As a realtor I can ensure you that wood cabinets are slowly making a comeback. Most people who want to "update" their kitchen just paint the cabinets white and leave all the other outdated countertops and backsplash which creates an unfinished look. By you keeping the wood and brightening everything else up, it looks amazing! So happy that you have your new kitchen!

Add under cabinet lights!!! It will make such a difference and cost less than $100. The light will bounce off those gorgeous counters and add so much to your refresh.
I agree with the under cabinet lighting. The light you get for the cost is a great value. Even if you pay for an electrician to install a wall switch and run wires. It would be worth it if you’re after brightening up an area! We have the ones where we can turn off individual sets of lights underneath which is nice 👍
And choose LEDs that can change color for more fun!

Girl, trust me when I say this. White cabinets are visually appealing, however over years of constant use in the kitchen you will find that the white cabinets are hard to keep clean. Even if you are a cleaning nut you will eventually find in places there will be discoloration and stains that you won't be able to get out. I know white kitchens are the "in" thing but people will eventually realize white kitchens are not considered convenient with kids. However the white countertops are a good medium and they look great
This is so wrong. Americans seem to be very fond of these orange looking pine cabinets, and fear white. In Australia, most people have white kitchens, and they hold up beautifully. Especially if they built in a quality material. Americans really love this ‘80’s timber kitchen vibe.
I was thinking that Christine could paint the cabinets a shade of gray.
In the late 90s I've done research to use bash resistant paint? It's oil based for kitchen cabinets which means it stinks like crazy and you'll have a hard time on cleanup duties until it's completed, but I changed the layout of my kitchen so I had to do that first, before I started to paint it. I did it while kids were at school, how do y'all do this during the shutdown?! The kids are still home, right?
On the walls I read in readers digest and consumer Best Buy reports said that Color Place was best, so I mixed 4 gallons of flat paint with 1 gallon of semi gloss and Lo and behold! The kids were knocking the trim off the walls but the paint was still there! 👀 Wow!
I clean mine with baking soda, vinegar, and some dawn soap mixed with warm water. THEY are not stained at all and I have 2 kids I clean them every 2 weeks.

I love the subtle shade differences in the tiles. Stark white is hard to look at.
Be glad you have actual wood cabinets and not particle board ones covered in plastic melamine stuff. Warping & plastic falling off after like 15 years.
Those counter guys did a good job on the seams too.

Your wood cabinets are actually beautiful and they are framed better by the white around them! It looks so cozy and chic.
When you started explaining what you were gonna do at the beginning of the video, I was a little skeptical. I thought with the brown cabinets it just wouldn’t be possible to brighten the room that much. Boy was I wrong. It looks so great! It’s 10 times brighter than it was. That countertop is amazing. If I wasn’t renting I’d want something similar in my own house.

Even with just new counters it made the kitchen look so much bigger. I think the counters also lightened up the cabinets. I think we could be best friends the excitement you have over changing the kitchen is just how I would be. I am excited for you! I love it, it is perfect

I've never been a fan of subway tile, but you are right, this looks So much better. The different colors instead of the all white makes all the difference. Very nice!
Being married to a contractor this all made me smile. The journeymen tradesmen are like artists. Looks great and I am sure you are loving it. I ordered a new refrigerator/freezer in the beginning of September...still waiting for it. 🙄 Glad I didn't NEED one right away. Have a wonderful week.

Oh my gosh what a difference! I have quartz countertops and will never do anything else. Cheaper, more durable, no maintenance. Though, I was told, to put something under crockpots because the heat can cause discoloration over time. Something to research!

What a day for Christine and Dave Look how bright they both would rave! New counters and tile Christine said with a smile!! This all started 3 weeks ago, thank you thank you, thank you Hugo!! Those counters that they both despised, but now they show them with such pride! The faucet and sink that I love. And look at the tile work up above! I can’t wait to cook Christine exclaimed, she shouts out loud and she’s not ashamed!! Tyler we’re all so proud of you, you take such pride in all you do. Congratulations to you all now start cooking for the fall. Pumpkin and apple breads and pies, you just have to look in her gleaming eyes. We are all so happy for all of you now get in there and make a stew!!!

It looks fab!! And especially that back right corner (when we’re facing you over the main countertop) is SO. MUCH. LIGHTER!! The backsplash is gorgeous with it reflecting beautifully off the new countertops, it just looks fabulous. Yay!

Your kitchen is beautiful!! Quartz was a great, affordable choice for your countertops. I also love the subway tile. So clean looking. As someone who works in the industry, it looks like they did a nice professional job. Finding a good tile guy can be difficult. Our tile installer stays booked up. It's like you said, those intricate cuts show their talent. I also prefer the matte black fixtures. They give such a sleek look in my opinion. Can't wait to see all the future videos. Get to filming woman 😉!!!! I want to see all the things now 😂.

I really love it. You can SEE it lighten up as things were installed. And it's nice you kept the wood. I love paint, but natural wood is fabulous, too!
It's a beautiful transformation! You probably already know this, but you can get wood conditioner, or like Howard's Restore and Finish- to perk up cabinets, if needed.
It looks cleaner too. I love the variation in the subway tile. It ties in to the marbling of the counter. I'm looking into budget kitchen remodeling and this is inspiring.
The tiles up the side of sink window was very satisfying to my OCDness.. lol! Beautiful!

I'm actually soo glad u didn't paint the cabinets, I love that color wood, sometimes I feel so sad when people remodel houses and paint beautiful wood trim or cabinets ,it doesn't always have to be all whites a little wood is nice sometimes

Omg. When you said “donating plasma” and “baby sitting for $3” sitting here with my arm wrap and I just quit babysitting (cuz we moved here) and just laughed
WOW, what a difference that makes! Love both the quartz and the backsplash. I'm so glad you took the backsplash up to the top of the cabinets around the window. It gives it a much more finished look. When we finished our kitchen almost 10 years ago, I chose a deep e-granite undermount sink. I will never do that again!! The sink is so deep that it gives me a backache while I'm washing dishes. Next time it will be a shallower sink. Live and learn.

Love that you left the cabinets and went for a simpler update of the counters and back splash. Your tile guy is gold! You say it's those little details and I would like to make one suggestion.....have all the screws on the outlets straight up and down. :)
I lived in a rental with white cabinets and they are AWFUL to live with!! Especially if you actually use your kitchen for real cooking (like you do). I literally couldn't get the white cabinets clean enough for my liking. I even used brushes and bleach. Long story short, good move keeping the wood.
My mom has an all white kitchen cabinets countertops everything. The cabinets are mat finish and are push open with no handle. Finger prints EVERYWHERE, she has to be on top of it 24/7 and you cannot make an egg in there without her watching over you and cleaning after every step of cooking. It’s aesthetically pleasing on instagram but a nightmare for people that actually use their kitchen
I have white cabinets and appliances but black counter in the kitchen and white counters and cabinets in the bathroom and the bathroom good god is the worst to keep clean the kitchens far easier but its better than anything i have and doesnt get dirty like youd think so maybe it depends on the finish etc
I have white cabinets but they have a really great finish and are super easy to clean and wipe down, I love them!
My mother in law swears by using a bucket of hot water with a bit of original powdered tide mixed in. It removes everything and makes it look super clean when nothing else works. But it makes your skin sticky while you’re cleaning
@@Jen-Chapin now that I think of it, I bet it was the finish! Def a half @$$ job bc it was a perpetual rental!

It looks great! If you are able - Getting the upper cabinets painted white will make it even brighter. You can choose to keep the lowers the natural wood because you like the warmth it brings and its a modern aesthetic to have different color uppers and lowers. I'm glad you are happy with the transformation- you deserve it!
My son and his wife had their oak-stained cabinets professionally painted white -- it made such a huge difference -- looks updated, brighter, etc. BUT, even though the cabinets were very well done, and sealed post-white paint, the paint is chipping here/there. He now regrets not spending the additional $3k to get new cabinets ($2k to have them painted).
Yeah, that's kind of what I was worried about. I mean, I could re-stain them at some point but for now i am just going to leave it and see how it works

Oh yes. My husband is working in a different state, eventually I will be there. We can't find a house, and can't afford to see each other much. I'm eating "pantry" to save money. Also recently qualified to receive food assistance through a local program.
@@sweetsmiles1081 Thanks for sharing, Kelly. There are many who are having spouses work out of state just to survive financially. I feel for you. A small blessing is the internet, so you both can at least communicate. Don't be embarrassed or let anyone criticize you for having to benefit from food stamps/food assistance. If you need them to eat, then use them. Don't be discouraged about not finding a house yet. You will, in time. I want to encourage you to be thankful in the moment. Sometimes in the difficulties, it's hard to see the good, but it's there.

here for it if you need to chat ❤️ this situation has been difficult for all and a friendly ear is I think always welcome. I am from central Europe, working and living in a different country than my family 😑☹️ at least we have facetime calls, no idea when I will see them, maybe next year, no way I can travel home for Xmas.... the money has been reaaaally tight ... also eating out of the pantry and working several side hustles with my full time job.... my heart and blessings go out to everyone in need ❤️
Yeah. We've got less money to spend on anything right now. It really hard to just think about Christmas and gifts and even Birthdays next year.

Yasssss! Lighter and brighter! We did a kitchen upgrade too but kept our counters. We added a backsplash a few years ago then finally repainted the cabinets white and replaced the faucet.
Thank you for showing your improvements. It’s great seeing how you can upgrade while repurposing you’re cabinets. Full gut jobs aren’t necessary to make a big impact!
I LOVE the new countertops and back splash!!! So pretty! I really like the natural wood with the white- it looks more modern, but not cold, like most modern styles can be. Happy for you!

Looks great. I know how happy a kitchen reno makes you. During quarantine i redid my kitchen and now looking at it and working in my kitchen just brings a smile to my face. I do notice i cook more and dont mind clean up as much
I love, love, love the counter tops.
I am jealous of the new sink. The sink that came with my house is so shallow that anytime I have to wash anything by hand I end up soaked and have to go change clothes afterward, at least most of the dishes can go in the dishwasher though. It was also the house with the biggest kitchen that we could afford lol.

Back in April we also redid our countertop and backsplash. Our house had hunter green counters with burnt orange backsplash(!), and went for white on white. It’s like a whole new kitchen!

We did a whole house redo. It took us 10 years. We have Italian tile in our kitchen. We live in florida, cant tell yah what an easy clean it is when all your flooring is good grade tile. Now 20 years later they have tile that looks like wood. It is all in the details...your kitchen looks great. Hugs from Florida.

Your kitchen is gorgeous. I don't really care for white cabinets so it made me so happy to see you kept them the same. I think you spent your money wisely and great call on hiring the tile expert. I have done a few jobs and think they are definately worth every penny when it comes to those difficult cuts.
