    I think I might have warmed up the filling before I added it to the pie maker…. That’s just me and I’m sure there are cons to that method as well.

      Yeah, it’s supposed to be cold machine, cold pastry and cold filling, but like me when I needed more than two pies it was just time wasting waiting for the machine to cool down each time.

    I have the same pie maker and i put my pastry in while it is cold, its far easier.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is true, but normally I’m making more and so it takes too long for the machine to cool down 😥

    Thank you, for your video. Your pies look delicious. I would like to pass something on to you I saw just yesterday. I was watching a video on youtube to make pies in a Sunbeam pie maker. When the person put the bottom crust in, the maker was cold, but it could be hot, too. Before they placed the crust in the maker, they crossed the sliced edges together and sealed the crossed edges with their fingers so that a cup was formed before it even touched the maker. Then, they just dropped this premade cup into the hole of the maker. That is the only time I’ve seen someone preform the crust before putting it in the maker. I haven’t tried that yet, but I will today. I always thought there was a reason for those slits.

      Ahhhh! That’s a good idea, I will try that next time. Thanks for the tip 🙏🏻🤗

    There is no need to pre heat.

    I just ordered a wooden tart tamper for putting the pastry in. I hope it makes it easier. I do the pastry while the meat is still hot. Put the pastry in the fridge after cutting it.

    • @HooverLux

      That’s a much better idea! I did something similar after using it and it was much better.

    Was just watching your video. Very nice. I have a suggestion....... It's easier to shape the bottom pastry over a small cup (might dust the cup lightly with flour first) then once gently shaped around the cup, turn it over the pie maker and tap, till it gently drops into the pie maker. I saw this tip a long time ago. You can even shape four of them ahead of time over the bottom of a cupcake pan. A little harder to transfer, but I'd make them ahead and chill them, should pop right off. Happy baking!

      Actually, a stainless 1/2 cup measuring cup would work well. :)

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow! Yes! That’s a really good idea, I have mugs that are a similar shape, if I chill them or even put them in the freezer for a few minutes before use, they will stay in shape better. I will definitely give that a go. Thank you 😘🤗🤗🤗

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great when loaded cold, but if you’re making more than 2 pies it takes too long to cool down in between.

  • @tonybest9307

    OK I've had it cpl weeks love..I even do toasted wraps in it..fill one side of wrap with say cheese onion fold over like half moon lay it in put lid down..also omelet pies.. no pastry.. eggs cheese onion .no oil..3/4 fill the moulds put lid down...I use google home devise ..OK Google set timer 8 mins.....trial and error on timing to begin ...but delicious..

    If you add the pastry to the pie maker when its cold and put the filling in then turn it on while you add the top it will be much easier and the pastry won't semi melt so you don't end up with a tear in it

    • @alipotter2694
      @alipotter2694 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      also if you pre overlap the base sides and gently press them together (this is why there are cuts in the side of the pastry) before popping it into the pie maker it also helps

    • @alipotter2694
      @alipotter2694 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      another easy tip to reheat is microwave (if cold or frozen) then pop them back into the preheated pie maker to crisp up the pastry again

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is true, I do that now, but if I’m making more than 2 I have to wait until it’s cool, so I’ve gone back to my pit tray for the oven.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am going to do another demo with a completely different method that will make it possible to make as many pies in continuation 😉😉😉😉

    • @alipotter2694
      @alipotter2694 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I found if I cut them out then shape them to fit by overlapping the cuts then put them back in the freezer while I get ready it helps to keep the shape and then you can just drop them straight into the pie maker dollop some filling in to them and whack on the top all while it is heating up and you can still do this once it is hot. So basically premaking everything so you just plonk one thing after the other .

    Not a good idea to plug in an appliance that has a heating element and draws a lot of power to a power strip, extension cord or multiple outlet gadget.

    Can you use pie crust only?

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, I don’t use this anymore, I find a pie pan much easier and better as I can cook multiple pies at a time.

      +Amira Guebleoui You’re very welcome 😊, I apologise for my terrible accent whilst pronouncing welcome 🙏🏻😧. I’ve found that putting in the pastry and filling whilst the maker is cold stops the pastry from shrinking and then turning it on and cooking them is just fine. I then wait for the maker to cool down a bit and then continue the same, maybe I shouldn’t use store bought pastry? Or roll it thicker? The experimentation continues..........

    • @missdjrose
      @missdjrose 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HooverLux No worries about the accent I didn't notice anything wrong with it but maybe cause my first language is also English I'm in the process of learning to pronounce Arabic myself which is quite the challenge for my Aussie tongue. I was wondering that myself about whether to have it on before to put the pastry also as it is quite hot so I am now waiting for it to cool now before to place the pastry in it. I'm using pre frozen ready made short crust for the bottom and thought I would use the puff pastry for the lid and see how I go

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Amira Guebleoui , I love Australia, being married to one 😂😂😂 and spending many holidays based in Melbourne, where my in laws live, the shortcrust and puff is a perfect combination for me too. Go

    It doesn't surprise me that your Alexa doesn't know what you said. Mine sucks too. Google Home is clearly the better choice. I constantly yell at my Echo (Alexa) because she doesn't know anything and can't "google" it.

    • @HooverLux
      @HooverLux  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know exactly what you mean. 99% of the time we use her to control Hive stuff, heating lights etc, timers for cooking and control Sonos. I have no issues with that, but! ask her any question and it’s always a bloody battle or I don’t know, I don’t understand etc etc. It’s absolutely useless for the rest of the stuff and very frustrating

      Epic fail! 🤣🤣. But I’ve worked out a way now, I pre make the pies in a metal muffin tin which is the same size, the fridge the pies for an hour, the pop them in the pie maker and cook them and it works amazing!! I will do a follow up video. I make some just a week ago.
