I legit love the story and the progression of this series! From medieval to renaissance, to pre WWI, WWII, the cold war era and now the modern era. I love the juxtaposition of old and new next to each other!
I've not watched the series yet - just stumbled over Akruas right now - , but this sounds suspiciously like donoteat01's Frankling series should've been.
this series is incredible, the history, the story, the detailing, realism. It reminds me of the Mars series, like next level Cities: Skylines, but TH-cam content in general. I come from a east European excommunist country and this gives a hole new perspective and explains so much about those times. They don t teach history like this.
Right? I think this series could be complementary material for school kids. It's entertaining and educational. To me, this is the best CS series on YT.

Late 80s we did a yearly autumn school trips to Tatra Mountains in Slovakia which were fantastic. 1989 we had to get passports since going with just ID cards was over. It took 2 weeks to get them, showing up at the police station every two days or so. I have no idea how my teacher convinced police to give a bunch of school kids passports, what a hero.
The Palast der Republik wasn't at the Alexanderplatz. The Alexanderplatz is about 1 km east behind the rail tracks. The Palast der Republik was at position where the Schloss/Humbold-Forum is today. The open spaces around the Palast der Republik are Schlossplatz, Lustgarten and Marx--Engels-Forum. (Anyway: Very nice episode again! Thank you)
A perfect episode to end the 80's! I really like the end scene, inspired by the demonstrations right in front of the Palast der Republik in Berlin, will inside the last birthday party f the GDR took place. May I ask, how you have managed to get this old TV asthetics? Fabulous work as always, looking forward to the "wild" 90's.
@@Akruas Thanks a lot for your aswer. As I do not play Cities:Skylines myself, I did not know all the features. I've hoped, it was some kind of a editing programm feature to make it look like shown on an old TV set - I am looking for something like this to gain this effect for my own videos (with deal with model railway of the GDR).
There's a good book on why the Revolutions of 1989 happened so quickly and why their extent was so unexpected - "Private Truths, Public Lives" by Timur Kuran. The basic argument is that so many had been hiding their true beliefs under communism that nobody realized just how widespread the discontent was. Once the movement picked up enough steam, more and more people felt empowered to join and it quickly snowballed in a way nobody foresaw.
Doing a full building and an amazing plaza all in PO and it looking awesome to end with a huge example of historic capabilities of SC with these shots using the sound of the era... simple amazing, Akruas
Oh my, with every single episode you manage to top the previous ones. You're raising the bar to extremely high levels and I'm here for it! Amazing stuff. Especially that footage at the end was chef's kiss.
Outstanding. No city and no build in CS1 that I no of feels so “living” and real as Altingrad. Thanks for al the time you put on preparing and sharing al the knowledge. I lived this times from the western side of the iron curtain, as a teenager. Really interesting. And your building skills, of course, there are no words 😅Cheers and keep Altingrad living, please
A thing that would fit perfectly this year would have been a new large boulevard that just cuts throught the old neightborhoods and a HUGE parlament building at the end of it (something similar to the Palace of the Parliament from Bucharest). Anyways, great video! Keep going on with the awensome work
It's interesting in the case of East Germany to note just how sudden and unexpected the end was. Of course the Monday prayers and demonstrations had been going on all year - but the announcement of the immediate opening of the border i.e. fall of the Berlin Wall was a huge mistake by the government. They sent out some minor minister to do a press conference and didn't give him details. The border was planned to be opened later, presumably in a more controlled manner, but when asked for a timescale he just said "As far as I know, immediately" which led to citizens overwhelming the border posts. The Stasi and police also came close to violently cracking down on one of the biggest marches in Leipzig but decided not to. Things could have ended very differently!
16:05 the name of shopping centre next to Hotel Kyjev in Bratislava was called Prior... then it changed names a few times but it's been renamed back to Prior recently 😎
I love that rp. Please do it in future. Because this building chronologicaly is such a great concept. You could do north american city in cs 2 once its more optimised. Because north american cities had realy diferent way of development.

love the series♥maybe u find some inspiration for the 90's in my home town potsdam in east germany i know they build a huge shopping mall in one of the residencial areas from the soviet era.
The yellow windows are actually an early form of anti-UV coating. Later on they developed coatings that didn't have a colour, like the window tint you see in cars today, and I believe that clear coats are even available
new here. your town looks very much like koblenz, germany. german corner where river mosel joins the Rhine. I don't know if it influenced you. but I like it. very nice!
