It's nice to see a project happen amongst real life activities. Acknowledges how long it takes to home maintenance and projects done when you have kids, jobs and real life to take care of.
an idea for the boys room! maybe put a floating shelf in between both beds so it kind of connects them? that way they can have nightstands and you can even slide some baskets under there for extra storage or maybe even add a chair under there to use as another desk! and that way they can both still use the drawers fully. love how the rooms coming along
I'd recommend keeping a vacuum wide swath away from the walls for each bed. It forces them to keep the floor clean against the wall side and it's much, much easier to make the bed and change the sheets.
If you do go with the Ikea storage unit you can protect the bed drawers from damage by using a couple of furniture foam/felt adhesive pads (the kind that go under table legs) along the sides of the storage unit. That way the bed drawers won't bang into the Ikea unit.
For no natural light area, our hallway, we used blush pink paint. It looks rather white with just tint of color. It is light and fresh. And I typically am not fan of pink! Now my neighbors are doing it too. Now I'm tinting rest of the house in baby blue, mint green, etc. Very pale and lovely.
Looks great. Couple of thoughts. I wouldn't put a door/curtain on the boys closet. Just easier for them to hide stuff. Looks great as is. Especially if you have more cubes that you can do on the shelf across the top. Maybe take the ones from Ryan's room and order him smaller?
Perhaps you should consider either floating shelves or find some cool brackets and wood to use vs the cube storage. That way you can open up the drawers under their beds no problem and still have it be open, use the smaller cube storage bins in them or open displays, as well as doubling as side tables for the boys too!
Personally, I love the home makeover vids. We are doing some home improvements right now as well. And judging from the crowds in our local Lowe’s store this would very relevant as everyone seems to have decided now is the right time! Keep ‘em coming! 😀
I have a suggestion for the boys room with the twin beds. I'd move the beds in more (towards the window) and put a small night stand or table with a bottom shelf on the wall side of the beds. That way it will not interfere with the drawers and you would have space for a couple of small lamps. Just an idea :) You guys have made a lot of improvements. Oh the magic of paint :)
I am loving the house updates. Our home is 100 years old and was updated somewhat in early 2000s. My husband and I are updating things room by room to make it our dream home. Up next is our daughters' room.
Nice. Ikea is my go to for beds & space saving &/or multi use furniture. You could add drawer stops at the inside back of the drawers at the head of the bed so they don't open all the way so they don't hit a Kallax unit under the window. You can also put a top on a Kallax unit that's custom shaped to be wider than the unit but not as deep with rounded front corners to serve as night stands. Small adjustable wall mounted lights above the beds would be nice also.
We had a similar closet to your boys in our last house and those sets of plastic drawers that work as dressers (the kind you might buy for a college dorm) fit perfectly turned sideways in the ends for extra clothes and toy storage, plus since they are easy to get into without digging all the way back.
I'm loving the home project videos! I am in the same process of slowly redoing the house piece by piece. My next project is to paint the risers on the stairs white.
Hi Christine, I’m rewatching this video in December 2020 and the basement redo playlist. You inspired me to replace my old metal spring mattress with a foam, shrink wrapped mattress from Amazon. Have had it for almost 2 months and LOVE IT! It is soooo comfy. Thank you. Love your channel and your family. Merry Christmas xo
Loving the house updates! Captains beds are the way to go for boys. There is less stuff cumulated under the bed and it just looks neater. Also, like you said, helps when putting their clothes away. Much love to you and your family ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We did our boys room in may we have never had nice beds we always just had a metal bunk bed frame and they fall apart after a while well when we did the boys room we bought them a twin over full bunk bed in solid wood with a wood staircase that has drawers in all the stairs which is 4 deep drawers and 2 huge under bed drawers and it has a book shelf under the staircase it took us 2 days to put it together and it wasn't cheap it was $1000 but it will last for many many years and when my youngest leaves we can take the top bunk of and it will be just a full for my oldest he is autistic and will live with me forever.
I love to see all the changes you are making. Home remodels always seem to take forever but your house will work so much better for you when things are completed.
I used a twin flat sheet and a tension rod for a curtain for my closet .put the rod through the top hemmed area. I picked a pretty pattern to match. It looked nice and very inexpensive.
Have you thought about framing out your bathroom mirror? We did that and it makes a really custom look. Your can buy frame kits a lot of places, online and at Home Depot and in a lot of finishes. They peel and stick to the current mirror.
Aww, we had Seasalt in our last home's bathrooms. My daughter actually picked it for her bedroom when we were in the last phase of building and we loved it so much we added it to all of the bathrooms. ❤ In this house, we went with Misty (also by Sherwin Williams). They're both great colors.
I love the home updates. It's something I'm trying to work on, too, so it's super relevant to me right now, and I bet to a lot of other people since we are or have been, spending more time at home!
I love seeing how others decorate, and I love your enthusiasm! You always make my day a little better, no matter what you’re doing! The beds are perfect and the room is looking great! What a group of lucky boys! 😃
Definitely loving the house updates. The boy's bedroom is coming right along. This week we are in the midst of a few things here too. Reorganized our large pantry and laundry room so that it takes advantage of the areas better. Ordered a new refrigerator this morning. Should be here in about a week. For some reason we normally have an appliance stop working right around the holidays. The fridge may be the oldest and with the pandemic thought the extra fridge would come in handy and be proactive. They are hard to get right now and don't want to take a chance. Looking forward to you next remodel. Have a wonderful week.
If you split the difference between their beds, that's less than half an inch they wouldn't be able to open the drawer the whole way. I would put the standard cube organizer there anyway. 1/2 an inch off a drawer from full open isn't much. And how often do you open your drawers the whole way? Stick socks and underwear in those drawers, something easy to grab.
I love this update. I am doing similar projects in my home, mostly around organization and painting, so it’s nice to see your ideas and know others are having the same struggles 😬 It’s a lot of work but worth it when you see the progress and finished work. 🤗
The rooms are looking really good I like the color that you picked for the bedrooms I love the beds and I think you could get that 8 cube storage unit and just put clothes in there that they don’t need to get into every day like sweaters hats gloves and bathing suits and then put the storage unit in between the two beds
I love watching makeovers! I get great ideas!! I like the open closet concept.. I heard you say cover the closet with curtain- I never close my sliding closet doors ( I don't know what kind of phobia that is- lol) I love the color you're using on the rooms!! Can't wait for your next reveal
When you put the storage cabinet between the beds, put a longer piece over the top that extends left and right so they have side tables they can reach from their beds.
For the closet doors. I wouldn't make a bigger opening. I would instead install a barn door track on the inside with sliding doors since there is so much room. I will look up at video I saw on another channel. She made her doors but This type of construction would work on the interior of the closet.
Love the boys room makeover.Me and my 2 sisters painted my mom apt.I think I was like 12.My sister was 14 and 11.You could see every roller mark.We tried.lol
Christine why dont you get Dave to knock up a floating cube storage that you can hang off the wall with anchor hooks for strength.. this way you wont have anything interfering with the bed drawers! You could even stain it to match the boys beds.
Looking at the space between the boys beds, under the window, it seems you could have a long floating shelf that hangs slightly above the top of the bed drawers but anything with sides will make the first two drawers nearest the windows pretty useless or unpleasant to go into. The floating shelf would only come out a foot or so and let them reach in to pull out the drawer without much effort. Would still put least used stuff there. You could put a second shelf right at the base of the window trim if you wanted more. Making it as wide as the window would keep access easy. Making it less wide would make access even easier. The space for your sons desk could be pretty neat if you use more floating shelves and a fold down desk option or one of those that is on the wall with doors and opens up and folds down so that it looks like a hung cabinet until you open it. Are you into DIY? He could have a chair on rollers that sits in the corner when its up. The underside of the desk could be any kind of art if it is a normal drop down desk. Bet it will look great whatever you do.
That's awesome. I did loft beds in 2 kids rooms. I found similar ones on Zulily, Amazon and Wayfair. I ended up actually finding a good price on Zulily for one set. :) Looks Awesome!!
We have drawers under out bed too and to combat the issue with side tables, we just keep not every day stuff in the drawers that are hard to get to. Like sheets, out of season stuff. I don't think an inch too small is terrible!!
Have you looked into the build your own options with Ikea? Like their entry tables or tv stands that coming in cube configurations that you can just pick and choose what would work for the space you have?
When you are just needing a very small amount of extra space, consider removing the trim behind both of the beds. Save it, as you can put it back if you change your mind. You will not be able to tell the trim isn’t there.
Looks great and I think it's terrific that the boys not only chose their beds, but also helped build them.
I enjoy the home project updates.
It's nice to see a project happen amongst real life activities. Acknowledges how long it takes to home maintenance and projects done when you have kids, jobs and real life to take care of.
love the fact that the kids are a part of building the bed frame. You and Dave teach your kids such amazing valueable skills! best parents ever

ebgbjo2025 yay! hope it works out (:
Genius!

That writing on the wall is so precious. I personally wouldn't paint over it.
The boys look so happy with their new bed.

My daughter wrote her name all over the inside of her closet when she was little. I am thankful it was in a closet but still a sweet little find.
I do these projects at my daughter’s house, often! I paint and organize. She cooks. We learn from each other.

That way you can open up the drawers under their beds no problem and still have it be open, use the smaller cube storage bins in them or open displays, as well as doubling as side tables for the boys too!
For the boys room 8-cube storage unit you could add feet to the bottom to elevate it. That way the drawers could still open under the beds.
It’s satisfying seeing the before and after your house projects 💛

You can put tubs behind the drawers on the captain's bed for off season cloths storage too.
I love to see all the changes you are making. Home remodels always seem to take forever but your house will work so much better for you when things are completed.
I love sea salt. I have it in my bathroom too. It’s a pretty green blue.
I used a twin flat sheet and a tension rod for a curtain for my closet .put the rod through the top hemmed area. I picked a pretty pattern to match. It looked nice and very inexpensive.
I love Andrew and Tyler's new bedroom ,how about a barn door for the closet?

Good morning Christine!!! You guys did a great job just goes to show you can do this on a budget and make it look great!!!!!
I have the smaller cubbies and Walmart has the smaller inserts. They are individual. I love mine.
This is amazing. What a great way to save space and make more room!
Okay, who else was waiting for the Stepbrothers clip “So much more room for activities!” ? 😄
A barn door for your boys closet door would look real good.
Love the beds. My boys shared a room too. They were 15-months apart. One thought... You will be surprised how fast they will grow.
I like the captain beds they are nice. Can't wait to see how it all comes together. Have a great weekend.
I love seeing how others decorate, and I love your enthusiasm! You always make my day a little better, no matter what you’re doing! The beds are perfect and the room is looking great! What a group of lucky boys! 😃
The interior update is looking good. The colors are blending together so well with the furniture. Everything looks fresh and new.
I love you such SMART shopper I am learning from you a Thank you 👍👍🥰🥰

I stumbled upon your channel from one of your meal challenges and I’m hooked! I’ve been binging your videos all day.

I was thinking the same thing!
I was too
Put floating shelves for bedside tables so not to interfer with the drawers below would extend out the cube orginizer like she wants

Looks great. Love all the updates and I can't wait to see what you do with your office. See ya next time.
Dave "up against the white door can you see how big my biceps are?" Lool too funny 😅
Get the wall mount shoe storage cabinet from ikea. Can put between the beds and will give them a nightstand and solve the shoe storage problem.
Having raised 2 boys, I totally believe it!
LOVE the boy's beds!
Tin foil in the paint tray! Why am I 42 and just now learning this?
Why am I almost 60 and just now learning this??? lol
I buy paint tray liners - 99 Cents - great deal!
The rooms are looking really good I like the color that you picked for the bedrooms I love the beds and I think you could get that 8 cube storage unit and just put clothes in there that they don’t need to get into every day like sweaters hats gloves and bathing suits and then put the storage unit in between the two beds

You could do a diy ladder desk that would have desk & shelf
Amazing!! Lots of hard work!
I think the room has turned out really nice! Good job! I always love updating things around the house!

great video series! :) hope to see more of them on your channel!
Floating shelves around 3 would look good
Yay!!!! MADE MY MORNING!
Get a 6cube and paint/stain a 1in x the width of the cube storage and cut the length you want between the beds.
I love watching the updates. It’s all looking great!!❤️
Love the option you can get at Amazon.
The house is looking so good! 🏡❤️

I dont know if you know this but The Dollar Tree sells those bins..in those colors. You might be able to find one that fits! Everything looks great!!
They sell smaller ones that are poor quality, these are actually really sturdy!
@@FrugalFitMom Gotcha...wasnt sure of the quality. Well that sucks! Lol.
Looks good. Maybe you can get a smaller door made and hang up (sliding barn door).
Love the room so far . Waiting for your office one
I enjoy it!
Love the beds :)
Looks good

How about “Barn Doors” for closet. Mounted on outside and the slide.
Have you thought about a barn door type for the closet? They come in various sizes and the rooms look amazing!! Paint goes a long way!!
