YOU NEED YOUR OWN TV SHOW! I am not someone who even does video editing (Im a chemist), but it is videos like this that make me appreciate the effort coders and editors put in. It's like "How it's made" but with kliks' smooth voice-over and fantastic commentary on the detail plebs like me would miss.
I've come back to this video as it came to mind when implementing my home server for my TV shows, films, anime, and home videos. I now use Tdarr to scan my drive for folders containing video and have it convert anything it finds that is h264 to h265 (a.k.a. HEVC), saving me about half a terrabyte in storage. The videos look the same, but they are miraculously smaller! but Coming back to this video it's great to see what a video of equal file size would look like between the two codex. I wanted you to know also that even 7 years later it still served as an inspiration for my hobby project. For me, h265 is still king as AV1 doesn't play nicely with any apple devices I stream to, and I don't have to pay a license cost for doing it on my home server. On modern hardware it transcodes acceptably quickly too.

I was watching Gamers Nexus's recent video on this subject (How Video Compression, Encode, & Decode Work) all the while thinking about this video from 7(!!!) years ago and how I was still able to recall all your explanations given for the tech the better part of a decade later. Although the mentioned video goes into more technical detail, this video is a true masterclass in information communication.
I did some YT stuff a while ago, basically testing compression with Crysis 3, (without mic/commentary) and made a bitrate comparison. It's nice to see a proper one done like this. Excellent job! It was fun setting up recording but I originally used a mix of uncompressed and lossless formats. That changed after the video buffered on read from the hard drive. Anyway it's always nice to see a technical description of something so widely used but often ignored.
Woah, H.265 looks fantastic! I hope with faster computers becoming the norm, it (and alternative similar formats) will become more prevalent, although the video suggests that 4k's bitrate won't be able to be dropped too much :(
I would just like to add that there are lossless compression algorithms that reduce the file format from the massive raw size to something a fraction of the size without any loss of information (and therefore no loss in quality)
HEVC is restricted by patents but the Alliance for Open Media (Amazon, AMD, ARM, Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla, Netflix, NVIDIA and more) is planning to deploy the alternative AV1 format that everyone can use royalty and lawyer-free.
I hate dubstep on it's own, I've just out grown it.. BUT.. Your music in this video, while be an older video gave it sort of a spark. I've watched almost all of your content. If you see this, consider more music like it. It really added an upbeat tone.

One huge problem with the video is how the music changes volume every second, since you seemed to use that effect that balances voice overlay + music. Perhaps next time you could ditch it and keep the music at a constant volume? Other than that video is A+ and I like the music, from your dad or new one from you?
IMO there's never a perfect way to get constant voice commentary along with music, although im fine with the music being "too loud" again it beats the music volume going up and down since it's trying to fit into the pauses of your speech. You see in commercials and documentaries and other videos with talk+music that they do use the volume adjuster but only in long lengths. Like there'd be a time of no talking and thats when you plug in the music. Thing is you talk the whole time (which is good IMO) but the music has no air to breath in. So adjusting the volume is really ok but it doesnt work with your style of video. I dont really have an answer other than just play it "too loud" or just quiet so it's something a bit audible. To be honest I think people are just being stupidly picky! I don't mind I mean I get to watch these great videos for free so why should I care if it is too loud. But either way I never really notice it. I think it was fine for all the other videos you made cause the music isn't the thing I'm focusing on.
@2kliksphilip pr0tip, it's all about EQ. It takes a little practice and a good set of speakers but a touch of EQ on the background music will really help your voice stand out. Use subtractive eq, only cut. A little more work, but you may only have to do it once if you bounce the music files and save them forever

GL, if you want someone to do going low with, I'm your perfect candidate I aim like a silver but I am a LE. and i need to practice pistols and smokes, also if you wanna flop protip: change your shoot keybind to mouse scroll (or middleclick if your button is stiff) it's so hard to tap fire scrolling without fucking up your aim. GL :D cause you're clearly struggling to look legit in the going low vids without putting your sensitivity at stupid settings. :P
It's probably still processing. This was only uploaded like 40 min ago and youtube takes it's time to, ironically, process and compress the video in it's own ways. It does this differently for each quality level and thus can take much longer to process higher quality video.
seems like I ll benefit from this as I watch videos in 480p and it buffers for a second or two maybe if this is implemented I would be able to watch 720 or 1080 p with the new compression
Wouldn't TH-cam compress the video if you uploaded an uncompressed one -- or a video with an uncompressed video segment -- making that first video clip meaningless (as it's gonna be served in h264/hs265/v8/v9)?
First one looks like most TH-cam videos from before 2010 with the except of some very rare gaming videos that were uploaded uncompressed. (I actually saw one that was 720p from 2007 and it looked on par with things from normal big TH-camrs).
I converted every episode of Bobs Burger's from H.264 over to H.265 Both look the same and are in full HD but the h.265 files are under half the size. 11/10 worth the hours it took.
nah unless you install h264ify, anyhow pretty good video regardless it does what it needs to do, the thing with youtube is that it re-encodes the video, so some might get it in vp9 by default on desktop, and h264 on android/ios etc
I watched this video three times, first, in 1080p, then, in 144p, and then, in 2160p (even if my screen is only a 1080p one), and it was interesting to see how sound quality and download time was affected, can you make a video about sound compression now you talked about the pictures ?
I told someone they need to up the bitrate in their video since the audio quality is horrible and someone replied saying how it's 1080p and that's good enough or something like that. So I put the bitrate to the lowest it could go and it turned into super low res keyframes only. Then youtube compressed it even more and made it look worse XD.
When you download the TEACHPRO computer training course, a Windows videocompression not installed message is displayed. Maybe you know what there is not enough driver or what needs to be fixed in the computer, so that the training video course gets scared ??
Could you explain or make a tutorial of how you made this video? I know that you made the Campath in HLAE and then recordid with "host_framrate 60" and startmovie ... but what codec and/or program did you use to encode and how long did it take if your hardware? Did you convert anything in handbreak? what did you import into your NLE ( After Effects,right?) and how did you render and deliver and uplaod to youtube?

Never understood what the deal was with video compression, as someone who only saved minute videos of their friends playing when something funny happend. Now, over the years, and with hundreds of gigabytes of fotage saved, it all starts to make sense now. You want to savior those moments, without absolutetely eating up your harddrive

How have I watched this multiple times and only realized that "3 MB" and such was meaning the file size of the actual video, not the bit rate.
There are tons of settings inside of these codecs. It may be wrong if we just look mb/s.

you wouldnt make it to 720p, unless you want to wait. it'll help a bit, and you wont wait for anywhere near as long, but it wont get you there.

Yeah if the image isn't changing then the compression can just copy it to save memory.
