  • 5 Reasons Why Old Cars Are Better Than Modern Cars
Sure, new cars are great! They have amazing speed, horsepower, comfort, style, and more improvements then you can shake a stick at. However, there are some real reasons that #old #cars are better than #new cars. I'm going to walk through 5 and by the end, you might just want to go pick up a bit of an older car. We'll talk about reliability, but we'll talk about things like transmissions, the types of engines in these cars, and more.

My cars needed some things replaced but overall 17 years going it’s still running strong I call her beast cause that’s what she is a beast. What I really like about the car it has hydraulic steering and drive by wire throttle so you feel the engine you feel the steering and most importantly to me you feel the road it’s fun to drive. When you steer you get some weight and actually feels like your steering and dosnt feel loose. The throttle is great actually feel the power from the engine it’s fantastic

YES! Spot on! You could work on the older cars yourself, and you could do it right. You did not need special diagnostic/programming electronic tools that cost five figures or more.
In my college years I drove a Volvo 240. That rig was simple yet indestructible. I was 19 years old, and I performed full service on that ride - engine oil, transmission fluid, rear differential oil, brakes, spark plugs, everything. It was so simple to maintain. It lasted 351000 miles before it sacrificed itself to save my life. I walked away from a collision at 40MPH. A minivan had run a red light and I plowed right into it. After the collision, the driver's door opened as usual, and I walked away with just a seatbelt rash. I will never forget that shiny black 240. What a car!

To add to this, modern all-electronic cars will never be collectible-they will be impossible to repair 20+ years from now. The modules will be discontinued, and no one will stock spares. You can easily maintain a carburated car from the 1960s-you would be able to do this on a 2015 car in 2055,

@@rchot84 Regardless of how many people want to repair it, there will not ever be thrid party source for all the electronic parts, the reason is that custom computer chips are protected by patents, limited run only at major foundary and third party parts manufacturers have no hope of duplicating it. • @mprism7985
      @mprism7985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

OS993 Absolutely. The reason cars nowadays don’t last longer than 10 is because of leasing. Most people take out 5 year leases then give the car back to get a newer one. In that case they sell the car used for a much lower price. If they can get the customer to constantly come back for repairs on their 5-8 year old car, then dealer/manufacturer makes $/€/£/¥

ExoticCar PlayPlace Believe it or not my '17 Civic was designed to be pure analog and lightweight. I actually wished the radio was either actually old school and playing cd's or new age and playing good satellite radio tunes. It does neither. To change the mileage information display you must lean forward and press on an inconvenient tiny stalk instead of having a button on the steering wheel. It's intentionally old school. I had to add insulation because there wasn't any in the doors. So kudos and smart for Honda to provide 6 speed manual option but I wish I could have gotten the k20 based 2.0L NA motor, port-injected with the hatchback which I couldn't instead of my turbo GDI motor. Its on sedans only. The wheels were too heavy as well so changed out for OZ's. And the exhaust restrictive so I switched muffler to Supersprint pieces I welded in. Now it's more like to my likings but I still have a crappy audio system difficult to upgrade, and a 50% vinyl steering wheel to replace with all leather. You get the picture. This car was analog and simpler, but not quite perfect as no car is especially at this price. It's a hit and miss with cars these days. But you have the right idea Mark. BMW and Merc and others need to continue to offer old school, manual trans, simpler and lightweight cars.

    Mark , I remember my 2.0 liter Peugeot engine in my 1979 504 .
It was cast iron block and alu head .
A modern 2.0 liter engine would easily fit 3 times in it !
That engine was bulletproof , here in the Netherlands you still see these 40 to 50 year old Peugeots running around , the ones that didn't rot away that is .
But as you say , the engineers used much more metal for the engines AND most of all , used motorcycle like chaines for distribution .
They only had about a 100 bhp , but ran forever .
I keep to these oldies , restored or original rather than buy a modern " playstation " .

I mostly agree, except for a couple of points...
On manual transmissions, just keep in mind that modern automatics are *much* better than those of the past, so depending on your driving style, it might be a tougher decision. I have a manual E90 BMW, and often wish I had an auto w/ paddle-shift. It might not be quite as good on the track, in terms of feel/experience, but I'm pretty much never on the track anymore. It would be superior for like 90% of my driving.
On the last point about technology, this is a double-edged sword. We also lose many crucial safety improvements if we go back too far. For example, I absolutely loved my E30, but my E90 is a way safer vehicle. I'm not sure how much advancement has been made since (at least the E90 has all the air-bags and such), but there is a pretty huge difference between 30-year-old cars and 10-year-old cars, for example.

Even if modern cars are more reliable, they're definitely not as user friendly as cars made before the 2010s, most are starting to take away essential features like spare tires, parking brakes, cup holders, and CD players, features that were still commonplace as recent as 2015. Hell a lot of them are also taking away the easy access to the locations of the oil filter and drain plug on the underbody.

Well there actually design to crumple so it can lessen the impact. With older steel body cars, that’s not the case. So accident wise, a newer car would technically better in a crash. But I do still preferred older vehicles. The sound when you turn the key and here a mean soundin v8 under the hood and not even mentioning the exaust.

A greener future, when 16% of combined emissions in the US & EU come from light transport alone. Meanwhile the rest comes from industry, power generation, agriculture and heavy transport.
It seems to me the focus should be on tightening restrictions on those who do the majority of pollution & damage with the pockets and budgets to be able to clean the mess they created from the start.
People are perfectly fine driving any car they want, their carbon foot print is nothing compared to mega corps building disposable crap in China to evade labor & environmental laws in their own countries.
Once again, the pull the 'blame & guilt the consumer' card and it works so well. Just like the whole plastic recycling scam they pulled off on everyone.
Also, blind excessive consumerism and a culture of leasing and spoon fed convenience is part of the reason why we got here to start with.

I have always wanted a BMW 3-series. 1st one I desired was a the E21 323i, then the E30 325i and then the E36 328i and then the E46 330i. When the E90 first came out it also had the 330i as the top engine, albeit with even more power. What they all had in common was a nice NA 6-cylinder engine. Then weirdly they decide to add turbos to the engine and we got the 335i ... and so it continued ever more in later models. For this reason, I intend to keep my 'purist' BMW E90 330i --- the last of its breed!

I got the bright idea to purchase a slightly used 2005 Rubicon Wrangler and sell the CJ. About 5 years after purchase, with less that 33K miles on it, I started having all kids of computer problems, wiring problems, etc. Since it was manufactured by Chrysler, I figured the local Dodge dealer could repair it. No such luck. Moral of the story? The CJ was meant to used, repaired, enjoyed, repeat. The Wrangler? Drive, trade in, repeat.

Making vehicles disposable through the course of the years. Is similar to what is happening in the tech industry. The best thing about older cars? For example my 996 turbo was cheaper to insure than my beater 2011 Mazda 3 haha, also my 15 BMW m4 Is so expensive to insure almost same price as 2011 GT-R. Thing is if you have older car you need to buy parts more often. If you work on your car yourself that's even better but if You have almost brand new car. Gotta make payments.... • @jamesmedina2062

DailyDrivenTurbo I think sometimes it's a wash. I bought two 5k dollar mazda 6 wagons with V6's but I had to spend money on both and just gave up on the 2nd one. In such a scenario, a poorly maintained money pit is inferior to a newer vehicle especially for consistency of usability. So if you have 20k cash saved up I would get an older car and redo the motor to perfection but since I dont have the money saved up, the only answer for me is new or slightly used 1-3 year old car in certain models with warranty.
