Excellent tutorial on how to get your spins faster. With enough practice, your basic scratch spin will become a powerful scratch spin.

Your point about the spin essentially doing itself is really valuable. I'm just starting to get the hang of it and have noticed this phenomenon too. It's a wonderful feeling when the spin begins and you realize you are suddenly doing very little, only making tiny adjustments, to just be "along for the ride." Thank you for sharing!

Right? It's a beautiful feeling once you get the hang of it 😍 Thank you for being a subscriber ❤️

It is not just about push, it is about pushing, hitting the toe pick and coming back to the sweet spot to gain the most speed.

@5:17 " So your main focus should be on holding your circle when you're starting and keeping yourself in that knee bend. So you're not really lifting from the knee too soon. You're trying to allow the spin to start on its own. So make sure you're holding into those knees as well as your circle."

How do you make your body straight butt in and make are body stop moving?

Thanks for this video! I've been practicing spins for 3 years, and yet I'm still having trouble holding the "strawman" position for more than one revolution, during which I have trouble lifting my free leg higher than 20cm from the ice. Additionally, I can't cross my free leg to do a scratch spin. I can lift my free leg straight on the side and even do a decent Y spiral when I'm not doing a spin, but in spins I just don't feel secure holding the strawman position. I don't know if it's the centrifugal force, my lack of muscle strength somewhere, balance issue, or what. I really want to improve my spins. Any suggestions? Perhaps some off-ice exercise for spins?

Can you hold a steady shallow backwards inside edge on your spin foot in a spin-like position? If not try working on that. What other areas of your skating are weak/do you struggle with? Sometimes things can be linked to build a better picture. Another thing is, are you letting yourself go out of your comfort zone far enough? Sometimes if we're working on the same thing for too long and it feels hard to make any progress, we're just letting our body get to the same spot and right when it feels like we don't know what's going to happen we bail out and stop. But it's actually necessary to learn to push past that edge of not knowing what will happen and let the body feel what the sensations are like and process it. If it feels to scary that you might injure yourself, try buying or borrowing some overkill butt, knee, and hand pads so that you feel protected enough to not be so scared you may fall and then push yourself to just stay in the spin until you really do fall instead of bailing out as soon as you feel unsteady.

Great tips. I think this is why my camel is struggling. I will test these tips tomorrow.

With the camel, you step on the heel of the skate and rock forward to the toe and back to the sweet spot.
