we generally always take a camping guitar everywhere we go but, after the Skye trip we where looking for a quiet night. When we turned up all dreams of a quiet night were abandoned, we still had a unopened bottle of Malt to demolish. It was one of the most memoral nights to have in a Bothy, one of many. We made friends and met up with a few them on Rhum later that year. My days of doing Mountains and Bothies are over, but the music still continues in pubs and clubs and now sheltered housing where we relate to our generation. x
What a fantastic story Calum, that is just brilliant to hear. Its tails like these that make Bothies a special place where strangers meet and come together under one roof and make it a memorable experience. Loved reading this story so thank you for sharing it. Duror bothy which i also done a video on it probably about 1 hr walk to get to so that might be more reachable for you and i also think you can drive to some others if you needed to keep up your bothy stays. We are blessed with so much beautiful landscapes and scenery in Scotland and thankful we have such a dedicated Mountain Bothy team to allow us to experience all that freedom. Tanks again Calum and wish you well. Steve
Hi Jennifer thanks for the comment, yes it was amazing at that bothy, had to carry the fire wood and some coal but worth it as it would have been a cold night without it. A good path in and very nice scenery indeed. Steve 👍
We learn a lot about each other when we are in the wild and its the simple things. Its great bonding time and to forget about the worlds issues for a while means so much. It was an amazing area i always take it as it is and enjoy time away 👍
Nice to see the bothy spirit, leave it clean and tidy, taking rubbish out. Probably will never do a bothy night again as age advances, done a few, thanks for the video.
Thanks for the comment Robert, good housekeeping costs nothing in a bothy, it was a great walk out to it and great to spend some time there. I would go back there as its a nice place, I hope you get the bothy bug again it would be better than camping i guess and get you back out to one that is an easier walk out to. Glad you have done loads of bothies already good to hear. All the best Steve 👍
Ahh nice one, thank you for the feedback, i do like keeping it real and show to a wide variety of people what our country looks like from many different spots from a wood to a beach to a mountain top. Glad you enjoy it and that great to hear so thank you again. All the best Steve 👍
Hi Steve, I've just listened to the podcast for this so I thought I would look back and watch the adventure for myself. Brilliant mate, loved them both. Thank you for sharing as always, and I hope Charlie's new job went well, all the best, Dave.
Hi Dave thanks again for the kind words, nice to hear from you. Thanks for watching and listening to them both. I might put a poll out to see if its what people like once they watch the video is to listen to the podcast which shines more light on the adventure. Charlie is well and loving the new job thank you. It was a great Bothy that one and a very cosy fire. Steve 👍
Thanks again for the comments. Glad you like the videos and since you have never been here then let me take you on the travels and adventure i go on. I am slowly build the followers and subscribers up which is lovely to see. 👍
I a Scottish lady l whud love to try before l can't walk with illness l have but to scerd to go a lone love your videos stay safe letitia from Scotland
Thank you again Letitia you do get Bothies that are not to far off the beaten track and on occasions there are some you can drive to. I would like to think Bothy associations are pretty good at helping people access bothies. I hope your health improves and you manage to get to stay in one soon. 👍 Steve
@@Campingonthewildsidescotland thank you so much that's very kind yes l whudblove to try it l relly whud maybe l hier a tour guide that taks me and stars yhe night to lol we that's how l can get to one you stay safe
Came across your channel recently, very impressive, like your style, raw and unscripted just the way it should be just like the great outdoors, let the camera tell the story no need to talk all the time, you have a good blend....Not a huge fan of the Bothy, the not knowing what idiot could walk through the door at any moment with his whisky and loud attitude is the turn off for me !! look forward to your next video.
Thank you for the comment, appreciated. Bothies are not for everyone and people can be put off buy others turning up. Its probably part of the experience meeting people from all walks of life and it the anticipation of what to expect, we build a mental picture of what we want people to be like , sometimes its better and sometimes its worse that what we thought. Totally get the concern as do others, this was a more safer option for us at the time and good to do a different kind of video. We did have it all to ourselves which was a bonus. 👍
@@Campingonthewildsidescotland I do agree with your bothy comment to me, I tried to always keep an open mind, but always seemed to be let down by a loud drunken guy or group (just bad timing, I know its not the norm), nothing against alcohol, love a few Magners/Bulmers myself but there is a time and a place for it (the pub) I met my wife on the trail 29 years ago and also later we/I took our daughter along, son was not in the least bit interested, just not with his parents although he now cycle tours all over the UK with his latest girlfriend....Cheers.

Been to Gorton many times. Great Bothy and a nice and easy walk in.
Gorton Bothy is a great one to visit. I was a little bit of a slog due to me carrying in the coal and some kindling but well worth it 👍 Steve
