A musical journey with...KEITH EMERSON & RICK WAKEMAN

- Two of my favourite keyboards and Piano players of all times are Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman.
They have a very different musical approach and personal skills and invented their own style, both interesting, unusual and original. Sadly Emerson is no longer with us(we miss you!) and Wakeman is still on the road along with his keyboards and his grumpy behavior(he says...).
I made my personal homage just to some of their worldwide famous music mixed in a relatively short medley.
With a little help from a pre-recorded track I go back and forth in their compositions.
Just an appetizer of the large repertoire of these two talented artists but I'm quite sure you'll enjoy!

Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman should have made albums together would have been the best
Rick Wakeman made a comment about playing with Keith Emerson during his tribute. Apparently they were friends and entertained the idea. If I remember correctly the managers or record companies were very much against it. Two powerhouse masters of the keyboard together on an album.......wow!

You're very good. I was fortunate enough to see both of them live, Wakeman with Yes in 1976 and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer in 1977.

I saw both them too but later... Wakeman(w Yes and w his own band) in the eighties and ELP in 1997 in Rome, but not comparable to the seventies, they were amazing I guess.

Bellissimo medley dei due Colossi del prog. Ascoltare e vedere i movimenti sui tasti che in passato i due miti hanno eseguito in tante occasioni, è semplicemente (almeno per me) emozionante. Piccoli pezzi di brani che mi fanno ringiovanire in un attimo.

Sono inarrivabili perché oltre alle note c'è quel quid che non è riproducibile.
Le dico che il lavoro più grande è stato quello di fare la base, che non volevo fosse uguale all'originale ma più "orchestrale", un lavorone...😅

Grazie Marco! Se non ricordo male il tuo idolo è Jon Lord, piace tantissimo anche a me e insieme agli altri due è un grande del rock.
Scoprii gli ELP scambiando a malincuore un LP dei Deep con il primo degli ELP, gruppo che non conoscevo e quindi non ero tanto convinto della scambio...e poi boom 💥 però Lord è fenomenale e come gli altri due, difficilmente riproducibile, soprattutto nei soli, che a mio parere sono anche difficili da trascrivere...

Yes made much of my youth. After, I bought all of Wakeman's solo albums, anyone remember the Winter Olympics one? But those words referring to King Arthur were so shocking on Wakeman's solo album, I had ordered it from a village in County Meath, Ireland. Keith was another favourite, his classical composition was great. I met Wakeman many years later in a theatre in Dublin after his raconteur show & mustered some words of thanks for all the gift of Yes. He looked at me as if I had spoken ill of the dead or something.

Grazie Giordano, anch'io sono Emersoniano fino all'osso. Però lo scopo del video era quello più ampio di omaggiare i due più grandi. Però Emerson è inarrivabile sia tecnicamente che compositivamente, inoltre, a differenza di Wakeman, è stato anche uno sperimentatore (Moog etc etc) e a suo modo, anche un divulgatore per i suoi arrangiamenti dei brani classici, insuperabili ( la patetica con i Nice, tanto per cominciare)

un confronto ha poco senso, sono due lati della stessa medaglia, tecnicamente e dal punto di vista della composizione hanno sfumature diverse, spesso Emerson ha inserito brani altrui nelle sue composizioni non dimentichiamolo, mentre Wakeman no. Al pianoforte hanno stili diversi ma si equivalgono, l uso dei synth ha visto Emerson precursore, sulle parti orchestrali entrambi si sono affidati a direttori d orchestra negli album, Emerson piu originale ed innovativo , Wakeman melodia e tecnica che si avvitano insieme verso l' alto..
Onore a due grandissimi.

Thank you for doing this video. Kudo's bud....as good as Rick Wakeman was ( and I think his organ in Close to the Edge was brilliant ) had more strict classical influences. While obviously Keith had those influences, his brilliance musically and phenomenal keyboard abilities at infusing jazz, blues and whatever took him to a higher place.
Both great talents in the Prog world....and your a great player as well....

@@doctorbruno I was a young teen when I saw ELP at the Hollywood Bowl when they first came to America. That night changed my life and direction as a keyboard player and composer. I went on to have some success in the music industry where my band had an endorsement with Moog. With that I met and heard a lot of artists, including Rick Wakeman and Yes. It was an incredible time for creativity and music.
I miss that.

That's true! Lord is one of the greatest. Not easy to find something to play instrumental only, but I'll think about it.
