Maybe Diane's best interview ever. She honored Ben's boundaries and showed him respect while sharing a great story of hope that all suffering similarly, whether famous or not, can relate to. Ben's candidness on a sensitive topic was courageous. Expressing his love and respect for his family is admirable. I wish that I could have been the support his wife was to him in my experience. We live; we learn. Much love to all❤!
Lots of respect and love to Ben for being so open about his alcohol addiction. Yes he is a very famous actor but he is human, a father and has feelings like anyone.
Wow, he looks like his old self again. During his filming of Justice League, his face was different, more bloated. He seems to be doing much better now, good for him.
Desiree Hall not at all. that’s when he started to drink heavily and his marriage was falling apart. Nobody goes from in the best shape of their life for a role and then “puts on some pounds” for the same role, that’s just doesn’t make any sense. He wasn’t healthy in justice league. He was in a bad place in his life
I had an aunt that drank herself to death. It’s absolutely horrible. She lived in Alaska most all of her life. Alcoholism is very rampant up there. Almost 20% of the population has a drinking problem.
This interview reminded me why I loved Ben. Very proud of what he has overcome. Happy to see him in his original form, same like what he used to be, in his best years. Wish him happiness and peace of mind. Love you Ben ❤

Grew up to become an alcoholic myself and caused pain to the ones I love most. I fought the battle and now have 7 1/2 years of sobriety. Good for you, Ben, for coming out and speaking about your struggles. You’re helping more people than you’ll ever know.
I love this guy. Always loved his work. And I felt for him when he stumbled. I've been sober 20 years and it's never an easy thing to maintain. Depression always seems to come hand and hand with addictions. I really want him to succeed.
He learned how to break that chain so no one has to live and grow up remembering any sort of what he remembers and that is a big big hard thing to do talking about it makes it easier though I learned or even physical fitness helps to for me

This was a really good interview. It takes a! lot! of COURAGE! to come forth (and open up) about the struggles and challenges life presents us with and Ben is right when he says he takes "comfort" in knowing this is the "shared reality" of the human experience. This man is so incredible, I have so much respect for him for trying to overcome his demons and generational trauma. My dad himself has battled alcoholism and he quit a few years ago. It was one of the hardest things he has done but my family is so much better now. Sure, he still has major mood swings and is prone to anger on occasion due to alcohol withdrawals - but he is improving. Alcoholism destroys families. If you see someone suffering, please get them the help they need.
Ben looks so healthy and young! Good to see his life is getting back on track. Disappointed that he won't return as Batman but no role is more important than his life.
When he said the word “failure” he almost cried and the camera cut. I can see his pain and sadness as he’s trying to put a strong face. I can imagine the struggle of alcoholism in general but to also have a public career, the pressure in the entertainment industry, while trying to be a parent is a lot and I’m so happy to see he’s fighting so hard for his kids to break this generational curse. He’s so blessed to have people who love him. I understand he didn’t want to talk about his marriage and divorce in detail because he’s felt like he let Jennifer down and after everything she physically went to get him help many times for the sake of their kids, that right there is LOVE. I’m just wishing and praying so hard for anyone going through this and that they receive the help, love and second chance ❤️

I uses to think good looking people like Ben had perfect lives, at least that's the way I use to think. life gets hard for everyone sometimes. I hope the best for him.
I’m a drug addict and I can totally relate to Ben! He’s so right, addiction is one of the most painful things you will ever go thru and the most painful part doesn’t even have anything to do with you! It’s your friends, your family, the people that matter the most who you are hurting day by day, that’s the most painful part of the whole thing! Knowing your hurting them so bad, but you just can’t stop
@Jennifer Burton It's like trying to cut out eating junk food....You have to "clean up your living environment".... you can't bring junk food [ alcoholic beverages ] into the house because you inherently know your LACK OF DISCIPLINE😏 You know you will eat ( drink ) until there is NOTHING left in the cupboard. It's as simple as that. You can't buy the illicit item when you know you STILL LACK self control.
@@SC-uq2jf I would HARDLY compare addiction to a “lack of control” it’s so much more than that. Many more layers deep. I would also never compare alcoholism to “junk food” That’s just me. I have a college degree and multiple years of sobriety. What tf do I know though
@@SC-uq2jf I will agree with you in cleaning up your environment. I just didn’t care for your particular analogy. I WISH it was as easy as giving up sweets or a food that I love. It’s a lifelong battle, morning to night. It’s a mental obsession. It’s years of treatment facilities and various medications. It’s growing up being raped and abused, starved. Years of being in the foster system. Years of abuse with no warmth aside from having a drink. Getting used to numbing yourself because life is so hard. To me, that’s alcoholism. Not simple a matter of “oh I can’t refrain or I have no control” it’s NOT about that, it’s about pain so deep and depression that never ends. That’s what perpetuates the vicious cycle of alcoholism.
@@jenniferburton7044 That was NOT what I meant; Please don't put words in my mouth. I am also college educated...have had to survive sexual assault etc. I know that removing those addictive subtances out of the environment, means you don't have it in your space to use it when you are vulnerable. Period. Full stop.. It's not a long-term solution, however if you don't have the subtances at your disposal, that's just a start. You still have to do the work to maintain sobriety.

Another fantastic interview by Diane S. Love how she stays on task, doesn’t allow any manipulative behavior to bubble up- no pandering - as a result his answers aren’t scripted. Healthy and refreshing. All I kept thinking about was Jennifer G. ... on top of all the struggles - she’s freaking amazing.
Last year summer I was living in a homeless shelter. When Ben Affleck payed a visit to determine if he should extend his generosity for donation to the shelter.I had a great opportunity to meet with him by using sense of humor. His manner, attitude and personality was very respectful and polite. He made me feel gay after giving me a hug for too long( cringey)but I got a hug from Batman.LOL.BLESS UP.
Addiction, depression and pain are something a lot of us can relate to in one way or another. Kudos to you Ben for facing your own personal demons and rising above them. Don’t let the pain from your past consume who you are or can become today. 🙏💖🙏
I hope he gets back with his wife they seem like they can make it especially for their kids. He doesn’t look swollen and back to his old handsome self again always liked him
As the daughter of a (recovering) Alcoholic, I have complete and utter respect for his raw honesty. We're all humans at the end of the day, we're going to make mistakes and probably hurt those closest to us at some stage in our lives. But you can see his WILL and determination to be a better person, man and Father. You got this, Ben.
We all have our demons, it's people like Ben that show us, sometimes with the help of others, they're defeatable. There's a lot of strength in him, and this is very brave of him to do. I hope he's able to forgive himself and find true peace and happiness. He's still my favorite on screen Batman.
Props to Ben Affleck I respect his honesty alot and his humbleness. I believe this dude is truly a good person unlike alot of other people I know who think they are perfect!
For Ben to have this interview, bringing it out in the open is extremely hard step & He anxiously means it, you can watch his anxiety but is very important to own it, admit your addiction, that He is an alcoholic. That's the beginning of staying sober. But its hard because He can't ever touch alcohol regardless of what happens or where he is. I pray God gives him the strength to do it.

He looks so good at his age, just being humble I guess.
IceCreamDream Aw. That was nice. He does. He’s still cute
He’s 47 not 77. He isn’t old.
he didn't for a while. looks much better now. healthier.
He really does.
I have so much respect for him, this must have been very difficult
He was in a bad place in his life
Desiree Hall I did. What’s your point?
Andy Castellanos I was thinking the same.
Being an alcoholic you get that face bloat no matter how fit you get, he doesnt have that anymore. He looks good here.
@@TheFailedmessiah how fit a person is if he is a drink huh? You cant be both
Alcoholic is a terrible word. The reality of Alcoholism is much more terrifying.
I had an aunt that drank herself to death. It’s absolutely horrible. She lived in Alaska most all of her life. Alcoholism is very rampant up there. Almost 20% of the population has a drinking problem.

Wow. I can relate so much to his story. Raised by and around alcoholics. It was just life for me. Had untreated depression. Grew up to become an alcoholic myself and caused pain to the ones I love most. I fought the battle and now have 7 1/2 years of sobriety. Good for you, Ben, for coming out and speaking about your struggles. You’re helping more people than you’ll ever know.
He needs the prayer support. God bless him. We all need it.
I can hear him fighting back tears from emotion.. ♥️💪🏽. Keep fighting the good fight Ben!!
I love this guy. Always loved his work. And I felt for him when he stumbled. I've been sober 20 years and it's never an easy thing to maintain. Depression always seems to come hand and hand with addictions. I really want him to succeed.
Shaun 👍
He learned how to break that chain so no one has to live and grow up remembering any sort of what he remembers and that is a big big hard thing to do talking about it makes it easier though I learned or even physical fitness helps to for me
This was a heartfelt interview; I wish him all the best in the world!
The end of that interview really got to me. I hear and feel his pain.

I love Diane Sawyer! I've been watching her for over twenty years. She's still super beautiful! Very happy she did another interview.
This was a really good interview. It takes a! lot! of COURAGE! to come forth (and open up) about the struggles and challenges life presents us with and Ben is right when he says he takes "comfort" in knowing this is the "shared reality" of the human experience. None of us are as alone as we sometimes feel that we are:-) Everyone is in this together. Really good interview.

A lot of addicts are self-medicating. It sounds like your dad could benefit from looking into that.
All creds to Ben for opening about his addiction but can we talk about Diane Sawyer for a second? This woman is 74. Holyyy
His heart was so hurt , yes 74 shes amazing
Damn, son! She's holding it together like a champ.
Who is she ????the one in interviewing?¿

Richard Kelbie 👏 you got this
Ben looks so healthy and young! Good to see his life is getting back on track. Disappointed that he won't return as Batman but no role is more important than his life.
Alex D'souza Exactly. His health is more important than anything.
@J cvb Whatever he's doing is great cause he looked so out of shape and bloated last year. He looks fit now.
You can do it, Ben!
He should just move on. I wish him out of the hollyweird delusion and a more normal life. He is being pathetic and needs to get a grip.
Ben is a great role model as he is himself in everything he does, he's the best of Hollywood had offered us and i pray he stays humble as he is.
I don’t have any more room for failure. Wao!! God got you Ben. Just keep looking.

I uses to think good looking people like Ben had perfect lives, at least that's the way I use to think. life gets hard for everyone sometimes. I hope the best for him.
They are celebrities but they are also just human beings. We all have ups and downs. It's life
@J cvb Oh I didn't know this video is about Weinstein. It seems you know the real story more than anyone else.
Perfection is a complete stereotyped fantasy, everything that exists has its pros and cons
Pain is losing a child to drugs. In this day in age, anyone that gets involved in doing drugs knows what they're doing. You play, you pay.
@@marla591 I’m sorry if you have lost your child to drugs.. that must be very painful
"I can drink like a normal person. Just wine with dinner" - every alcoholic ever
It’s never just one
I Love the Affleck Brothers

For Ben to have this interview, bringing it out in the open is extremely hard step & He anxiously means it, you can watch his anxiety but is very important to own it, admit your addiction, that He is an alcoholic.
