      Honda Pilots have a serious anti theft system . If you bypass the key fob unlock and Manuel door key unlock don't work and you have to access inside vehicle another way..the steering wheel locks and if you manage to unlock the steering wheel the wheels lock up so the tires won't roll . So the vehicle will NOT move even if you start it and put in drive oe reverse. It will NOT roll . Yeah for some reason my key stopped manually unlocking the door . I have an 2008 Honda Pilot. which is a High Performance Vehicle. The engine is solid even when everything else breaks down. The sound system is awesome. I also have a 2013 Honda Pilot sound system is not as strong as the 2008.

      Where the heck do you find 1/8” long staples like what Honda used?

  • @Ladnass

    I started my repair a while back to do while I was recovering from knee surgery. Everything was very simple and straightforward until the re assembly. I had a big issue during the reassembly with trying to re-stable the new cover to the plastic piece. I tried multiple staple guns and staples and nothing would penetrate the plastic piece. I shelved the project and stuck a pillow where I pulled the arm rest out. Going forward and getting to the project after months, I went to a furniture upholsterer and asked if they had a pneumatic staple gun that would penetrate the plastic piece. Their staple gun didn’t work either and I was directed to using stainless steel staples which “ I think” I had already tried.
    So, using that Gorilla glue, I Like That!!
    Thanks for the Video!!

      Same for me! Just finished it. The staples did take a bit to get out. But using the glue was a snap. The corners were a little bunchy, but still fit with a little trim with some scissors. I'm glad my dog ripped the original vinyl one, because this looks and feels so much better!

    Just finished replacing my console cover after watching your video. I used gorilla glue and 6mm staples to attach the new leather (not as many staples as Honda!). I also used a hair dryer to heat/loosen the leather to help stretch it over the foam/plastic. Lots of stretching required. Turned out great! Thanks for your video!

  • @DiceDemon
    @DiceDemon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Worked perfect, thanks! Those staples were a bugger to get out, I used a small screwdriver and needle nosed pliers, and a six pack of Coors light. Also, that glue sticks to everything! (next time I will use vinyl gloves). The finished repair looks fantastic.

    Dude! The instructions to the repair were to a T. Few items to share on my experience. Key to removing staples (used a 5 point and pliers), start wrapping from front center (look for a small V cut on leather and align to notch under the cover), when appling gorilla spray avoid center. (allows ability to easily stretch), avoid wrinkles by lifting and resetting. Total time 1 hr (plus overnight for leather to stretch).

    This was super helpful. A couple of things that worked for me. You're not trying to salvage the old top so no need to be gentle with it. Once you have a couple of staples out you can cut straight across it with scissors. Then it's easy to pull off. After that most of the staples will be half out and easy to grab with pliers. Also, I put a couple of staples in to hold it in the right place then got the rest with hot glue. It's precise and has very little wait. I haven't had bad luck (or more likely bad skill) with spray adhesives

    Nice job . Would the foam fit back in?

    • @fixinit
      @fixinit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The foam is very thing and is glued to the armrest. You leave it on and just put the material over it.

      Laura Hmm..I would probably remove all the foam and replace it. You can find foam at the craft store. 😎

    If you have a Ridgeline the method is different. Slide the armrest towards the dash. Don’t unscrew anything. Look inside the sliding track and locate the two slide stop tabs on each side. Ignore the thing in the middle. Use an 8” or longer medium size flathead to press the tabs down and slide it off. You might need a second screwdriver and an assistant to slide it off.

    You only used glue? Did the spray adhesive last? I know the temps inside a car can range from whatever cold temp to even hotter than the highest outside temp. That’s to say a glue would have to adhere to both the leather and the bonded surface in both extremes, for years! Say from -20°F (-6°c) in winter to like 150°F (65°c) in direct sunlight!

      Michael Ballard So far so good. That glue usually holds well plus that plastic cover holds everything in place. We’ll see.

    Thanks. Quick question. When you cover the center console with the new Vinyl, do you think it makes more sense to cover from the front and back (as you did in the video) first or from side to side first? Does it matter?

    • @fixinit
      @fixinit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t matter. As long as everything lines up.
