  • Metal Detecting: The History Digger visits historic New Bern, NC where he visits several historical sites including the birthplace of Pepsi Cola, Tryon Governor's Palace and a historic home visited by President Washington. He metal detects with his Nokta Makro Simplex and the Teknetics Tek-point pinpointer to rediscover a mystery item involving a former New Bern mayor and confederate army officer. Rob also visits Union Point Park where he finds some coins and shares metal detecting tips involving how to dig a plug, the hori hori digging knife. Who knows, there might even be a "pop-quiz" and some fun stories along the way. If you dig history, watch, like and subscribe!

Thanks for sharing this video with me today! It was so wonderful to meet you in Snow Hill North Carolina! You and your companion were extremely kind and informative and I loved seeing the things that you dug up from my employers yard. Good luck to you both in the future and I hope one day you find the treasure of a lifetime! When you chose eastern North Carolina you chose a really beautiful and great Place full of history!

I used to live in New Bern. Great area for history and metal detecting. Found a lot of great civil war relics in the woods and fields around the New Bern area. I now live in Tampa and really miss eastern N.C. metal detecting.

Wayne it is such a beautiful area...can understand why you miss it. I was planning on returning there for a June wedding but sadly it has been cancelled due to the pandemic. Bummer on several accounts. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.

My family has been in the area or New Bern (inc. 1710) since 1700. Beaufort Co. I can trace 5 generations in Cedar Grove Cemetery. My father is buried in Greenlawn cemetery. Next to my mother's parents.

A couple of years later, I just stumbled on to your channel.
We don't live very far from New Bern. Just next to the palace is the Stingray Cafe and fresh fish shop. We've found that they have the best fish and chips along the outerbanks. They use the fresh fish from the adjoined shop..
So when you need a meal it's the place. Also you won't have to empty your finds pouch to pay for it.
