A masterpiece with Freddie Mercury singing without all the modern technology- no auto tune. The whole song came from Mercury’s head. This was recorded on a 24 track tape in 1975. Nobody had ever heard anything like it. Since then Queen has become an iconic band with songs you’ve heard as they have become part of the public consciousness like We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions and Another One Bites The Dust. These were 4 intellectually gifted college graduates that lived music and created some of the most memorable and eclectic albums ever. Go down the Queen rabbit hole and find the gems.
Absolutely! Freddie’s raw talent shines through without any modern technology, making the music all the more impressive. Queen's ability to innovate and create timeless classics truly cements their legacy as one of the greatest bands in history. I can't wait to explore more of their gems!
Freddie wrote this song and started working on it in college. He was a great musician composer, lyricist, singer, front man, and a generous, loyal friend to those who knew him off the stage as well as on the stage.
This song has been around for 50 years and it seems everyone has covered it. This is the best version, nobody does it like Queen. It is iconic for a good reason, as well as this being an iconic band. Back when this was recorded which was 1974 or 1975, they were using 24 track tape and literally had to sing over what they had already laid down to get the effect of a 100 voice Choir. There are as many as 180 multi-tracks to make this recording. There are only 3 singers. Brian said that when they were recording, you could see through the tape it was so full. They then laid that tape onto new tape and continued recording more and more onto it. It is not like how it is now where you can sing or play something once and the computer will multiply it, this is all individual vocal and instrumental tracks layered on top of each other. then transferred from one tape onto another. This song took a very long time to record and it was recorded in tiny bits. Nobody but Freddie had any idea what the completed song was going to sound like until it was finished. Queen has a catalog of around 200 songs so there is a lot. It is all excellent. There are a couple of songs that should be studio reactions because they are so intricate and this is one of them, March Of The Black Queen is another. Beyond that Queen is best enjoyed live because they are just exceptional. Thank you for your reaction.
Thank you for sharing such detailed insights! It’s fascinating to hear about the intricate recording process that went into creating such an iconic song. Queen’s dedication to their craft really shines through in their music, and I appreciate your recommendations for both "March of the Black Queen" and their live performances-I'll definitely keep exploring their incredible catalog!
Nice reaction. Freddie wrote this song. Itwas a number one in Britain and charted all over the world in the 70's. It has been back in the charts several times since, most notably after Freddies death in 1991. Most people carry on down the Queen rabbit hole with 'Somebody to Love' live in Montreal 1981. There is also a studio version of this song, but most people agree that Queen is better live. They have 200 songs in their catalogue and I bet you already know quite a few of them without knowing they were by Queen. Each Band member has written a number 1 hit. eg We will Rock You, We are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust.
Thank you for your comment! It’s incredible to see how Freddie’s songwriting has left such a lasting impact, especially with songs that continue to resonate today. I’ll definitely check out "Somebody to Love" live in Montreal-sounds like an amazing performance!
Thanks, guy - Yep, this song is almost FIFTY years old.. and still a genius classic....Freddie Mercury, of course.. but the entire BAND, as well - appreciate your appreciation! So glad you listened with headphones to fully get the amazing composition.. p.s. you've certainly heard parts of this song in a lot of media...
This song went diamond recently there are few songs holding this status. All the band members write song each have chart hits all were inducted to the writers hall of fame. Sadly Freddie died of Aids in 91 he continued to record and make videos till months before his death as weak as he was. I recommend Liar from the Rainbow London in 1974, each member has a solo puece so you will get a chance to see their level of talent even at the beginning. The video quality was very good. I love your generation finding them dig deep the had 14 albums as a group plus each a solo career alongside Queen. Enjoy xx
Thank you for sharing that! It's amazing to see how their legacy continues to resonate, and I appreciate the recommendation for "Liar"-it’s a great way to experience each member's talent!
No doubt others have stated this is without auto tune. The man behind Freddie at the top of the video is John Deacon. The lead guitar player, Sir Brian May, has a PHD in astrophysics. Both Freddie and the drummer, Roger Taylor had a four octave range and later, when Freddie was battling AIDS, Roger would do all the high notes for him in concert.
Absolutely! Queen’s talent was remarkable, and the dynamics between the band members really set them apart. John Deacon’s bass work, Brian May’s innovative guitar playing, and Freddie Mercury's incredible vocal range created a unique sound. It’s also heartwarming to hear how Roger Taylor stepped in during tough times for Freddie, showcasing their deep camaraderie and commitment to their music. The legacy they left is truly unmatched!
You should check out the Green Day concert in Hyde Park in 2017 singing this. 40+ years after it's release and approx 28 years after Freddie passed away 🙏. Such an amazing tribute to Freddie and Queen. 65,000 people singing in unison.
That sounds incredible! The energy of 65,000 voices coming together to honor Freddie and Queen must have been a powerful experience. I’ll definitely check out the Green Day concert-what a beautiful tribute to such an iconic legacy!
Widely regarded as the best rock song to date, For many great reasons: the scores sophistication and rhapsodic arrangement, lyrics, vocals, instrumentation....
As you can see, John Deacon (bass) sings as well. He wrote the track "ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST". Queen's live performance of this song at Wembley, in 1986 is a must!
Absolutely! John Deacon's contributions to Queen are often underrated, and his performance of "Another One Bites the Dust" at Wembley is legendary. It really showcases the band's incredible chemistry and talent live on stage! I'll definitely check that out!
John did not usually sing but was a great bass player. He also played other instruments, as did all the others. And every member of the band has written hit songs.
RIP, Freddie. He owned the stage! Freddie had four extra teeth, but he never had them removed because he didn't want to do anything that might affect his performance. I was 15 when this song came out in 1975 (yes, I'm an old lady!) and I can say that this song and the video were truly ahead of their time. This was six years before MTV was even created! Back then music videos were clips from TV shows with the band sometimes playing live, sometimes lip-synching/pretending to play their instruments. This is one of (if not *the*) first videos to be made specifically to market a song.
You will definitely want to react to more Queen... they were amazing live but they also have really good music videos. Check out the 1981 Montreal concert, 1982 at Milton Keynes and 1986 Wembley. Prepared to be blown away.
Brian May, or Sir Brian May now, the lead guitarist, is actually an astrophysicist. They were all highly intelligent guys, and great musicians. This is really a 3 act opera. The crime and remorse is act 1, ‘Mama just killed a man’, the punishment is act 2 ‘No we will not let you go’, and the anger and denial is the final act, ‘so you think you can stop me and spit in my eye’…
I always thought it was "stop me," a lyric search I did a while back shows it's "stone me." Brian is actually Dr. Sir Brian May CBE. But it's usually Sir with Brian and Doctor with May. He seems like a guy that would be fine with just Brian. Such a great and respected astrophysicist that NASA has consulted with him.
Known for incredible LIVE performances, they could bring a new fresh perspective (see this with Queen live in Montreal). This video cost about $5k and changed everything: If you were a kid in school, you memorized and sang with everyone else when it came on the radio. In the music industry, it was a game changer that helped launch MTV. For the Rock world it upended what a rock sound and lyrics could be. Maybe next check out SOMEBODY TO LOVE live in Montreal...then on to LIVE AID 1985 (global effort for faminine in Ethiopia). You might just get the fire in the belly for more!
Absolutely! That live performance really set a new standard for what concerts could be, combining stunning visuals with powerful music. It’s amazing how that moment not only transformed the music landscape but also helped define an era for rock. Checking out "Somebody to Love" and then Live Aid sounds like the perfect journey to feel that passion and energy!
You actually haven’t heard anything yet …..Freddie is considered one of the best….if not the best singer of all time by generations of people. This song has been listened to by more people than any other song. Queen has almost 300 songs ….and 20 years of hits, many are iconic songs that you will recognize. Yes ….you must continue to react to Queen, you will not be sorry….almost all of their songs are better done live than the studio releases. Just to let you know …..all four members have college degrees…..Freddie has a graphic arts degree, Brian May has a phd in astrophysics, Roger Taylor has a biology degree and John Deacon has a first class honors degree in electronic engineering. All four members have wrote number one songs and all are in the song writers hall of fame. I really liked your reaction….. and how you appreciated the greatness that you were hearing. Please react to “Somebody to Love” live in Montreal 1981. Thank you.
Thank you for your insightful comment! Freddie's talent truly is unparalleled, and it's amazing to learn about the members' impressive backgrounds and their contributions to music. I appreciate your recommendation for "Somebody to Love" live in Montreal-I'm excited to dive deeper into Queen's catalog and continue exploring their incredible legacy!
Ok...what a great song... I think it would be good to do more research on each song before you play it so we can enjoy the songs even more. I learn alot from the reaction videos that I've seen...where they check out some background and pass the info along to us and although I'm 75 I'm still learning!!! Also try to move your mike away from your mouth a bit so I can see your beautiful smile.....and you won't be muffled. Good luck to you ❤

Love that Freddie said 'one thing about music - it should never be boring!' Brilliant !!
