- Frame up completely restored from a parts bike.
Powder coated frame, rebuilt engine, undercut trans, Kevlar clutch, almost every new part I could find, new Fuel tank, side covers, headlight ,mustang seat, KG sliders, cables, ss brake lines just to name a few.

My dad bought his '84 out of the box in '85. He sold it when my older sister was born in '88. Now he's 61, and wishes he would have never sold it. But everybody said it was time to grow up and be a dad. He relives his youth by watching these videos. Ha Ha!

Are these bikes hard to work on? Are the carbs hard to get to, for repair, maintenance, and making adjustments? Are parts easy to get? Your advice would be greatly appreciated, as I'm thinking to get one of these.
@@BEEBEE159 they have there moments...carb removal can be challenging sometime.as for rebuilding there not bad.internal parts can be a issue but alot of parts out there..but remember your dealing with a 30+ yr old machine.
This bike is so american, even though it's japanese :D
Where do you find side covers new and shiny?
I miss the 80s ,but I relive it with my 86Vmax for the last 32 years and counting.

Beautiful Magna...! I bought and loved one of these but she was one year older. Polished aluminum stands out nicely. Love it...!
I had a V30 that looked like it just rolled off the production line, the cleanest one I'd ever seen, until this one! The engine casings and rocker head covers look like they've been quality triple chrome plated, if you used a buffer on the alloy then you've done a stellar job with that!
Beautiful machine, probably cleaner and shinier than one you'd find in an actual museum!
Man back in the day I had one, black in color, but otherwise set up just like this one. Really takes me back to days gone by.

I had a New 1985 V65 from 86-92, then got busy with life.
Bought a used one 10 years ago (not in great shape, but OK) just to ride and still take it out for 1,000 miles a year.
If they still made them, I would buy one new.

The V65 Magna was only made 1983 - 1986, the V45 from 83'-86' was the closes it ever got to the V65.

I had an 1983, the same color. I upgraded the seat, with a Corbin saddle. Great bike, smooth and fast. It had a factory alarm and cable lock.

That thing is sweet my friend! I had a 83, deep blue in color. Wish mine would have looked 1/2 as nice! Them forward pegs,, make all the difference with that backrest. I also had the same. Very very nice ride!
Looks as good as mine... 1983 blue metallic, just over 10,000 miles, like new, all original, original owner! I have cable lock, tool kit, windshield, original seat with sissy bar all chrome with a Golden Eagle Emblem with V65 Magna written through the emblem. All accessories were purchased when bike was new for the V65 Magna, that also means chrome soft grips, engine saver with chrome highway pegs
Old video and an old bike but man that baby sure looks fine and would look real good under the legs of this old man. Wish they still made these. I like that extra back rest too.

At our shop us mechanics tried to hide when these came in for work! LOL
The carbs in the valley between the "V" are an absolute bitch to work on. A Nightmare.
A common job was the bike had been left sitting - and the carbs all clogged up with rotting gas.
I swear there are a million jets in these carbs - all to be painstakingly cleaned out.
Cleaning them out was a $1,000 job.

Just gorgeous. I've had three v65's, a v45 and a v30(wife's). Still own an exquisite v65 (and the v30) that would rival yours but have to say mine would fall short. KG sliders are like hens teeth. Frame up restore is no joke. Undercut trans is above and beyond. I couldn't hear you well but am guessing you did the three yellow wire mod, fork brace, and K&N intake. All pretty standard for serious v65 owners. Enter that baby into some bike shows if you still have it. Excellent job.
@depush - I have these same bikes currently that I'm trying to restore (two Magna's and a Sabre - two V65 and a V45) but not familiar with the three mods you mentioned. Could you explain or share what these mods (three yellow wire mod, fork brace, and K&N intake) are please?
@@MatthewJFitzpatrick sure, The stock plug on the three yellow wires between the stator (alternator) and R/R (regulator/rectifier) is known to melt and short out. When they melt hard they take the side cover with it.
Cutting out the plug and soldering the wires directly correct this issue.
The fork brace right above the front tire fender has been known to crack. Somebody and possibly more than one somebody has CNC’d a steel fork brace that fits underneath the original and bolts right in. An eBay search might turn one up.
Replacing the OEM air filter in the air box with a good K&N oiled filter well let it breathe better. No one I know or even know of has ever successfully modified the airbox. It’s best just to put a good breathing filter in there. If you can still find a good Kiker four into one exhaust that’s also a good mod for more horsepower. A rejet would be in order. All of these I got from long tested ideas from back in the day.

@@depush Thank you so much I greatly appreciate you taking the time to tell me all this so thank you again! I will definitely look into all three of these mods and implement them. I'm still kinda new to the Honda Magna/Sabre's but getting more and more familiar with them as time goes by.
One last question which if you could answer would be a huge help - assuming I do the K&N filter (I was actually going to do this regardless because I've had lots of success with them in the past even with using the factory airbox in other vehicles) and possibly a four-into-one exhaust (if I can find one), WHAT RE-JETTING DO YOU RECOMMEND (JET SIZES)? Is there a general way to calculate this for any bike?
I have a lot of vintage bikes I'm restoring from the 80's and I know that most (if not all) bikes from the 80's came WAY TOO LEAN from the factory. So let's say I just do a K&N filter in the original airbox, how many steps up (sizes) should I go on the jets to make them run better and get more power out of them? This is the one thing that I just can't figure out - is there some generic formula to calculate this? As a reference and example, here are the bikes I have --> '83-'85 Magna/Sabre's; '81 Yamaha XS400 Special, '80 XS850, '84 XV1000 Virago; and '87 Suzuki Savage LS650.

Hi there! That is a gorgeous restoration. Yes, I know that this is an older post. I'm curious to know if you are still around, alive and well. Do you still have a few Magna's of the V65 variety and do you have one for sale? I had a V65 for a number of years and I regret ever selling it. I am looking for one again that I can ride to the end of my riding days. I have been on bikes for 50 years and my time is running short. I want to close my riding days on a bike that gave me the best grin factor. Cheers and Thanks - Mike

I have one just like it restored and ready for sale! $2000. Chrome does need a little polishing but it's the same color with rainbow flakes in the paint. Back rest configuration is for rear rider only. None for driver. Leave a reply if interested.

I have never seen a V65 Magna as nice as this. That exhaust note is so deep compared to what im hearing on other videos. Has the exhaust been modded?
I Have a 1983 V65 Magna Midnight Blue, I'm also the original owner, it still looks just like it rolled off the showroom floor. The only thing I have done is put new tires, brakes, change oil, tune up, normal maintenance on it. The options I have on it, are from when I bought it new, V65 windshield, soft grips, engine saver, chrome highway pegs, & a sissy bar & pad. On the back of my sissy bar, it's all chrome with a huge Gold Eagle that says V65 Magna in blue, the same color as my bike My best friend has a 1986 candy apple red one, that has way more chrome than this one. He was a previous Harley owner that upgraded his 76' 1/2 Wide Glide, when he finished with that Harley, the only thing stock was the frame! So you can just imagine what it look liked, the 86' model came with a lot of chrome to start off with, do some research if you really like this bike. Like the first muscle cruiser ever, & the fasted bike made for a couple of years, check out You Tube: th-cam.com/video/uCQ_9b-DDAk/w-d-xo.html & th-cam.com/video/iORT5E6Hbkc/w-d-xo.html The things that were standard on it were: self canceling blinkers, you can lock the steering on the bike with flashers, & without, front brakes with 4 anti-dive settings with fluid & air in the front forks, hydraulic clutch, shaft driven, water cooled, 6 speed gear box, with gages that show neutral, what gear you are in, plus low fuel, oil, high beam, stop light. & the 1983 model had a 6 foot optical cable alarm, very loud.
