    I love that plan of starting the sleeves early when you did on the cardigan, feels like less of a mystery how that important top section is going to fit you in the end! I think the fit looks good.

    💯 agree with blocking your sweater at this stage. You’re so thorough with these steps. It’s so important. Those sleeves just look too big for you. Especially if you need to wear it to work in at a wedding. And reapplying that reclaimed sleeve yarn for more body yarn makes sense. Everything I’ve seen and read about fit keeps coming back to the shoulder fit as the most important when doing oversized anything. Having the shoulders and sleeves fit well balanced out an oversized knit body shape. I like oversized that doesn’t have me looking huge 😅 GORGEOUS yarn and perfect investment prince to make. Love seeing your progress. 🎉

    • @alecsgirl
      @alecsgirl 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! Whether or not you rip back the sleeves, for the next three inches what I would suggest is to tuck and safety pin the sleeves back against the yoke. That’s what I do when I’m working both at the same time. It makes a big difference keeping them out of the way. Love how it’s looking so far though! That yarn 😍

      THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was looking at it again last night and I think you are so right! I thought it would be a matter of sizing down entirely, but I do think it’s just the sleeves. I’ll definitely block it before I do anything crazy 😅 but I so appreciate that validation!! Thank you so so much!!

      @akanoraknits here’s a link that explained neck issues with knitting- th-cam.com/video/cmw4sMG-JdQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ABgWlfBHB4J5c8CS I think it’s amazing - NOW I get why so any sweater necks get too wide. Having a crisp neckline for an oversized cardigan seems to be desired. I’m so new, you may know this already but it was a big deal to me

    I share in your excitement in thrifted yarns. I love going thrifting for yarns. I scored size 50 knitting needles for a dollar. They look like messed up num-chucks. lol. When I was learning to knit, got 40+ yrs in crochet, I was thrifting for knitting accessories. I picked up what I thought I needed. Wow, did I ever score BIG with thrifting! My favorite early Saturday morning thing to do…. Thrifting!

      Thanks for replying. We have ARC thrifts stores here in CO where, they have four colored price tags. Only one color is full price, the other colors are half off. Every week, the color changes. Nice perks in the thrift buying. Don’t know if ARC thrift stores are just a Colorado thing.

    Hey Nora! Great episode this week. I've started my Folklore too but haven't made quite as much progress as you. Despite knitting on an off for over 20 years, this is my first cable knit (a part from the Stephen West Sock KAL last summer) and I love it! I thought it was going to be so complicated but once you've wrapped your head around the way the pattern is written and the repeats, it's fairly simple to follow. The spreadsheet you have shared is a great help too - thanks.
    I'm loving the look of your Sand cardigan. I think the adjustments you have made to the construction are a good call. With such beautiful yarn I can't wait to see how it turns out.

    Perfect sweater for your first colorwork. Only two colors. Remember to catch your floats about every 4-5 sts. And cross your yarn over to avoid getting holes. Oh, and keep your floats loose. Easy peasy. I would knit that but I do not look good in a yoke style. It is so pretty though. You do an amazing job of knitting. You have a natural instinct for it.

    Your cardigan is looking beautiful, Nora! I nodded when you said you were going to block it. I think I would do that too, especially because, as you say, it's expensive yarn, and you want it to turn out just right. Watching you talk about your projects and knitting as a newer knitter, gives me a lot of inspiration for my own progress as a very new knitter. I love seeing you try things and share with us what works and what doesn't. I appreciate how honest you are with everything. I'm knitting my first colour work sweater right now, the newleaf sweater by Jennifer Steingass. I was a bit intimidated by it, but I'm enjoying it so, so much, and I will definitely knit more. I'm looking forward to seeing your adventures in colour work :)

    Such a good idea to change yarns at the spine. The lace blocked so well. You did a great job on the short rows. What knot did you use when you tied it in front? I really liked how both tails were in parallel.

      It seemed most logical to me-I was terrified to run out in the middle of the lace! Thank you!! I actually tied it like a proper men’s tie. I don’t think I even know what that’s called, but I’m sure you could look up how to tie a tie and it would explain!!

    I wonder with the Cardigan for your cousin if you could join the body pieces and then pick up stitches for the sleeves and knit them directly onto the body? I'm not familiar with this pattern, so I'm not sure if that's feasible, but thought I'd suggest in case it makes it easier.

      That’s actually what I was talking through and then realizing it probably wouldn’t work in the podcast 😅 I thought the same-but they involve shaping in the shoulder and I’m not sure I can navigate them without just seaming them on. We shall see!!

    I have a lace scarf that I made two years ago and the yarn was expensive and beautiful, but I never wear it because of the shape. I think I might frog it to use the yarn for one of those adorable scarves you made (I just bought the pattern). Have you ever taken yarn from a finished project in this way? It seems wrong to do this, but it's kind of like the ultimate thrifting solution.

    • @akaNoraKnits

    I think the sleeves are slightly too wide, but I think that's what the designer wanted (yes, I looked at the projects and they almost all have wide sleeves ). However, the body seems to be the perfect size for you...I think you are completely right and blocking the cardigan is the best thing to do before continuing.
    You will find the perfect solution for you, I'm not worried. Take care 😀🤗

    As always, another great episode, Nora. In my humble opinion, I think that the fabric on your Nuro sweater is probably too dense. I agree that you should block it sooner rather than later to make sure it is truly the fabric that you want for this long, flowy cardigan.

    • @maryschartner4428
      @maryschartner4428 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree. I knit a Champagne Cardigan with Noro Madera Sake and over time the fabric has stretched a lot. With the length of your sweater, the sheer weight of the yarn will stretch it out. I even had to reknit the sleeves because they became too loose

      Thank you so much!! I always appreciate feedback so I am glad you’ve started this conversation! I definitely need to block it to confirm, but my swatch (knit on needles one size up) grew and stretched and flops around quite a bit after blocking! Hahaha. I was hoping that a more dense fabric would hold its shape a little better considering the weight of the garment. Of course, we will know better after blocking! Thank you for looking out!!

    • @akaNoraKnits
      @akaNoraKnits  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much for this feedback!! I definitely chose a more dense fabric for this exact reason!! I remember a lot of other podcasters saying the same and after reading through a bunch of ravelry pages using this yarn, and knitting and blocking my gauge swatch, I felt like a dense fabric would be my best chance for not over stretching. Fingers crossed!!
