This game allows for ultimate freedom of expression and allows you to combo everything into everything else. It's so bold and radical. It was in the 90s and it remains till date.
There is nothing like this game - and fighting games will forever owe a great deal to this legendary "franchise" of just 3 games - 3 were more than enough to cement its place in the annals of fighting game history.

I think the only real challenge that future installments of this game face is that KI 2013 is just so good - where do they go from here ? How can they improve something so unique and near perfect ?

Yeah man, their art and animation department has been awesome but their writing and music staff are underwhelming lately. At least in the early MK games, the music was still memorable. MK11 is the epitome of lazy, convoluted writing and half-assed musical scores. The music in MK11 almost feels like a bootleg version of the Avengers theme at times. Come to think of it, MK: Aftermath is also like a lazy writer's version of Endgame.

5:44 is my favorite character select theme ever. It’s not that complicated, but it’s a powerful, hard-hitting remix of a classic perfect for the modern age of KI. It’s gotten me pumped every match for years.
I'm 3 years late but just realized that Matt McMuscles uses it for his transitions, always assumed it was a wrestling theme.
100% agreed. I can remember it from the Arcades, with FIGHT ON blaring out of the cabinet.

The Killer Instinct drop at 3:55 hit me so unexpected, I actually had tears in my eyes. I was so not prepared for this.
The game, music, and characters all reflect the human condition so beautifully. Every day is a battle for our very spirit, between our better and our crueler natures, and there is no guarantee which will win, we just have to keep fighting. Ourselves, the mistakes of others, our past, and for everyone's future.
I'm on the verge of tears just writing this.
But the characters each are powerful, profound representations. ARIA, for example, represents the state: a constructed entity meant to "protect humanity." However, the vagueness of its directives often leads to collective safety at the expense of human rights.

The guy doesn't deserve enough credit for being the tone chameleon that he is. He's not some boring djent guy. This cat morphs to fit into exactly the space he's going into.
Let's be real here: the music and voiceovers during the fighting and even the menus is what makes this game such a spectacle to watch and hear.
What a way to find out you were the composer for DOOM 4. I was listening to the DOOM track and I wanted to listen to this afterwards because I thought it sounded like your work. You should hear his work for the Wolfenstein: The New Order soundtrack. 'specially "The New Order", "Herr Fraust", "Prototype", and "The Partisan". They're beautiful.

Even after years this game still holds up really well and the soundtrack is a big reason thank you for making this happen.
And now, this Fall, big major update for KI as first revealed at EVO last week! It's so nice to see KI community still alive and kicking even after so many years!
Killer Instinct 2013 was one of the first games (if not THE fist) I ever played where I would turn on the game, and leave it at the menu to let the song continue playing (and loop).

This music is the reason why I played the original killer instinct the very first time I ever played it it came on while I was walking by the original killer instinct cabinet in my local arcade I was drawn to it like a moth to the flame and if I had never had that experience and was walking by somebody about to play the new ki and heard this music it would still have the same effect you have done a wondrous job with both enhancing the musicality of the peace while still keeping its original feel and intensity mad respect given

The original version was one of the pieces of music that made me pick up the guitar and one of the first pieces I taught myself. Your updated version is still in 2023 a wonderfully faithful homage that does not disappoint!
The build-up to 3:55 is nothing short of absolute amazing genius. The feeling I got as everything built up to the announcer saying "Killer Instinct", followed by the music becoming even more intense, went beyond just shivers down my spine. Amazing work, Mick! Can't wait to own the soundtrack!

This is 2021, and still this song does not fade away from my music list to hear and rock your day. This is one of the masterpiece that I hear in my entire life.
The fact that I’m even using Killer Instinct and Mick Gordon in the same sentence proves that there is a God.
You know, prior to 2016 I had not even heard of this series. To find it randomly, in the windows game store and then later across multiple platforms I've made it a point to get as many people as possible to experience this masterpiece of a title. The combat so fluid, but with the soundtrack...God, Mick you went above and beyond with the tracks. Don't ever stop being the god send of music you are. You're what ties together a great experience and elevates it to a completely new level!

2014, made good use of a well payed job to go to EVO (from Argentina, so quite a trip). I remember entering the room, lights were low and this started to play at full volume. Unlimited goosebumps! One of my best memories from the trip and the real moment when I felt the money was well spent. Thank you Mick for that experience.

I remember watching the E3 where this game was revealed, and as a person who had never heard of KI before, I knew based on the small snip bit of this song I heard that the music of this game was gonna be special, and I'm glad I was right, Mick did an amazing job!
