Review by SouthSideoftheSky SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Symphonic Team 4 stars Wakeman the magician The live performance presented here is admittedly not one of perfection, but it is, however, a presentation of perfect band chemistry, great passion for music and immense instrumental skills of all involved. These things count for more than mechanical perfection in my book. The picture quality is great, the sound quality is great, the set list is fantastic, the band brilliant and the performance is simply amazing! Both the audience and the band are having a great time here and that feeling spreads to the viewer/listener at home. With many timeless classics performed, often in new and interesting arrangements, this live concert video should appeal both to beginners and to hard core fans. Rick's very best albums are all represented with cuts from The Six Wives Of Henry VIII, The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur, No Earthly Connection and Out There all making the set list. Plus, an excellent, condensed, new version of Journey To the Centre Of The Earth, that easily surpasses its original recording in my opinion! The sometimes annoying narration in the original version is here removed and more space is left for instrumental workouts. Yes is also represented with an exhilarating version of Starship Trooper, incorporating snippets of Heart Of The Sunrise! The vocalist here is none other than Ashley Holt, the original vocalist on such albums as Journey To Centre Of The Earth, King Arthur and No Earthly Connection and many others. He has still got an excellent set of pipes! The rest of the band are amazing and all members do extended solos. Rick is a very 'democratic' leader of the band here and he does not need to be at the centre of attention all the time. This creates a strong band feeling and the musical atmosphere benefits greatly from this. The bass guitar solos from Lee Pomeroy are especielly brilliant and new drummer Ashley Soan does a great performance despite being recruited only a short time before this concert. The guitarist is hardly a Steve Howe, but there are a few passages when he truly shines. The imperfections I mentioned at the start of this review occurs mainly when Rick's Moog synthesiser runs amok and goes out of tune here and there. There are also a few minor mistakes in the performance, most notably by the old guys, namely Rick himself and vocalist Ashley Holt. Holt did not have the chance to rehearse the material on which he was not the original vocalist. But these small mistakes do no ruin my overall impression of the show as a vey good one. For the most part they get it right completely and all band members have their moments of utter brilliance. Despite not being perfect, Made In Cuba is still the best Rick Wakeman concert film I have (and as far as I know I have them all)! If all you know from Rick Wakeman is his early albums, this DVD will surprise you as it rocks harder than you probably can imagine! It brings together some of Rick's very best songs and presents them in a new fresh way, the conclusion can only be that this DVD is both an excellent place to start if you want to discover Wakeman's solo career and an essential purchase for his most devoted fans. However, as I have mentioned there are some mistakes and technical problems. Therefore, I cannot give the highest rating. There is a live album called Out Of The Blue that is even better than this as it doesn't suffer from such imperfections. As a bonus, there is an insightful interview with Rick that adds great value as well with very interesting and sympathetic views on the relation between politics and music among other things. Highly recommended!

Just _mind BLOWN!_ Thank You and may The LORD Bless!!!
Totally. This is one of the greatest performances of any band ever. Everything just came together right and produced something really special. Been into yes/rick for forty years and this still blew my mind.
@@steeleye2112 ~ lsn't it though? Just 4 ...well 5 including the ''helper'' keyboardist good musicians can do all Rick's orchestral pieces so slick, and tightly like that? Seen Rick with Yes (ABWH which is YES), but never on his own. l dont think l really need to after watching this! lts like we're there!
@@theresa42213 Saw the ABWH concert as well, that was an incredible concert as well.
I've absolutely lost count of how many times I have enjoyed this concert...background, to watch every bit...over and over. It's just stunning. This and the English concert with Brian May...over and over.
Rick play in Cuba...wow!
What an amazing singer... wow
The magic is in the vocals but Mr. Wakeman, is an inspiration!
England reigned over the the decades thru Rock. This concert is extraordinary. Thank you for the post. Tremendous and which reminds me of emerson lake and palmer.
One of the absolutely, best performances in the history of music. Every note, gesture and look is filled with joy. Utterly spellbinding.
Absolutely extraordinary

I'm on my 80th. This concert is beyond superb. Words are not enough.
Man! What a band! Everybody was super talented. Before I was a little bit negative about the singer but on 3rd and 4th listening I found him absolutely amazing! The bass, Guitar and Rick! Fabulous!
Grew on ya like a fungus, huh? (kidding)
yes Ashley is a god of a singer!
You forgot the drummer!
23:55 An excited member of the crowd shouting "THANK YOU!!!" to the band with a cracked voice. That guy just had the most exciting experience of his life
I bet he was, this was the first time that the Cuban people had the opportunity to see a "Western Rock" Act. It was on April 2005, 10,000 people. Then in May, 2005 they had Audioslave, 70,000 people, in July of the same year Air Supply, 175,000 people (under hurricane threat). In 2015, The Dead Daisies played there for 6,000 people an then in 2016 The Rolling Stones played for 700.000 fans there.... this people is hungry for rock music
@@lermadibretschneiderpublisher Things are not easy there. These concerts sure helps bringing joy to people

A segunda música que mais ouvi na vida; logo atrás da 9ª sinfonia!

Ótimo muito bom 👍 show maravilhoso
Desde meus quinze (15) anos; hoje com sessenta e cinco anos, acompanho o músico, Rick Wakeman. Perdi a oportunidade de assistir, quando da sua vinda a capital de Minas. Espetáculo musical! 🎼
Rick Wakeman and his music is proof that the Lord loves us!
His music is a proof you don't need a God.
@@jesusofnazareth6254 ~ Hmmm .... l believe the opposite. lf the spirit doesnt come through in this music then all l can do is PRAY for you! But uh ... your name says a lot. Hope you're young and things will change for you. lf GOD wants you ....You'll hear HIM. You've got a choice either way though! Anyway ...enjoy the tunes!
Woolenschrank ~ l TOTALLY agree! Rick has been blessed with a great gift from The LORD! His life is a testament to those blessings, and through him God touches us! HOW can people not feel a spiritual presence when they hear THIS? You got me! May the Lord bless you! You aught to listen to this again! lts one of the best shows l've seen Rick do! Sir Wakeman, Thank you SO MUCH for your great music and concerts in Kiev!
I wish I could have seen Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson together. The best of the best!!!
add Alan Parsons (as writer, engineer, producer, etc., etc. etc.) and I would have spent a small fortune.
