It’s a regular walk of ours - just opposite our house! Just beyond the Motte, or Mote as it sometimes appears on OS maps, is The Ridge. A very pleasant walk through woodland which also affords you magnificent views of Scotland, but also the Pennines to the South.
Hey Richard! Wonderful Brampton video except it's not called the Motte around these parts.... it's called ' THE MOAT' and I'm afraid A Mott (as you pronounce it) means something very different indeed in Cumbria...Google may help with that 😁
It's called The Moat. Next is... Moat St. Then Moat Side....The wokerati may translate it MOTTE as in some Southern Dialect via Ole English/Latin but it's not right is it?
thank you, Robert, Cheryl, Julia, and Richard! another great video!
So pleased you liked it!
marvellous little video with Robert as guide sharing his knowledge of the locations makes it all very enjoyable indeed
Thanks Shaun.
I do love a good motte, when I’m watching you lot!! Our intrepid four went up the hill, with witty banter! Better still!!! That was very enjoyable!!
Thanks David - so pleased you enjoyed it.
Wow, stunning views from what looks like quite a climb. Well done all, really enjoyed that.
The rain came, which is a shame, for I would like to have explored more, especially along the ridge.
@@RichardVobes yes the ridge has better views, and is a great walk.
Excellent video - I love a good motte. Very impressed with your microphone - despite the weather, there was no real wind noise at all!
It is a good mic!
Very enjoyable video Richard ,nice team you have , and the lovely Julia is blooming 👍
Thanks so much Oliver
Lovely to see the fabulous four, well done,
Thank you Ann - a great climb and a view down to the town.
I did enjoy that, I do love motte and baley castles, very fascinating
Looking forward to more
Well done you lot 👍
Thanks so much
Another great vid Richard. I really must visit some of these places when I go to Cumbria next.
Cheers Barry - it is a lovely place.
The climb was definitely worth the view! Such a shame it was a bit misty. The food in the pub was delicious too, a lovely day all round.
Oh how we had a good laugh - days to remember! Thanks Cheryl.
i want to visit Brampton💚looks like a wonderful place😎
It sure is, and so different from a Sussex town.
Another realy good vid chalked full of history! Congratulations Julia!👶🏼
I shall be going back to Cumbria soon!
The Howards are a very large powerful family with a number of branches one of whom lives in Arundel castle.
Blimey - they get about!
Oh lovely Julia!! Do be careful. That looks a rather vigorous climb!! And an excellent video. Oh and I got my hair colored today.
And Hadrian’s wall!!
Well done you!
Yes indeed!
Ooh, what colour did you put on your hair?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻awesome
Many thanks as ever
great video, i live in brampton and just walked along there today and along the ridge, beautiful views. hope you enjoyed your time in cumbria
Hi Paul. Yes indeed. Would love to come back. Thanks for watching.

Do you know Arran?
😊lovely video. Perhaps the kilt will make an appearance on your next visit up north! 😁
Hahahaha - well, you never know!
Another great video from the Famous Five - or rather the Famous Four + Camera. Shame the views were a bit obscured!
Thanks Linda. The weather was on the change.
If you'd seen some Norman's perhaps they would have had some wisdom with them. And if you get that, well, none of us are getting any younger!
Oh Mr Grimsdale! I have no idea - except to say they are breaking all our bottles!
We used to call it moat hill not mote hill when we roamed it as young one in the 40 s and 50 s
Great quality video, is it ok to share on Brampton Walkers are Welcome Facebook page?
Please do - I would be thrilled!

Oh that is interesting. Strange through because a moat is usually a ditch around a castle often filled with water and not the hill.
Yea a mott in cumbrian...well maybe look in the urban dictionary lol
enjoy
Wierd thing is i've lived in Brampton my whole life and nobody ever has said "hey are ye gan up the motte" everyone i know calls it the moat.
Oh, that is curcious.
Moat not motte btw good vid by the way tho
Thanks very much.
It's spelt both ways on the map and as you say a Motte better describes a hill, but everyone refers to it as The Moat@@RichardVobes
It's called The Moat. Next is... Moat St. Then Moat Side....The wokerati may translate it MOTTE as in some Southern Dialect via Ole English/Latin but it's not right is it?
