    You guys should make 1 video explaining the bootleg power score and then just reference that video and say it's your signature score and you can check out this video if you want the explanation on how we get there rather than explaining it every video.
    Additionally, I would suggest normalizating the power scores between 1 and 10. This will add context to where they rank among other teams. The problem I see with it right now is that the scores range from 6 ish to 23 ish and it's hard to contextualize where a team really stands once you see their score without seeing the other scores or other videos.

    • @jackcogswell7800
      @jackcogswell7800 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      As a data professional, I also recommend normalizing the score. It looks like this is a pretty standard normal distribution, so knowing the mean and standard deviation would be a far better comparison. Most teams are average. Some excel. Some underperform. That should be the takeaway.
      Additionally, you may want to consider using a weighted average instead. Weighing the passing game equivalent to the run doesn't strike me as appropriate in the current metagame.

      @@jackcogswell7800I think what would be most appropriate is tying the weights to the percentage of offensive snaps that the league as a whole used as rushing or passing snaps (literally just add up all the carries, sacks, and targets and you're clear). If that's not good enough, you could look at the proportion of yards gained via rushing vs. passing instead, because yards might be more related to expected points than a raw count of plays. Also, hi, I'm joining the data nerd party.

      TBF a talent like Herbert get this team that 8-10 win minimal buffer. If the offense is better executed they can even *SCARE* wildcard teams in the first round. There are some oddball stats that support a healthy Herbert with a healthy Allen/Williams produces a top 8 passing offense. All while Herbert is actively being sabotaged on a weekly basis by Lombardi. Injuries to defense can change what Staley works with. But at this point I'm not really as worried about them for the regular season unless they want another 2021 season where their playoff hope hinges on a regular season show down (where Staley playing starters would BE the right move). I just don't think Staley is that coach to guide this team to January football dominance.

    You mentioned a couple times at the start about how far the Vikings stick out from where their power scores imply they should be. I actually did a little bit of digging myself to see just how unreal the Vikings were in terms of fourth-quarter heroics. Using ESPN's win probability charts, I coded up a quick simulator that could replay only the fourth quarter of each Vikings game over the course of the season, hundreds of thousands of times. In over 250,000 simulated seasons, only TWICE did the Vikings reach 13 wins. In fact, the average performance of the Vikings, based on their first three quarters of each game, was a 7-10 record (note that this is much lower than EPA would predict, since my simulator completely ignores the fourth quarter of actual games). In over 90% of simulated seasons, the Lions wind up winning the NFC North.

    If you're hyping up Max Crosby as a top five edge, then I hope you have rashawn Slater as a top three left tackle. Slaters return is the biggest impact in this division. You spent all that time on Crosby just to watch him switch sides and not face Slater this year 😂😂 Maxx owes Storm Norton a drink or two for getting him paid.

    • @t4d0W

      Maxx Crosby performing as a top 5 edge doesn't take away how Slater and the O-line can perform as a whole on pass pro. They are two absolutely different things. Some smart folks can add context as to how both can be associated. But that doesn't mean if Crosby is an absolute, then someones' Oline tackle talent is an absolute based on some far relation.

Believe it or not I had a feeling when we drafted him and then it was solidified in my mind after the denver game listening to the broncos defenders talking about him. I also felt Herbert was the real deal after watching him in his first game against us. I still feel burrow herbert and mahomes will be great for each other these next 10 to 12 seasons. Its going to be fun to watch. Personally I don't think mahomes will play anywhere close to bradys career. I won't be surprised if he hangs it up after 10 more seasons. Glad that EJ admitted in the oversight it but I was one of the many (few if even?) who were skeptical. I trust the Chiefs. Didn't trust the Hackett and overall the Broncos (though that defense performed better than I expected). Didn't trust Staley regardless of how 'honest' Chargers fans want to be. And I trusted that McDaniels' experience with the run game was gonna get Jacobs looking good. Was mildly surprised that their O-line didn't perform like hot trash despite the talents they fielded. So yeah the AFC West show will still be ran by the Chefs. Staley will probably give another uninspiring finish to the season which Spanos will still find his performance acceptable. Raiders and especially the Broncos are in it for the long haul.

    I think it's hilarious that Chiefs fans, players, and other "experts" act like everyone thought the Chiefs were going to fall off last year without Tyreek. The Chiefs had a great team and most people just said the offense wud be different because defenses cud play more than just a lot of cover 2 against them because without Tyreek teams cud play more 1 high looks. It's not like everyone didnt know the Chiefs were going to be a great team last year and I feel like the "experts" keep saying that was what happened because they want to act like they were right about something no one was really disagreeing with.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean the problem was nobody put up a good case last season as to why the Chiefs offense would actually fall off. Ironic considering part of 2021 Reid was experimenting on his 12/13 personnel. But he clearly didn't have the ideal guys to execute it properly until 2022 when the TE group got more experience, McKinnon was that nice back field receiver and Pacheco was their bowling ball. So teams that wanted to run light boxes were at the mercy of the Chiefs who were already changing their offense from a downfield one to an explosive YAC based one with Kelce being the centerpiece. Plus Mahomes has put together a body of work where he's a complete QB who can dissect matchups based on any coverage he sees.

    Too bad we dont have mr. 9-8 who was mr. 9-7 i never have had a losing season but i badly underachieved many years once i didnt have Cincinnati and Cleveland to sweep and a split or sweep from Baltimore every year. Once my predecessors team leaders retired i never sniffed another superbowl despite having ben, brown, and bell! Oh i can vomit out clichés at press conferences that the press loves to lick up and shower me with "oh he is such a great leader" or "he is one of the greatest coaches around" yet how did my super talanted teams not advance beyond divisional round in the playoffs? Then we find out brown and bell were late to meetings when they even decided to show up, rapenberger was blaming everyone but himself for the steelers failures, and yet tomlin is steel vomiting out the same shit at press conferences and instead of the press attacking him about losing control of his team like they would any other coach they give him a pass and go after the players who did whatever their daddy let them get by with and full on go after them. The minute terry bradshaw the only one who had the guts to say the king has no clothes says that tomlin had lost control of the team it was time for a change the media either laughed like bradshaw was an old man or attacked and quickly cut him off. I have never seen a coach be so incredibly mediocre 12 years after winning a superbowl with a team built by the coach before him and the media is blind to the results since then. He gets a pass every year they dont succeed its never anything thats tomlins fault its always he has never had a losing season. The steelers are at the top of the list when it comes to drafting in fact thats who most teams have tried to copy when putting that part of their front office together. Dick haley was the standard for years and the steelers still have many fromthat system. Tomlin has always had the ingredients to work with. This upcoming season the schedule outside their own division is a joke so they will win a bunch of games and all the media will be showering tomlin with praise as he vomits out virtually the same chunks of clichés with a word or 2 different here and there and ince again the media will have their mouths wide open fighting each other to catch the best chunks before they even hit the ground! Then as usual when the steelers play a real team in the playoffs and lose either the wild card game or if they are extremely lucky the divisional round. Tomlins last press conference after the loss will be how the future is bright and waitll next year vomit will flow and the press will be praising him like he is the second coming. The big mystery to me is how complacent the steeler fans have become to mediocrity! Bill cowher was beating up that division and it was horrible then and he was either getting to the afc championship game regularly or getting to a superbowl and had he nit win when he did there were rumors about his future with the team. When he got big ben he won and retired leaving tomlin the keyes to a shiny well stocked team. My mother couldve coached thos teams to a superbowl. Tomlin was showered with love and respect that really shouldve went to bill cowherd. He had strong team leaders all over that team he inherited. Soon as those leaders were gone the cracks started surfacing. There was no longer any players to stand up to rottenberger so it started with him then the "great leader" couldnt stop the cancer from spreading and the underachieveing seemed to get a little worse every year hitting its zenith the bell and brown years when all the teams in their division stunk and they still got bounced out of the playoffs after 1 or 2 games and no one questioned tomlins ability to win the big 1. He missed his window of winning with his team cause now if watson plays the way he did in houston Pittsburgh not this year perhaps will be the division whipping boy . No more 5-1, or 6-0 division records for tomlin for sure unless there are major injuries with the other teams. Mark my words Pittsburgh will not make another superbowl with tomlin he may last another 10 years maybe more before he retires but i dont think the rooneys will fire him regardless unless fans turn on him due to that stupid rule named after them. I cant stand the steelers they have had their big runs so i love watching the team win just enough to keep the fans hopeful. The marty era in kc was similar except marty was a way better coach than tomlin who never had a qb with the talent of a rottenberger like tomlin did nor did he have a bell or a brown. Think marty would of had tomlins team and its players were allowed to be late to meetings or missing meetings and marty would just look away like tomlin? Hell no they wouldve known better than to even try it. You hear tomlin is a players coach may be but probably to a fault. I windered why they were underachievers for years andcwhen the antonio brown stuff blew up and the media conveniently swept the reports of players breaking rules and tomlin looking the other way under the rug and went after the kids instead of the dad always mystified me. They wouldve never let any other coach off the hook like that. Long rant i know but tomlin needs to get treated like every other head coach. I have suspected that they have propped him up because now that tony dungy is retired he is the only other black coach with any kind of success. Which isnt fair to the other coaches.
