  • In this video I share what I wish I did during my PGCE year in the hope it'll give you some advice for how to have a great pgce year and what to expect during your pgce. If you're doing a PGCE or teacher training course like a SCITT, you might find this useful. I share with you 5 things I would do differently to get the most out of my teacher training. Hopefully it helps you survive your PGCE - good luck!

    This is great, thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I start my PGCE in a few weeks (at the ripe age of 44) in Secondary DT and I'm so excited. Now I feel much more prepared and aware what to think about more than I may have done before watching. Can't wait to watch your other videos. Thanks again :)

    I started my PGCE this week and I can already see how useful the reading will be for writing the assignments. All of our sessions are online until Christmas due to covid but placements are supposedly going ahead as normal. Thank you for a great video - I’m going to get a little more organised with the readings

    As someone wondering if a pgce is for them, what's your tips for shyness, behaviour management and first class nerves?

    • @brokenchalksofia
      @brokenchalksofia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I could do a whole video on this - lots of people have these nerves so it's totally normal. A big misconception is that teachers are always high energy and bubbly, but actually, there is so much room for teachers who are quieter by nature, it brings such a calm energy to lessons and students, so use it to your advantage. To address nerves, be prepared and rehearse! For behaviour management, I have 10 tips on my instagram page and more than happy to make a video in the future, but the key message, is always be authentic to yourself, build relationships and be consistent with your rewards and consequences.

    If I take my PGCE in Biology, will I be able to teach all 3 sciences up to GCSE level? - or will I only teach Biology. (Other than being able to teach Biology A level)

    • @brokenchalksofia
      @brokenchalksofia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya, you'd be able to teach all 3 sciences in most schools.I think with the recruitment crisis it's common practice in most school to teach across all 3 sciences; there may be some schools in which this isn't the case so always worth asking in an interview. Good luck with your PGCE applicationg!

    Sorry this is a bit off topic, but during the interview with the school where you have to give a short presentation and also teach a short part of a lesson....do they tell you in advance what topic is being taught so you can read up on that part of the syllabus to make sure you have all your subject knowledge perfected? And also how would you prepare for the presentation as well? Thanks

    • @brokenchalksofia
      @brokenchalksofia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Yes, absolutely, they should tell you what you're doing to teach and who to. I'd prepare it as a normal lesson, depending on how long they ask you do it for - most school ask for an entire lesson. So, write a lesson plan and get the resources ready as you would for any formal observation. I have some lesson planning videos on my channel but will look to make one on interview prep soon :) Good luck!
