Patrick, I just recently discovered your channel and I really enjoy your stories. I have decided to reduce my time watching news and current events. It's just too stressful. Your channel is entertaining, fun and interesting!

They moved the Friends fountain to the Warner Bros. Studio lot before they demolished the ranch. I went on a tour of the Studio in May. They have a wood couch in front of it where you can get your picture taken.

    Patrick,
I live near the studio. They also filmed Bewitch and The Partridge Family on that street that was on the ranch lot. I am 57 years old and been on that lot several times. The first time I completely geeked out to the Steve’s and Partridge’s houses.
Your pod casts are a great Gen X destination.
Really am enjoying hearing about your ex
    experiences growing up.👍😎

It’s really sad 😢 that the History of all these Film Studios aren’t Preserved.
I agree with you, Patrick, that they could have kept it all and built around the History.
Have you heard that the Eight Is Enough Home was torn down and replaced with something horrendous?
Then, you have a wonderful lady who bought the Real Life Brady Bunch Home after the interior and yard were turned into a replica of the Set! There should be more people like her to preserve all this History 💜

The opening of Funny Girl, where she's walking towards the theater, was filmed there too. Soo much history lost. It really is heartbreaking.

"Leave it to Beaver" was shot on the Universal lot. Enjoyed the story though.

Leave It To Beaver was shot at 2 different studios different times. Yes, Universal is one of them and the exterior house still exists. CBS Radford, aka MTM, aka Republic Pictures was the other. The exterior Cleaver house still exists on this lost last time I was there.

This is so sad, there is always somebody who wants to come along and destroy things. It always baffles me why so many beautiful things are sold to developers, including many a big star's home, all flattened in the name of profit. History seems to mean nothing. You are lucky that you got to see these things and have the memories, future generations will never know. The Yellow Brick Road was another one you said in a previous video, to me that is criminal. Thank you Patrick for sharing - hugs from Scotland 🙂

I heard about this awhile back. It breaks my heart. I don't understand how these people can just tear down all these historical buildings. Not just The Ranch but places all over L.A. and California in general. I live in MN now but I was born in San Diego and this history means a lot to me too.

You can actually see many crossover houses when they shot exteriors like the Bewitched house several times throughout the seasons of Hazel and down the street from The Partridge Family when they would get on the bus! Even when Hazel moved to the new format in the final season she was once on a real estate job and you could see the Bewitched house down the street, but not the Baxter's, which was right next door on the left!

I was there with The WB/Kids' WB for almost a decade. We had SO many great times on that lot (including late-night golf cart races, but the less said about those the better). Remember Michigan J's? The little cafe they built for us? It was devastating when they started pulling everything down. I'm glad they're hoping to attract more production (we certainly need that), but yes, SO much history has been lost to the wrecking balls on that patch of ground.

Not to diminish how heartbreaking the loss of the Columbia Ranch is, but so much of it was burned down decades ago. Even the lagoon where Gidget and The Monkees shot, was sold off and developed into a shopping center. The writing was on the wall for the last several years. Expect to see more destruction as real estate values rise and production runs away. It's a very sad time in Hollywood.

Wait, it was relocated over to the Warner lot, wasn't it? It's supposed to be part of the studio tour.

So do I and it took 3 seconds to Google:
Yes, the fountain from the opening credits of Friends was moved from its original location at Warner Bros. Ranch to the main lot of the Warner Bros. studio in Los Angeles. The fountain is now a featured part of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood and is available for photo-ops with fans.

CGI has ruined film making. So sad.

There's footage of some of those iconic facades be demolished on some TH-cam videos.
It is sad to see them go, but unfortunately most things don't last forever.
On the positive side, there's tons of footage that will be around for generations.
BTW, did you know that the Walton's house was also used as the house of Sam Jones on Mayberry RFD?
And on one episode of Mayberry RFD you can see the Maltese Falcon statuett.

I read that only 20% of scripted TV shows & movies are now produced in the LA area. I believe that includes all of SoCa too, but I'm not totally sure. Changing tastes, technology, creativity & politics are throwing the region for a loop. Huge soundstages are being built in areas like London, Atlanta, NYC, parts of Canada, Europe. Even with a lot of CGI, I'd still think an outdoor backlot might be less common or more useful than large warehouses/soundstages are. But that's assuming LA doesn't lose even more of its original marquee industry. The idea of a Detroit with palm trees isn't too uplifting a future.
