Hey, first off thanks very much for doing this review. I was about to pass by as there was a fair amount of preamble and talking about the unit before the actual playing. And then I heard you play the Brains! Obviously, you are a great musician, your breakdown of the module is very much appreciated. Play more!
Just got one these digital oscillators and the Behringer GO dual 140 HP case . It really sounds great and it's price point is amazing. This was a very good demo. Thank you so much !
Great video. Thanks for spending so much time to go through all the features. Something many TH-camrs don't really dwell on. Now let's have a video for (B) Abacus and (B) Victor .... Subbed!
Probably the synth that makes the most value sense for someone who wants to get the Mutable Instruments code in non-Euro non-DIY hardware form with lots of controls.
Buenas tardes! Excelente demostración! Quisiera hacerte una pregunta, las salidas CV y gate del arturia keystep 37, en que modulo las conectas? por que veo que recibe info del secuencer y a la vez recibe entrada de CV del keystep! Gracias!!! Saludos!
I actually kinda dig the psycho rain starting at 28:05. Modal Strings was actually more like a gong sound, which is more like a modal plate, but so what, that's pretty nifty.
Hallo Paolo, herzliche 💘grüße aus Deutschland. I love and appreciate your videos! You play with your lfo, for me often, you set it to fast, and the tone goes wouwouwou.... Fluttering. This makes Tones unplayable in a Musical context. So for me I love to Set the lfo extremly slow and slightly. The sounds change starts to live and I know, you know what you do, this is just a little hint, just try it out!
Hi Paolo, many thanks for the perfect demo and overview!!! I am now a very happy owner of the Brains, even after months of waiting… :-) What me absolutely irritated was, that "all" pots were in the left position, just like in the first seconds of your Video and I just couldn't play the module chromatically in my Eurorack… Until I came up with the idea of positioning the little FM Pot in the middle position, as I seen in your video while you playing it via the Keystep. Maybe I'm too old or stupid, but there was absolutely no reference to it in the manual! And why have this pot no middle position for correct CV-Tracking? Only by ear? Actually, it's the wrong position of the pot on the front panel, isn't it? How do I restore the correct chromatic control when twisting? Kinda funny...
Thank you, HPS, yeah, with modular analog equipment, a lot of times one has to go by ear. The famous solo by Herbie Hancock in "Chameleon" comes to mind, where had "tweaked" the Tuning knob of the Odyssey during the solo (to achieve pitch-bending effect) and then he couldn't exactly place back in the same position - hence the solo sounded slightly out of pitch for the rest of it. It's imperfect, but it also has a charm to it. If perfect pitch needs to be had for the performance, I think it's best to not tweak the knobs, or use a synth that allows digital control / recall of the parameters.
midi/usb to cv,2x brains,1x analog osc,dreadbox 3 in1 filter/mixer/amp, behringer dual envelope. = under 1k...starts to an amazing synth? thinking main functions of filter and amp envelope to start with.or lol just wait few months and get the jt 4000 :}
I know, it sounds like they could've called it "Reeds" or "1960s idea of what a computer sounds like when it's calculating". The Additive waveform could've been called "Lectric Shaver" and I'd have believed it. FM had some cool timbres, and I'm waiting to hear Karplus. I definitely don't need this, but it's interesting to hear some sounds. Okay, Karplus could've been better. Rain and Dust sounded more granular than Grains. That's weird.
it's Plaits, but runs at 96khz, has several new additional synth engines, and a custom implementation of the karplus-strong engine. The little OLED display is a nice touch as well.
Pretty normal. You also have to take into consideration production, distribution, etc. While the whole thing is happening so the hardware can be distributed, of course they're still working on the firmware. Many games also receive day 1 patches/updates, for instance.
For what it's worth, I just got mine from Thomann today and it came with the latest firmware. But yeah, as the other guy said, this is pretty normal, as it can take a long time for any particular unit to make it through production and logistics before reaching a customer, and new firmware coming out shortly after a product launch is super common as the vendor continues development of the product and smashing bugs/etc.
NO WAY this guy only has 140K subscribers!

I'm glad you enjoyed the playing, thanks for watching!
You are a true master. Thank you for all your videos!
So nice of you
Always waiting for your next video. Keep them coming.
Wasn't really interested until I heard the waves and wind sounds! I definitely have a use for those!

Great to hear!
Thanks for the extensive video, bro
Really great video thank you :)
Posted one second ago, nice. Excited to hear this one!

Glad it was helpful!
Thiswill be my next purchase rather than the Plaits which costs twice as much! thank you for this demonstration.
Awesome demo, thanks!
Same sound architecture found in the MicroFreak!
Probably the synth that makes the most value sense for someone who wants to get the Mutable Instruments code in non-Euro non-DIY hardware form with lots of controls.
My car have the same four round wheels like another.
Microfreak is the stand alone version with some further functions..... but I love the brains with my modular
Thanks for the video! Overall, it sounds pretty great. Something funky with that Karplus strong. Not what I would expect.

thanks for that demo ;)
At that price point, I'm imagining the possibilities of running 4 at once with a nice poly midi/cv and some sort of vector mixer....binary bliss. 😊
Pretty damn fresh 👍
Great demo. Brains definitely has a lot of options. Also sounds a bit dirtier. I can see the appeal of this module. But, I love my Plaits.
Nice demo! :)
An you explain this set up ? How the arturia is conected to what module ? Plss
I love the Circuit Slices Envelope Gen's.
The latter third of this video sounds like my time at university using a Kyma system. Should have saved my money and waited for the Behringer lol

Show esse equipment
tinnitus inducing
dont you rekon 'grains' should sound grainy? i do

Its a Braids,Plaits from Mutable,less expensive ,no?

Its brand new and does not come with the latest firmware???
