    This is an OUTSTANDING video. I use another DAW, but I need to keep Pro Tools in the mix for certain clients. GREAT stuff! I am now subscribed...

    I started working with newer clients that punch in and want to take the best of each take. I'm used to clients that usually do things in one take or do whole takes, so this saved my tail for making the most of studio time. Thanks!

    Great video! Honestly the playlist workflow is a bit of a pain in the ass and most explanations / tutorials I've found just convolute things further. This was a very straight forward crash course and super helpful. Thank you!

      P.S. I do the same thing with 'Backup' and 'Junk' tracks but I call them 'Source' and 'Chump' tracks haha ; And I've also only found that useful with dialogue / VO / post production. Cheers

      Ha "chump"! Changing my template now! Yeah in this video I used my post template. I don't use those playlists in my music template. Not sure it's as useful.

    Super useful video. Thanks so much. i'm just starting post work on a small movie, and trying to organize workflow. I would LOVE to see a video on the uses of playlists for alternate takes and different processing ideas. I think I'm only scratching the surface of their uses. Great video!

    • @AdamClairmont
      @AdamClairmont  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing that's helpful to me is using a backup playlist so I can always return to the editors cut, and a "junk" playlist so I can screw around with processing or grabbing room tone etc.

    Can you talk about how you can have one audio track as a priority track (I guess it’s called), and then have all different takes beneath that as you have explained here. And then you can choose bits and parts of these takes and push a button and it goes directly up to the priority track and gets insert in the time when it was taken.
    I truly hope you understand what I mean. It’s really hard to explain I think.

    Coming from logic and to base is there no way to just record over an existing take without having to manually create a playlist every time? I know there’s a loop mode that automatically does it but I’m just looking for a way to just be able to record normally and not think about having to manually create the playlist

    Thanks Adam, Very helpful video . I am a keyboard player. When I duplicate my playlist the sustain pedal stays with the duplicated playlist. When I erase and record on that duplicated playlist the sustain pedal (controller) remains . Do you know how I can duplicate a playlist with having the controller effect being duplicated? thanks for your help if you can.

    Is there a way to have a single punch in automatically go to it's own play list in logic? in Logic, every time you punch in, it puts that take on its own playlist?

    • @tothrec
      @tothrec ปีที่แล้ว

      Pro Tools is the only DAW I know of that does not just automatically create a new take lane (Playlist). Why it assumes I want to blow away the previous take is beyond me...

    • @andyanderson398
      @andyanderson398 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tothrec Actually Pro Tools does do that- under preferences- you can set it up to create a new playlist on loop recording everytime it loops.

    • @tothrec
      @tothrec ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andyanderson398 thanks, but I was looking for a new Playlist even when I'm not looping. I currently have to remember to hit Start Backslash.

    I don't know what a playlist is wish you would have explained it to me. BTW I have taken 4 semesters of protools education and playlists were never spoken of.

    • @HubLocationSound
      @HubLocationSound 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A playlist is a sub-Track (or think of it as virtual layers of audio) within a Track. So for example if you’re recording 5 takes of a vocal, you can do that using one Track, by creating a new playlist for each vocal pass. Each take or “playlist” can be viewed by choosing that Tracks ‘playlist’ view (right click on track name). From there you can audition each playlist and ‘comp’ a vocal take (ie. Choose the best phrases from your 5 takes and ‘promote’ them UP to the Main playlist (Top layer). 3:38

  • @flamindigo
    @flamindigo ปีที่แล้ว

    the last bit about the playlist didn't make any sense. it went too fast and was very vague.
    There was enough other good stuff in the video to get a thumb up.

  • @nafawi7965
    @nafawi7965 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if I want to delete some of the playlist lanes and the recordings there...or flatten to the target playlist?
