Old Head here... Pause away, my friend. The reason I watch reaction videos is to see newer generations feeling the joy of watching/hearing these songs from my youth for the first time. It's like I get to relive that moment through someone else's eyes over and over again.

This song is an outstanding piece of music written by Freddie Mercury. It has over 1.6 billion views here on TH-cam alone and has been a top song for nearly 50 years. I love this song and have since it was first released in the US. Thank you for your reaction.

All the members of Queen are college graduates. Roger Taylor (drummer) has a degree in biology. John Deacon (bassist) has a degree in electronics. Freddie Mercury(pianist, lead singer) had a degree in graphic art and design. Brian May (guitarist) has a PhD in astrophysics, he has consulted with NASA.

When a crowd of people who were mostly no older than my daughter knows every single word of this song and actually work together to get all of the parts right, it's a testament to how relevant Queen still is 50 years later. I really believe it's infiltrating our DNA at this point.

This song is brilliant. The “four heads” a cappella intro is only lead singer Freddie singing all harmonies which were layered together. The operatic section was three guys whose vocals were layered about 180 times to create the choral effect. Four instruments, three voices and a gong. 1975 !!!

In classical music, a rhapsody is a piece of music with 3 or more parts. Freddy composed this piece out of 3 songs that he had been working on and added an intro and outro tying it together. In the Live Aid concert, each band had exactly 21 minutes and then they were cut off, so Queen tailored their show.

Everyone comments about Freddy being an amazing singer & a fantastic showman, he most definitely was, but everyone seems to forget how much of a brilliant composer he was along with the band of course. I honestly think he will go down as one of the greatest composers music has ever produced along with the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mozart, Beethoven etc
Even though this song is several songs combined, the composition & lyrics are nothing short of Genius, its a timeless piece, something that can, does & will resonate with people for centuries to come

No autotune in those days. It was a rock opera, very unusual at the time, and initially not well received because DJ's wouldn't play it because of the length. Over time it has become a masterpiece. Brian May is a guitar genius.

The best ever selling song, the longest on the charts over and over again, until this day, 49 years later. Freddie Mercury was a pur musical genius. And the best vocals in the last century. Yeas, century. Or as long as it’s been counted. Peace out.

Youre absolutely right. Tommy, by the Who was released in ‘69. I totally forgot :-/

    • @elstongunn4277
      @elstongunn4277 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mrad3482 I know what you mean; Bohemian Rhapsody is much more pleasant to the ear than “Tommy.” Plus, “Tommy” lasted for how long? It seemed like hours. I remember thinking it was quite dark and disturbing in some areas. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to it all the way through.
On some levels, Tommy and BR ALMOST seem to tell the story of The Hero’s Journey. I’ll have to review Tommy to listen to all of the elements, but I think it does. BR seems to, as well, albeit on a much smaller scale. Not an uncommon theme in many songs, poems, and movies, as I’m sure you are aware. :).
      Nice discussing this with you.

They could perform everything from hard rock/opera in this song, pop in Somebody to Love, to the first thrash metal song i ever heard in Stone Cold Crazy. You nailed it. Freddie had 3 separate songs in 68 to 70. He put all 3 songs together for this song and it came out in 75. I remember listening to it when I was in junior high in 75. I have loved it ever since then.

“I remember Freddie coming in with loads of bits of paper from his dad’s work, like Post-it notes, and pounding on the piano,” May said in 2008. “He played the piano like most people play the drums. And this song he had was full of gaps where he explained that something operatic would happen here and so on. He’d worked out the harmonies in his head.”

Excellent reaction! Your journey down the Queen path cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody. In fact, your journey into great MUSIC of the past cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody!
Bohemian Rhapsody, was released in 1975 on the album "A Night at the Opera" which gives a hint as to the musical genre. Freddie Mercury was a huge fan of opera so this song was written as an operatic suite consisting of five distinct parts: an acapella intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock section, and a reflective coda. Generally it is classified as rock-and-roll, but specifically as a "rock opera" and "progressive rock." Truth is, labeling any Queen song, or Queen the band, is next to impossible!
"Bohemian" describes an unconventional, artistic style with freedom and individuality as key elements. "Rhapsody" in musical composition refers to a single work comprised of episodic, diverse pieces arranged into a free-flowing structure designed to heighten emotions. This song came to be because Freddie had pieces of songs he never completed, so he put them together, each section totally different yet masterfully blended into a truly epic masterpiece. It is the band's magnum opus, and is unanimously considered one of the best songs ever written.
As for the meaning of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie was purposefully vague. As with most of the greatest songs, the lyrics are written to be poetic and mysterious. Are they literal or figurative? As separate pieces initially, should the song have a singular meaning? Who knows! The meaning is open to interpretation for each listener to decide, based on how the music and lyrics touched them. You will read comments claiming the song's meaning, but the fact is, the entire band has never stating a specific meaning and has been firm that there isn't one, or if Freddie DID have a specific interpretation, he never shared it. Any assertion of the meaning pertaining to Freddie's sexuality are speculative and because certain groups WANT that to be the meaning.

There's a huge debate on what this song is actually about. People seem to think every song needs to be "interpreted," but in this case, my guess would be to take it literally. If you think about it, it's laid right out there. The confession and trial (was he sentenced to execution, hence the "I don't want to die"?), appeal, anger, then acceptance. It just makes the most sense to me. I could be wrong. Some think that it's about his AIDS and coming death, which is impossible. The song was released in 1975 and AIDS wasn't around until the mid 80's. What I think everyone can agree upon is the fact that taking 3 songs that he couldn't finish and mashing them together to actually mean something takes an absolutely brilliant mind.

First, he commits a crime and knows he has to turn himself in

Third: he escapes “just got to get right out of here
Then the final part where be accepts fate: nothing really matters.
