Three things I learnt from this: Killer Instinct is the most culturally diverse fighting game out there, Mick Gordon is a magician and metal makes everything better.
lol i don't know I think tekken holds that title. zafina(egypt i think), miguel(spain), dr. Boskonovitch(russia), eddy gordo(Brazil), katarina(south america), wang(china), asuka(japan), lili(france), shaheen(middle east), leo(german), king(mexico), baek (korea), julia chan(chinese and native american), steve(Australia) Most of these characters speak the language of the culture they hail from.
classicblue they probably have the most variety when it comes to different countries, but Killer Instinct defenitely is more "cultural". An ancient babylonian sorcerer, an ancient greek war golem, a shaolin monk, a native american..
Culture is culture. especially since like I said most of the characters in Tekken speak their native language. Not like in ki or street fighter or any other fighting game.
There's something about 4:24 - 5:31 that I just love. Can't describe it. It's the Mediterranean feel. It's the harmony. Perhaps it's the texture of the whole thing overall.
Years later, I still find this to be Mick's most inspiring track, Aganos' devotion through time, battle, hardship and pain is touching in a way words can hardly express.
For me it, s a masterpiece. Hes playing frigian mode in D but it does in a way doesn, t sound flamenco at all: just "mediterranean". So it has this like melancolic feeling yet incredibly angry and power full.
feels like a god is walking into the mortal plane ready to expel it's daunting might in order to face and protect it's creation from the fark forces it's been battling since the creation of the universe. It's power is overwhelming but so is the evil that plagues the souls of mortals. But it will win, it will protect the darkness from every taking form.
Its exactly the kind of thing i imagined. A guardian standing on a cliffside, overviewing a forest. This part plays, as the guardian gives an almighty roar that can be heard for miles...
4:24 PoV: You finally nailed that Kan-Ra that's been zoning you out the entire match, sending him crashing through at least 3 walls and winning the match.
“So there’s this character. He’s an ancient war golem that became sentient. You don’t have to go too crazy for his theme.” Mick: “Alright. I’ll need a quire of people who can speak Greek.”
This track is amazing. I feel the presence of an object of war, something supposed to embody fear and intmidation as you look at it's makeshift body worn down after decades and decades. But yet, in the track, specifically 2:12 and 4:24, theres this very emotional side, a side that is gentle and only wishes to protect. It's a wonderful contrast that just brings a whole layer of depth to the character. This track is not only epic, its also beautiful...
The choir of this song, the vocals of Hinnamatoom, the huge Spinal collab, all these examples and more make me wish there were any kind of behind the scenes. So much dedication was put into this whole sountrack, its incredible. Amazing work, Mick!.
I based a one shot on Aganos for D&D. It was about a mysterious Golem emerging from the sea then bulldozed like several towns to get to a lost temple. Inside was a Mummy Lord and the party had to either stop the Golem or see what it was doing. The party learned from it movement that it was deliberate. So they followed. After they were jumped by enemies outside of their level. The party heard this music track. Then after decimating the villains at the gates. The party followed the Golem. That was until they reached the final boss room. The Mummy Lord had a trick up its sleeve. It stunned the Golem and the party had to solve a puzzle to get its help back. The Fighter figured it out, and unleashed the Golem. Centuries of searching and pain. The Golem Bodied the Mummy Lord and the party rejoiced in the Golem getting the last laugh. The last thing they see of it, was the Golem returning to sea to become Vigilant of a Lost Kingdom.
This shit is so hype. When KI was announced at E3 2013, I shed a tear, knowing that one of my biggest childhood memories was returning. I really love your work in Killer Instinct ONE, greetings from France :D
Mick, I really want to thank you for making such incredible music for not only KI, but all of your other projects as well (your score made Wolfenstein what it is to me). You've helped elevate this franchise to a whole other level and I can't tell you just how much I appreciate it. Keep up the awesome work, you're a master of your art. P.S. your official edits are dope and make mine sound like trash by comparison.
Dan Forden did a really good job with the MKX music. His MK9 music was lacking because it was all remade versions of classic MK arena themes, and of course he can't top his original works. How did he think it would be a good idea to remake the Subway theme?
But I do think Dan Forden should try to be a little more stylistically like this... His music sometimes still sounds dated with the exception of his inclusion of electric guitar. Some of it sounds like it could have easily been included in MK3. Even his guitar stuff isn't very heavy. He probably needs better recording and mixing, heavier electronics so that he sounds more like this, etc
+Charlie Foxtrot You want a collaboration for the ages? Mick Gordon and Daisuke Ishiwatari (the composer of the Guilty Gear OSTs). I think the world would just explode due to not being able to handle so much awesomeness.
@Shizeeg Unadequatov Honestly, hard call for me. Kan-Ra's theme is something that I want to play a wargame located in the desert with, whether it is the WT N. Africa event going on at the time of posting, or maybe a map in Wargame, Kan-Ra's theme is great with any sort of desert warfare. That said, as much as I don't like TJ Combo as a character, his theme is really good for getting pumped. Then there is the main theme. That main theme! I mean, even with having played 28 hours, I sometimes start up the game with the intention to play and I just enjoy the theme and background images until it slows down. Sabrewulf's theme seems weak by itself, but after playing the Sabrewulf story (well, 2 of the endings) its uniqueness seems fitting. It seems the least battle appropriate, but one of the most character appropriate pieces (as opposed to Cinder's theme, which is great but does feel a touch generic). ARIA's theme as a whole I don't like that much, but it definitely seems to make for the most dramatic entrance of all the characters. Hisako's theme reminds me of a very famous hard rock song that I can't think of the name of, probably some Rammstein piece. Still, could be Macbeth or even a US band. Then there are just so many others... I mean, it would be easier to list the ones I don't like. Mostly Orchid's theme and Cinder's. And Sadira's doesn't seem to live up to the character.
I really like the moment from 2:22 to 2:45, because I may not have understood correctly what this technique is called, but it is at this moment that you can hear slightly mythical notes in the background, it feels like a choir or something similar, Thanks to Mick Gordon for such a MASTERPIECE! soundtrack, I found it by accident, and I'm still glad that I found it)))
Polemos is the name of the Greek embodiment of war, it makes sense seeing how Aganos's main function was a weapon for war, which this theme captures brilliantly but also it could suggest that Aganos is willing to go to war if it means the destruction of the mad sorcerer Kan Ra.
Best theme of S2 so far in my honest opinion everything about it screams epic from start to finish. The whole score is telling a story of war and sadness and ultimately victory. Mr Gordon we salute you
It would be an interesting matchup. At first glance Kratos would easily win with his overwhelming strength, arsenal of weapons, magical abilities, brutal fighting style and absolute refusal to stay down. But on second thought, Aganos could be just as strong (irdk), could keep him in his toes with his earthbending abilities (yes, it's earthbending). Also, Aganos has a lot more fighting experience, having been alive for 3000+ years and it is also hinted that he can't die before completing the dying wish of the King of Babylon (killing Kan-Ra), hence why he reformes his body everytime he's about to die.
God DAMN Mick you are frighteningly good at this stuff. There is so much impact and power in your tracks, especially in this one. If I ever get training again I need to use this to pump me up, because I swear I could do anything to it. Hell they all give me that same feeling, it's just brutal. Thank for what you've given us Mr. Gordon.

What amazes me about KI/KI3, people say it sucks. But in reality, they don't know what the hell they are talking about. And they ALWAYS bring the argument of the dumbed down home versions of the previous games, having NEVER played the arcade versions, into the argument. They don't know the masterpiece they are missing out on. Mick Gordon has done a hell of a job on this game's music!! This track is just an example of how badass he is!! The styles of the music is consistent with previous installments and even manage to include cultural influences for certain characters. CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 3!!
Lyrics: Μάχη, Πόλεμος, Νίκη, Πόνος, Δίκη, Πόλεμος, Τρόμος παντού From the other thread it translates to: Battle, War, Victory, Pain, Justice, War, Fear everywhere
One of the best pieces of music ever made. Fact. It doesn't matter if it's for a videogame because this is worthy of the biggest budget film there could be! I'm an amateur writer and when there's a big battle scene I always turn this on and crank it up and when I read back what I've written I'm always damn happy with it! Thanks for the inspiration!
The gods were getting married. One after another, they all got hitched, until finally it was time for Polemos (War) to draw his lot, the last of the bachelors. Hybris (Reckless Pride) became his wife, since she was the only one left without a husband. They say Polemos loved Hybris with such abandon that he still follows her everywhere she goes. So do not ever allow Hybris to come upon the nations or cities of mankind, smiling fondly at the crowds, because Polemos (War) will be coming right behind her.
I have a feeling this song will make it on one of those ''EPIC BATTLE MUSIC OF ALL TIMES'' Playlist. Its that good :P watch it X-Ray Dog, Micks on a KI rampage!
I love it. Perfect marriage of lost antiquity, unstoppable determination, and monolithic menace, yet still keeping in with the adrenaline-filled needs of the game. Really wish this sort of music were more common.
Oh. My. God...I've been waiting for the day Aganos' theme goes up on TH-cam and I gotta say that it's almost infinitely better than every other theme COMBINED! Maybe even more so than Kan-ra who, up until today, had the best theme in my opinion.
This. Song. Is. Perfect. You allow me to be creative beneath the shadow of this music. From below, I shall rise. Your penance will be given soon, Mr Gordon. You will be paid in pure gratitude.
It's amazing how all those voices seem to combine into one powerful sound, and it's oddly heartwarming and badass at the same time knowing exactly who those voices are. :D
Well the guys definitely have accent. Nevertheless I am proud that my language is a part of KI and was respected and represented in such a beautiful way. A big thank you wish more take your example.
with this song, i train MMA 3 times a week + 1 body pump and 1 boxing, when im tired i listen to this just to remember life is war and it delivers some massaging goosebumps through my spine and i scream in rage. nonetheless, at night i sleep with my Teddy bear.
This is EASILY in my top three for favorite songs. I once listened to this ALL DAY long, not a care in the world. It's such a powerfully intense song that I could listen to it during anything: cleaning, dancing, riding my bike, working, writing a friendly email... I'm sure you all get it. Mick Gordon did an AMAZING job on this!

Δίκη, Πόλεμος, Τρόμος παντού
From the other thread it translates to:
Battle, War, Victory, Pain,
Justice, War, Fear everywhere
This is so epic. I pray to Mick Gordon every night before bed.
A full season later and Aganos is still my favorite character and has my favorite theme in Killer Instinct.
Elias Walston Palacios Ikr, although spinal and his theme are my top fav, aganos and his theme are definitely a close second or third.
Μάχη, Πόλεμος, Νίκη, Πόνος, Δίκη, Πόλεμος, Τρόμος παντού
mákhē pólemos níkē pónos díkē pólemos trómos pantoú
Battle, War, Victory, Pain,Justice, War, Fear everywhere
Its that good :P
watch it X-Ray Dog, Micks on a KI rampage!
Chimi smells.
Just Imagine a 15 foot golem entering a battlefield to this music
aganos is somewhere above ~8ft
Дмитрий Горецкий ok I don’t see how that has anything to do with it original comment.. fun fact besides that.
Should be scary and freakn awesome !!!
Kan-Ra: "Why do I suddenly hear boss mus - OH NO!"
Or an Ultramarine....
4:24 Goosebumps everywhere! :O
😌
This is my favorite theme from this game. I find the presentation of it spot on and it's impressive that it took 461 recordings to make up the choir.
Mick Gordon your killer instinct soundtrack has become my workout playlist for almost a year now.
Hope you release an official album someday
461 people. This song has 461 people singing. Mick Gordon sir, his genius is a gift to the world. Ty
CHAOS MARINE SPOTTED
I guess you can say this song is pretty rock solid
My 8 years old's favourite song. 10/15k plays of this video is his doing. Starting to grow on me :)
The epicness of this track... it's so powerful!! It's been a long time since any kind of music was able to give me chills all over my body.
Badass song with a badass character, they did Aganos theme so goddamn good!
You haven’t felt true pain till you’ve been curb stomped by a literal rock
I like Spinal's a bit better. I really want to hear Cinder's when he comes out.
WHEN'S CINDER XD Spinal's theme was the first one I thought was the best. Then it was Kan-Ra...and now it's Aggy.
They said (s)he was coming out in April. Then I gotta listen to Kan-Ra's theme now...
Kan-Ra's theme is like gigantic contrast to this one, but during the idle bit, both of them kinda sound alike...
Inkwell Obsidia Aggy and Tj theme is my favorite so good
Have you all tried peeing to this?
It feels like a cross between being a work of living art and dousing the ashes of your enemy.
I love this theme. One of my favorites this season. It makes me wanna play everytime I hear it
he don't miss bro, he just don't miss
Mick Gordon, you handsome monster of a composer, you're amazing, I love your music, keep it up.
every time I hear this theme it never get old to me
Man, what an amazing song. Mick really is in a league of his own compositionally speaking.
Such a fantastic build up throughtout, heading towards the climatic hook that kicks in around the 4min mark. Gives me an uncontrollable shudder.
It's basically a robot with a soul.
This track definitely gets the point across.
Aganos is a golem, built for one purpose and one purpose only. To crush, kill and destory its enemies.
a masterpiece. Mick is really a modern day mozart.
Mick i have to say because of you Killer Instinct is one of the most hardcore games I've ever played
Godlike is the only word that can describe this.
This. Song. Is. Perfect. You allow me to be creative beneath the shadow of this music. From below, I shall rise. Your penance will be given soon, Mr Gordon. You will be paid in pure gratitude.
I love this song Mick. It's a good contrast to Kan-Ra's theme. Oh my god, I'm so ready for an Xbox One right now..........I NEED THIS GAME!!!!!!
It's amazing how all those voices seem to combine into one powerful sound, and it's oddly heartwarming and badass at the same time knowing exactly who those voices are. :D
Only good thing about 2020 is that Killer Instinct will be back at EVO and new people can learn how amazing the game and its soundtrack is!
Well the guys definitely have accent. Nevertheless I am proud that my language is a part of KI and was respected and represented in such a beautiful way. A big thank you wish more take your example.
My EARS! this is just too f** powerful! i can imagine listen to a fight between aganos and Kan-ra! holy *** i love this track.
the best of S2 Theme's
Mick Gordon is giving me LIFE with this theme. Great job !
Battle. War. Victory. Pain. Trial. War. Terror everywhere.
Its... Its TOO GODLIKE!!!!! You are a musical God!!!!
Can anyone tell me about artists that make music similar to Mick Gordon's music ? or songs similar to Polemos please ?
i would say "symphony x", progressive/melodic metal, it shares some attibutes with its kind of ki theme
Fleshgod apocalypse (best album is "agony" by a long shot tbh) if you want the symphonic angle. Meshuggah if you want the groooovyness.
Fantastic song.
Panos Kolias and I share the same first and last name.
I'm glad someone with that name made it.
with this song, i train MMA 3 times a week + 1 body pump and 1 boxing, when im tired i listen to this just to remember life is war and it delivers some massaging goosebumps through my spine and i scream in rage.
nonetheless, at night i sleep with my Teddy bear.
Thanks Mick loving the theme
come on dude, this is hugee😭😭😭😭♥♥♥♥♥♥
This is EASILY in my top three for favorite songs. I once listened to this ALL DAY long, not a care in the world. It's such a powerfully intense song that I could listen to it during anything: cleaning, dancing, riding my bike, working, writing a friendly email... I'm sure you all get it. Mick Gordon did an AMAZING job on this!
