I’m so amaze that your are fluent with the dialect,better than your girlfriend,I’m a retired 66 year old Filipino from Southern California ,they did a study of Filipino and Mexican Americans and found out that 9 out of 10 Second generation Mexicans are bilingual compared to 1.5 out 10 Filipino second generation are bilingual,it’s sad,I think it’s are fault that we didn’t try hard enough to teach our children

True. Most children here are even shameful of their Filipino identity, our fault for not having to show them that we can be proud of as a people.
I'm lucky. When we immigrated from Camiguin to California in late late '80s, my dad made us speak Bisaya.
