In my opinion, he's one of the most honest reviewers on TH-cam, and lots of us enjoy that he's not just reviewing the expensive "big name brands". He'll call cars and trucks rubbish if they are rubbish unlike other youtubers who praise everything on their channels just for the BangGood clicks and money.
Last year, I picked up a cheapo MN-86ks because of one of his videos, and found that with a bit of work and upgrades, it's nearly as capable as my trusty SCX-10, and it looks amazing on the trails.
There's RC for everyone, and this truck might not be for you... So don't buy it.
This comment is a very good example to show that it doesn't matter what you say or what you do... someone will always find the negative lol. My humour is to much for some people haha

I have the RGT 136100V3 (outback). Broke the thing first drive just at the beach. It’s a 1/10th scale with 1/24th scale parts. Just doesn’t work.
Thanks for the warning. I'm looking for a 1/10 short wheelbase trailer/crawler chassis for a 3D printed body and had a maybe on this rig.
People talk bad about the cheaper stuff but it is how u care for it and what you do with it. My favorite has been a 60 dollar 1/12 truck that was a great basher

Honestly, it's only a little bit more than I spent on the ZP1001, and has a unique body (Landrovers everywhere...ugghhhh) and a known brand. While I really like my ZP1001, these FTX Crawlers seem quite a bit better, with more upgrades. After putting an ISDT ESC70, servo and replacing the 540 motor with a 550, I'd say I spent more on the ZP1001 than this FTX costs. Now that I know more about this hobby (thanks to you and that other guy that's a bit crazier, like a Tall roBot) I know more and am grateful.

I keep looking at the ftx brand, for a very similar price I'd highly recommend the FS Racing Jeep, got one for my boy and it's preforms really well.

About the motor, it may not be big and so on, but even those smaller 180 motors many WPLs use are impressively strong! They could break lots of parts. Believe me, I did it. 😬
Most motors used for rc are like that!

Nice. 390s are great options for smaller trucks, batteries last ages, and you are not constantly breaking things. I have one in my Smax and it is brilliant.

My old man got one of these just to pick up something cheap so he could drive his with me. It's a pretty capable little truck. Looks great, too.
Me and my lad a cracking day there. He took an ftx tracer and scx24 and a khamba. Great course and can't wait to go back.

Great video and great truck Phil. Looks like a a Land rover at the front and a Bronco at the rear. With some chunky tyres will perform well. I was looking for a crawler might give FTX a look. Need to finish my Bronco CC-02 first.

I had the 1st version and really enjoyed it, I broke the steering servo within weeks but after replacing it was fine for 6 months then I sold it.

Looks great. Was really tempted by the Paso as a spare 1/10 crawler/trail truck. Now I've seen the Treka 3 it's going to be harder to resist. I wonder if they'll update the Tundra body too?

I bought an FTX Ravine a while ago and it's unbelievably good for the price.
After going through 3 gearboxes in our Paso, I've put a 540 in it. No idea how people have run these on more than a light trail without braking it! 🤣 Apart from that it's been great, I do like the Outback chassis 👌
Oh weak point ?! Otherwise seams a good offer but not if you need to replace essential things in a short time
@@Nordlicht05 not sure really, haven't seen many have issues gearbox wise really. It's the same as all the other Outbacks I believe, replacement gears are cheap though! No metal option unfortunately...
Shame you've gone through so many! I gave the Paso quite a bit of abuse in the quarry against the SCX6.... and this Treka broke a driveshaft, which would indicate the gearbox held up okay. But as you have said, cheap enough to fix... unlike some of the more expensive rigs. Metal option would be good though!
@@TomleyRC If there was a metal option I'd be back to 390s in both our Outbacks! More than enough power and silly amounts of run time. All of the stripped gears have been the center gear, it's odd as I don't see many other problems with them!

Is RGT the same as FTX? I have an exact replica of what you called an Outback 3. Mine is called an RGT Off-road Rock Cruiser RC-4 , but they look like a Suzuki Jimny.
Yes, they are the same. FTX is the UK brand
If it's as good as the outback 2 it will be a good little crawler/trail truck it just needs better tires maybe the outback 2 wheels and tires how it the body kept on the chassis ?

@@Eddiee757 I haven't tried it I only got the outback 2 for 2 reasons 1 as I was just getting in crawlers and didn't want to spend mega bucks just incase I didn't like it (stupid of me thinking that with my RC collection) so I opted for the outback 2 and 2 it was just over £120 brand new so not to much to lose if I didn't like it as a first time crawler I was very impressed

@@Eddiee757 cool I love the outback 2 I just got the gmade Komodo gs02f built it up but haven't tried it yet I'm stuck on what colour to pain it so it will just sit there until I can decide probably 100 years from now still won't be painted lol

I have an FTX Outback Texan and I can say that FTX vehicles are pretty good vehicles if you're on a lower end budget. I am honestly not a fan of the FTX brand though and will only recommend them if you are on a lower end budget.

My first crawler was the ftx outback 3 paso, it was very capable and was going 98% the places my mates scx10 trail honcho was going. I sold mine the other night to get a trx4, but I'm unsure as I've seen the ftx fury 2.0 is coming out and I love it, but it's not out until 26th September 😭

Quite a number of my team members use the RGT Jimny, which i believe is very similar to the FTX counterpart. Your video is interesting i probably would get this RGT bronco soon. Thanks for the trail run. Yes it is capable 👍.
Another enjoyable video. I was glued to the screen all the way through. I find it most intriguing to see how an Rc vehicle's body sits when negotiating the toughest of terrains. Like you, I was convinced it would tumble on that steep bendy decent, BUT it didn't! It does, of course, depend on the driver. The first crawler I bought was the Kanyon; practising a lot with this tremendous fun. I, too, have an FTX Jimny and a Traxxas Bronco that haven't been driven yet.
Tomley, your reviews for me are like the "What Car" publication of the nineties. I'm sure many of your UK viewers will remember this magazine. We all have our opinions; just keep it polite - as Basil Fawlty would say, "Manners cost nothing, dear"!

Whereabouts was the course you were at? I don't have anything like that near me. Looks a lot of fun to do the hobby with other people.
I got into RC cars last year, and Outback 2 was my first car. After a couple of drives I realized that the stock car was actually quite rubbish; it would constantly flip over and the servo broke down. Since then I've upgraded the weight distribution, servo, electronics, changed rims to aluminum ones etc, and now the car is actually not that bad. What I definitely learned from Outback 2 is the joy of modifying the car and trying to make it better yourself. The modified Outback 2 actually starts to resemble stock Treka 3 / Outback 3 more and more.

If you watch my Outback 3 Paso unboxing, I put that next to the GEO. This Treka is the same wheelbase as the Paso 👍

Are the wheels and tires 1.9 with a 12mm hex?
They are a 12mm hex. The Paso has 1.9s so I'd imagine these will be too 👍
