Motorola Edge 30 Ultra Review | Pixel 7 Pro Killer?

- Reviewing the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, a mega-sized, super-spec flagship smartphone boasting a 200MP camera, 120W battery charging and serious gaming smarts. I've been testing the Moto Edge 30 Ultra as my full-time phone for over a week so here's my final verdict, just before the Pixel 7 Pro is launched!
Check out my reviews of other best Android mobiles of 2022, including Samsung's S22 Ultra and other near 7-inch smartphones.
This Motorola blower made headlines as the first handset with a 200MP camera, and it certainly is a capable shooter. Low light performance is particularly strong, while the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra can also handle HDR situations and capture stunning portraits. The lack of a dedicated telephoto camera is the only issue.
Performance for gaming on Genshin Impact, PubG, CODM etc is another winner. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 runs the show and you even have that Moto gaming mode to lend a hand.
Battery life is good enough for confident all day play on the Edge 30 Pro, while the 120W fast charging and wireless charge abilities can get you powered up again quickly and easily.
So is the Motorola Edge 30 Pro a worthy alternative phone to the Pixel 7 Pro, Samsung S22 Ultra etc? Well, it's certainly a highly enjoyable option, with very few flaws.

I bought this phone and didn't regret! Very nice build quality, excellent display, capable cameras and great software! Not to mention Motorola committed 3 OS updates and 4 yrs security. Good job, Moto!
How is the touch assist when you touch the bezels as they are curved ? Do they a serious issue ? Also how is the haptic compared to iphones

How is the battery?
@@amangeorge2407 The battery is phenomenal. My Moto Edge 30 Ultra learned my charging behavior last night and I'm sure it's lasted even longer since then. I was surprised that after more than an hour of watching TH-cam, the battery was still at 100%. Thought at first that can't be, isn't there something wrong? So I thought I'd test it. Since this morning at 5:00 a.m. the device has been running at 144Hz and full display brightness. The screen on time is now 9 hours and 13 minutes and I still have 29% battery left. I ran TH-cam for 4 hours, Netflix for 3.2 hours and otherwise did the usual things. I'm more than excited!
I'm currently using a Motorola g62 5g and I'm very pleased with it. But this is defo gonna be my next phone. I love Motorola phones. Thanks for the review.
Have to say I've hardly seen any of the 'big TH-camrs ' review this with those big numbers so thanks again for the reviews
I'd been waiting for the Edge 30 Ultra for a while. I'm more than happy with the purchase almost half the price of a mainstream flagship but with specs to match. Using the phone has been flawless and despite the battery being under 5000mah it provides a whole day of usage but if you do need a top up the 120w charger can charge from empty to full in about 15 mins. Coming from Xiaomi Mi 10t Pro the Edge 30 Ultra felt silky smooth in comparison.
And compared to Xiaomi updates? Is Motorola good?
Please compare Google Pixel 7 with Motorola Edge 30 ultra! These two flagships have come under the same price of 60k in India! I am now in a palpitation that what should be the best choice in this segment?
I love Motorola phones 🔥 I have so many that I would never buy from another brand , right now I have the Motorola Edge plus 2022 and I'm already looking to buy my next Motorola , I'm waiting for this Motorola Edge 30 ultra to get here in the USA 🇺🇲 to buy it right away 🙂

That part where you talked about how holding the phone by the sides makes the screen unresponsive or creates erratic behavior really sounds like a deal breaker
Got mine last month. It's a lot of phone hardware for the money. Truthfully its completely overspecified for my own needs, would look to the Edge 30 Fusion which would comfortably meet the requirements of like 95% of users.

I have the Edge 2022 and love it. No fancy glass back but I keep mine cased so it doesn't matter. So far flawless operation.
This looks to be a very balanced flagship phone and a decent Pixel alternative. Shame it's not available in my region (same with the Pixel). It would cost me substantially more to import one that phones from other brands with physical stores makes more sense.
Try the Nubia Z40s Pro better hardware and bigger battery and way cheaper than the 30 edge Ultra.
Another thing with imports is no warranty.
It's the curved screen which is a deal-breaker for me, one of my pet peeves! Why can't they just use a superior flat panel? I know very few people who actually like curved displays.

I am very tempted with this phone myy upgrade is due soon. So a big thing for me is customisations is there a theme store on this phone like there is on the Samsung?
Would be a pretty natural transition from OnePlus 7 Pro as it too have those curved edges. Very tempting indeed. I just hope it doesn't turn into a portable hotplate like 7 Pro does when gaming. Very expensive as well. Would be by far my priciest phone if I switched. Small things here and there. But still very tempting.
Really enjoy your reviews, especially the photo and video examples. Where do you go to take the pics and videos? My wife has a Moto G30 from last year, its still brilliant, the only moan being its massive size.

Got mine yesterday and it's a keeper for sure.
One thing not mention in reviews I've seen is the AMAZING high volume on headphones. I use galaxy live buds and the volume is the highest I've had on a mobile in years(Since EU brought in regulations to limit max volume for safety).
Camera is great, android stock with Moto touches is wonderful. I love the edges, they make the gesture navigation swipes from side so easy.
Can you please test the cinematic mode of the video recording? Both day/night time. Would you be able to upload it on TH-cam so everyone can see?
Battery life ?
@@Aakash.Singh1 Battery life is amazing. It lasts me twice as long as my old pixel 4 XL. And the turbo charge is fantastic. 10 to 20 minutes to fully charge when I get low, so I hardly feel the need to charge now.

My drawback is the curved display just because i prefer a flat screen any day.

Looks good, Didn't seem to mention that its display is a fair bit lower than the Pixel & others 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~393 ppi density) V's Pixels 1440 x 3120 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~512 ppi density)
The Moto is only $50 Cheaper than the Pixel Pro (Both 256MB versions) at least here in Australia.
It is probably a decent competitor

Excellent review as always...Thinking of replacing my Pixel 6 but not a fan of the curved screen...but may bite the bullet and go for it. Or wait and see what the Pixel 7 has to offer.
Out of curiosity, why are you already looking to replace your Pixel 6? Do you replace devices annually usually?

The main purpose of a smart phone is to communicate effectively and reliably without signal dropouts during calls or mobile data transfer ie its ability to connect reliably at any location. this review is mostly about the camera. the biggest concern with smart phones is the signal strength in just about any country. it would be good to see reviews to provide information on signal strength test results for city, suburbs and regional or rural areas. eg. how effective are the built in antennas for signal strength etc ?

Thanks for your video, I waited and bought the 12/256 version of this phone. Exchanged my 5 year old OnePlus5 8/128 and got Rs 9300 as exchange bonus! I had previously ordered Pixel 7Pro but as soon as saw the this version of Motorola , I cancelled it and bought this. 24 hrs of use, I'm so thrilled to be using my first ever Motorola phone. Waiting for the next OS update.
How did it go? I'm using an old Motorola and it works perfectly, so I'm quite confident you are enjoying yours, I'm curious about battery though, 4600 mha for such a huge display could be hard on the juice

Nice review! My first Android smartphone was a Motorola Moto X somewhere in 2014/2015 and for that time the phone was killing it. Currently I'm using a OnePlus 6T for 3 years now, I almost bought the Nothing phone, had pre-ordered it but it got delayed. I reconsidered my choice and canceled my order. I want to upgrade to a phone with some decent high-end specs and no gimmicks. Very interested in this version of Motorola. Will an phone case help to avoid the touchscreen from stop responding or doing things you didn't meant to do while holding your phone on the edges?

For me i had no problems with the Edges. I use the case it comes with. Dont know how it is without.

Thank you for this review. I've just ordered my Edge 30 Ultra. Finally I get rid of my Nothing phone (gave it to my son for watching TH-cam). Would prefer a Pixel 7, but the itch to dump Nothing is so strong that I can't wait for another 3 weeks for the Pixel 7. I'll jump back to Pixel 8 next year.

Got this phone 2 days ago still getting used to it, the battery seems not to last as such, probably because I'm still loading apps and files from my old p40pro( apps did not transfer by using the cable). The display is really good, the sound is awesome.
How s battery life holding up?

The fast charger makes up for it.

How's the battery drain??
I've had no ghost touches using the phone case that it comes with. Battery drain is great, I get at least a day use out of it, I'm on 14% and it's been off charge for 28 hours. I have power saving mode set to come on at 25%, I have a smart watch attached constantly and have used it normally

@@arisgigi it's got the same main camera but lacking a lot of other specs. Plastic frame, USB 2.0 (so no video out), no wireless charging, no telephoto camera, an 8mp ultrawide instead of a 50mp one. Should be a good bit cheaper though given the weaker hardware

is this genuine stock android then or does it have a skin on it?
Recently picked up a 6 month old used one for $300aud (that's like 150 pounds).
Pretty decent all round, obviously brilliant at that price. I always thought fast charging is a gimic but it's pretty handy, and Ready For is (main reason was looking Moto or Samsung (Dex) ).
Camera hardware is good, looking at your pics though I wonder if they've gone backwards in imagine processing with Android 14, too much over sharpening and some painting effects on animals. Using Gcam one gets to see just how good the hardware is. Maybe Moto will do some tweaks when eventually it gets Android 15.

Great review man. But like I tell everybody I was like listen people keep comparing the pixel to other phones and in reality the pixels Is in its own category. Google isn't trying to make the most powerful hardware out there. Everybody's already doing that Google's using AI and machine learning and doing all kinds of things that nobody else is really doing. That's why the pixel has always been the smartest smartphone you can have and that's never going to change while everybody's trying to just make a powerful hardware Google's making their phone smarter and smarter and smarter. So to me that has its own category. What a smartphone is supposed to do. Be smart
I have this phone but after update my charger won't work. 125w charging for a while then showing "plugged in, not charging". Whats going on and how to fix it
In your reviews I'd recommend to increase the brightness of the phone a bit more, the display looks dull in most of the shots.
Getting mine tomorrow on upgrade, got a great deal that makes it a no brainer(£36 per month for 2 years with 250gb 5g data). I've given up on pixel phones, fed up with below par battery life and lagginess over time.

My pixel 6 is becoming crap since android 13 update
Not to mention the front camera on the pixel 6 had hardware issues, the software updates didn't fix it, selfies come out blurry, I only like pixels because of their still photography.
I got it cheaper for £26 pm for 2 years with 105GB GB data (I actually rarely use more than 10GB data, but that's the cheapest I found).

This looks like a Nice deal from Motorola! I like how the phone looks, the Only drawback is the curved screen, I don't understand why major Android companies have to put the curved screen on the High-End Flagship models! Otherwise, I great phone for the Price!

I started buying them for my parents at first , I decided to leave Apple. I am on my third Motorola, have never had any issues whatsoever with any of these phones they work very very well.
