    In this video, Lloyd covers one of the main mistakes that stops you from being able to centre your one foot spins on ice. This is specifically when entering the spins from the forward outside edge.
    A nice fast spin that doesn't travel along the ice is a very impressive move to do. Not being able to centre the spin correctly will unfortunately ruin it. Try the tips in the video, and let us know in the comments below if it helps your spins.

    I feel so attacked right now, haha, the "this is not how you do it" is exactly how my spins are. Thank you for explaining how to correct it! Genuinely appreciate these videos!

      It's worse when the skating teachers are like that in real life and I'm an adult. This one lady is a complete bitch about it that I had to write the director to complain how bad she makes me feel every lesson.

    this is the best demonstration that i could find on TH-cam. not only the video explained clearly but also showed the correct posture to enter a stable spin. I finally did my first spin today thanks to your help. Really appreciate your tutorial and thank you.

    I passed Level 1 elements years ago and can now do spins including change for camels and flying camel. But I never managed to get a well-centred upright spin - despite having had several coaches look at it.
    Your video was really, really good and has put me on the path to a much, much better upright. Thank you!

      So then none of your coaches taught you these basic, essential, and obvious techniques. Now why do you think that is? I have observed that the quality of ice instruction is very low. It seems intentional. Like the longer you take to learn the more money they can sponge off you.

    Used to stay open for a loooong time before pulling into a backspin. 150+ revs consistently. The longer you wait, the better for sure. These videos are cool, I’m a USFS gold medalist in Free skate and moves in the field but I do enjoy watching these videos!

      I have counted Dorothy Hamill at 40 revs, and Ronnie Robertson at 50 revs. Frankly I find 150 revs hard to believe. Can you provide a video?

    It also depends on the shape and curvature (or the lack of) of your spinning rocker. I have CA Lites. It was a hard adjustment from the Aspire XP blades because I didn’t have to point my toes downwards before. I have to fight my brain and make it remember that my sweet spot is no longer further back my blades… which was and still is a bit annoying…
    I should have gone for the Matrix Legacy blades… 🤦🏻‍♀️

    My coach always gives me advice such as you should swing around your free leg and hold it in that position for a few revolutions. But how could I possibly do that, if I only had a quarter of a pizza to wing around? I’ve struggled with my one foot spin for months now. It was only now that I noticed my right arm is in front of my free leg and not in line with it. Hopefully this will help

    Kind of a dumb question. I roller skate instead of ice skate and your videos are informative. Even though I'm skating 8 wheels instead of 1 blade or inline is the information transferable?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of it translates across very well actually! Well, I mean l between inlines and Ice skates. I have had a lot of success teaching inline skaters using figure skating knowledge that I adapt to their skates. Quad skating is a little bit different, but some things still apply. Which skates are you using?

    • @timothymccardell6592

      @@timothymccardell6592 cool, you're on quad skates. Some techniques apply but there are differences. I'm going to be doing a video on quad skates this summer actually.
      I have some members of my website too that skate on quads, so they must also find the instruction translates across for some things too.

    My only problem with 1 foot spins is My skating leg doesn’t really spin and it just ploughs the ice a bit like a stop

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is it the toepick grinding into the ice or is the blade skidding?

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like your "first" problem rather than your "only" problem. Yep, I've been doing this too. The problem is you are trying to spin on your toe in a single point on the ice like a ballerina would, but that's not how it's done. Instead the blade should be skating backwards in little circles. Lloyd actually does appear to be spinning on a single point, but he's a pro, he can do things differently when we can't. But even Lloyd but more so other coach videos show that the skate should be skating small circles and not just spinning on a point.
