It's like a dream to see this in HD even from way back in 1994. This is the best quality video I've seen of this. It looks like something on TV now in 2022. What an unexpected treat!
I remember watching this when it happened. My favorite was Oksana, hands down. Kerrigan had a nice but uninteresting performance and the artistry and expression was so much less than Oksana's. Kerrigan did have a cleaner skate but took less risks and played it safe. Oksana went big and her performance really stands out.
You know what, I'm obsessed with this routine!! I loved loved loved Nancy's, but I can see why Oksana won! She's got energy, artistry, and character! Her music choice was SO CUTE! I love Nancy but I think Oksana was better. Her program was more difficult to me. They were close. Stop hating because she was perfect and she deserved to win!!

Nancy still got to go back to the U.S and Oksana her third world country, after being in and out of jail and rehab her whole life. Nancy is the true winner

Oksana was the best in that competence. Her style of bop and syncopated dancing, the duration of her performance and charisma are unique. I recognize that Sophia Tonya suffered a lot unfairly, and she is a great athlete, I really admire her. But Oksana deservedly won!
I have to admit that I was rooting for Nancy Kerrigan. But when I heard Oksana’s story, heard about her leg injury, and saw her perform in both short and long programs, I was as happy she wound up winning as I would have been if Nancy did. Such a great skater!
@@ChristieAdamsKangoo Oksana lived out her life battling alcohol. She looks terrible today. Nancy Kerrigan is living a normal life. Tonya Harding and her movie still leaves a lot to be desired. Nancy was still deliberately cheated out of that gold.

So glad to see time has done it's justice. Nancy did great and a very clean performance, well put together, but Oksana is simply a better skater. All the doubts and speculation of Nancy doing better is now a thing of the past.
From what I read from the history, 1994 was the year when the skaters started to put more jumps in their performances. So many also happened in that year. Including what happened between Nancy and Tonya. and that year, 1994, was the year when the legendary and irreplaceable king of ice was born, our Yuzuru Hanyu 😊

As a 90s kid I am so shocked, knowing about the Tonya versus Nancy scandal, I didn't know that Oksana took the gold while the other bitches were fighting. And now I know after researching that Oksana's darker childhood and severe struggles that she went through, it literally opened my eyes to realize that Oksana is the ultimate skater while Tonya and Nancy are really the losers that should BOW to this little queen! For the first time, I realized that Oksana had earned that golden medal and she deserved it greatly! 🏅🏆✨👑

All I can say is watch both the free skates of Nancy Kerrigan and Oksana and you will (or should) see that Oksana does win the artistic program hands down...!!!
This is what figure skating should be. Her graciousness reminded me Ekaterina Gordeeva when she was skating with her Sergey. That year in Lillehamner they also won gold. And holy craaaaaap like Japanese filming in 1994 in full HD 😳
The speed , the edges , the transitions , she covers the whole ice ,better skating skills and still people are crying on the comments. Effortless axel , higher jumps
The greatest of all time on the 3Lz, 3Lo, 2A, and especially 3S. The enormous height, the toe point in the air, the gorgeous takeoff and landing positions, the lightness of it all. Who else could have a 3S as a highlight. I've watched so many figure skaters over the years and Oksana still has the best solo jump repertoire. I really wish we could've seen a clean flip here though.
Her triple lutz at 0:54 has incredible height and so well done. Nancy did a triple lutz that was very good too and much later in her program. As good as the lutz was her triple loop at 1:54 is even more impressive with the height and distance traveled over the ice. Followed by a light and airy very well executed triple salchow at 2:22 is probably what clinched the gold for her. Look at her careful positioning of her free leg just prior to takeoff on that salchow, wow ! (see it in slo-mo at 4:37)

Now; in 2023, watching both performances again, twice. Both ladies delivered exceptional performances and Nancy’s performance is more eloquent than I remember. I still feel OB was the gold winner. She was superior in technique and body movements as eloquent as a seasoned Prima Ballerina. Such a gorgeous skater.
I've just noticed that not one of the top 4 women that night (Baiul, Kerrigan, Chen, and Bonaly) had a cheated lutz, which is so common nowadays. They all vaulted perfectly using the big toe/ middle toe part of their toepick. And all of them were on a correct outside edge. I wonder why the quality of the jumping was much better back then.
I think Nancy got swept away by her own hype. "America's sweetheart, overcoming a vicious attack and now she just needs to go get her gold medal!'...no wonder she was such a sourpuss on the podium. Oksana spoiled her Hollywood ending.
Not challenging? Really? Did she not complete 6-7 triples, all different? The triple flip that Nancy doubled? And the guts to alter her program to add the triple toe loop under Olympic pressure. Add that her sublimely beautiful artistic ability. Wow, what a lovely performance. Gold medal? Absolutely! No, she is not on the same level as Kristi Yamaguchi, but then no one is. :)
LOL at your ignorance as to the inadequacy of so many of Baiul's jumps. Girlfriend was propped up by Alfred Korytek & Company on the judging panel. Do some research. Her first placement was political.
Actually Kristi Yamaguchi had a really bad fall in her skate at the Olympics (granted, everyone else at 92 olympics skated really badly too). This performance beats Kristi's, in my opinion.
"did she not complete 6-7 triples" - LMAO. No. No she did not. Not by a country mile. Nancy * completed * more triples, and had more difficult overall jumping content.
She was so young and had so many pressures on her. I'm sure that wonderful performance meant a great deal to her. She was probably thinking of her mother too. She did an amazing job & I was very happy for her. And as an American who has seen judges cheat us many times.
Jennifer Wildflower more combos, triple/triple, and difficult jump towards end, no risk 🙄
Triple triple means no risks? WOW.
Thank you!
@@Digizzzzs triple triple isn't risky though? Lots of skaters do it
@@Dalatiidae But not Oksana Baiul.
You know what, I'm obsessed with this routine!! I loved loved loved Nancy's, but I can see why Oksana won! She's got energy, artistry, and character! Her music choice was SO CUTE! She had a few lower scores for technical, but the jumps she landed, SHE LANDED! that one single sticks out, but the rest were awesome!
Am i one and only person who thought that her face is pretty similar w tonya?
It was 1994. That was how we wore our makeup then, ha ha.
she looks like a mix of nancy and tonya imo
Stefani Salovni yessss I see it
the hairstyle yes. the body and face no. their noses and smiles especially are very different.
You're right - there is a similarity.
I love Nancy but I think Oksana was better. Her program was more difficult to me. They were close. Stop hating because she was perfect and she deserved to win!!
starfox 1 two foot this entire performance my god
the point i think she was trying to make was....oksana was not perfect if you include the 2 foot jumps kerrigan was actually better this night overall and was only victim of the eastern block judging kerrigan also did triple triple and oksana did not :)
You don't know triple triple lmao
you dont know anything
Grant Noroyan I answered not you
what a sweetie. so glad she won, and not a whiner either!
@@starfox1 She said she couldn't have been drunk because she is Russian. How is that for being such a mature person for her age. I guess she meant that being Russian, her father was Russian, she can hold her vodka.
starfox so what. She has gone through a lot. Hollywood actors get drunk and crash cars all the time
Fame happened too quickly for her. She went pro right after this gold. If she would have got the silver I believe she would have had a different outcome. Better in my opinion!
Nancy still got to go back to the U.S and Oksana her third world country, after being in and out of jail and rehab her whole life. Nancy is the true winner
@@klienmurollo8395 Wow. Just wow. Oksana Baiul lives in the United States, and has ever since 1994. Just, damn, Dude....
I really like her style. It's almost like ballet instead of just skating and she was continuously doing something instead of just going around the rink over and over
This is the difference between Nancy and oksana, with Nancy’s performance I was bored halfway through I would skip parts and felt like I was landing the same one over and over again, with oksana every part was different if I skipped a part I felt like I missed a whole chunk of the performance, it was fun and passionate I could tell for oksana skating was life and art.
I could almost never watch any of nancy's routines all the way through. Oksana, I could never look away.
She did her skates with pure flow, fascinating. With Nancy, I could see her skating more elegantly in a way. Both did wonderful jobs in the end
Oksana landed in two feet and that should be penalized
I watched and wanted Nancy to win. I remember being so bored and disappointed in her routine. I got up and refused to watch the others and missed Oskana. Now that I watched her,I can see why she won.
@@Ako8926 I'm from the US and the media made it seem at the time like Tonya and Nancy were the only ones who could get gold.
I'm so glad Oksana deservedly won gold! ❤
She skated beautifully , I love it , happy that Oksana won over Kerrigan , she just showed more life and entertainment , her jumps were clean and it kept you amazed! I don't know what she's doing now but in here she's amazing! Not necessarily perfect but Incredible!
When Nancy skated, I could almost see her her mentally counting off her routine steps, like it was mechanical and not artistic. Oksana...sheer loveliness and artistry.
She is married, lives in Las Vegas and has a little daughter, who skates as well.
@@nonnamynatt4439oh how nice! I hope they are all doing well. 😊
Nancy rutine was pathetic, figure skating isn't only about Jumps, it's about "Figure skating " Oksana it's Art and grace, no one's moves like her on Ice, pure grace.
+remy paraskovia I agree and that is why Oksana won gold that night. She was the belle of the ball and all of her haters cannot stand it! Even over two decades later!!
I don't see much grace in this particular number. It is goofy as hell.
@@soniquecat4745 Thankyou.
@@soniquecat4745 your ignorance is showing
Oksana could move like no other. A rare jewel.
Mintaka, you are a treasure. Uploading these in such high quallity.... I can't even describe my gratitude. Thank you.
If you knew how many times I've watched this performance, and I still get chills, and I still cry at the end, it's like a beautiful piece of music, it never gets old, and it always thrills!
why you crying over this ??
the same! I always cry at the end when I see Oksanas tears of happiness. Poor orphan child
I feel like some people aren't aware that you can like one performance without hating on competitor athletes. This was a wonderful performance to watch!
This program is amazing. It is fun, impressive, not empty! I love Oksana's skating and dancing 💃🏻
Wasn't she actually living at her rink at one point, because she had nowhere else to go? She had to overcome so much to win the gold.
@@ChristieAdamsKangoo Oksana lived out her life battling alcohol. She looks terrible today. Nancy Kerrigan is living a normal life. Tonya Harding and her movie still leaves a lot to be desired. Nancy was still deliberately cheated out of that gold.
She was the best that year, no question about it.
Some say Nancy was the best, but Nancys come along all the time. There will never be another Oksana.
She 2 footed the flip and toe...
She was a complete artist
E Rivera Nancy doubled her flip lol
Yeah the best in being overlooked over her only double landing jumps which were messy and sloppy.
I remember watching this in 94' no one saw her coming! She was the BEST! She out skated ⛸ everyone!! 🏅 Such a beautiful talented skater
A very good hd:ing. Oksana was amazing. As was Oksana Gristshuk.
SHE DESERVED IT! Her transitions are fun, different, entertaining, she goes with the music! Nancy is just emotionlessly moving around. Her jumps are also way better! The only memorable thing about nancys performance was the dress lol
It was indeed a gorgeous dress. But you're wrong, I also remember how cringy it was to watch Nancy trying to dance, or whatever that was. Still don't know how she could get 5.9's for artistry...
I remember this so well, I used to absolutely love watching her skate. She was such a powerhouse, but she also had this amazing personality. What a remarkable performer she was, and such a spectacular athlete all around. ❤
I will never forget this incredible performance! It was such a thrill to watch her get the Gold!
I'm just amazed at this quality. If you watch the American broadcast it's so bad, but this is freaking amazing
We will likely never see anything like Oksana's beauty and talent again. She was simply breath taking.
She is quite a graceful DANCER, and that is so fun to watch! Something happens between some skaters & an audience - Oksana had that and few very few do. Audience adored her from this night on -
So glad to see time has done it's justice. Nancy did great and a very clean performance, well put together, but Oksana is simply a better skater. All the doubts and speculation of Nancy doing better is now a thing of the past.
She skated beautifully and totally deserved the gold❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful and lovely! How I miss this era-figure skating was so divine in the 90s!
1:26 aw she used 'my favorite things' from the sound of music
i know!! i loved it
What the music? Please help meeeee
@@Laura-iw3rd sound of music is the name of the musical movie
This is a show tunes medley program. There is West Side Story and The Sound of Music in it.
My top 5 films for life!
So refreshing to watch this kind of skating... always loved her ultra clean ultra tight moves. And beautiful!
I saw Nancy performance...nice dress...
This Is a GOLD!!!
AMAZING & BEAUTIFUL!!!
Her grace and beauty on the ice remain unmatched.
This is such good quality, thank you for posting
As a 90s kid I am so shocked, knowing about the Tonya versus Nancy scandal, I didn't know that Oksana took the gold while the other bitches were fighting. And now I know after researching that Oksana's darker childhood and severe struggles that she went through, it literally opened my eyes to realize that Oksana is the ultimate skater while Tonya and Nancy are really the losers that should BOW to this little queen! For the first time, I realized that Oksana had earned that golden medal and she deserved it greatly! 🏅🏆✨👑
She really did deserve the gold medal. Flawless performance!
Cette performance - et ce sourire ! Trop d’émotion ! Bouleversant de sincérité. Trop de travail, mais quelle VICTOIRE ! Superbe Oksana ! Brava! Bravissima!
All I can say is watch both the free skates of Nancy Kerrigan and Oksana and you will (or should) see that Oksana does win the artistic program hands down...!!!
Vivas Petrov,
This is what figure skating should be.
She is absolutely amazing!

She was a teenager back then...she strugled to be there...she went thru some diffucult stuff ...and after watching each program she performed ...you just have to cry and feel happy...there were some many things going on during those moments in that tournament.....a real soap opera....and Oksana just made everything better...what a year!
Angry Figure Skating Fans - they think they're so cultured and erudite.
And then they bash an orphan girl who suffered a pretty bad injury during a practice.
Even soccer "hooligans" wouldn't stoop to those levels.
I am glad her struggles were remembered. I liked Oksana so much and was happy that Viktor Petrenko was a big brother to her. Thanks for your good words.
Ive watched a lot of skating in my life - this will forever be my favorite performance! Love you Oksana!❤
She is just magical!
She makes it all look so easy - good job.

Such a fun performance I have watched it several times and never tire of it! :-)
The '94 Olympics were a peculiar, yet memorable Games all the way around.
Oksana B., I loved her performance and was thrilled she won the gold. I’m American, I was confused how any of my friends and associates could think Nancy was the clear winner.
She skated beautifully, so much grace and power
I really love nancy’s performance it’s just ellegant, but for me Oksana’s performance looks more challenging!🔥🔥
she is such a entertainer😍
Awesome! Last minute decision to backload a program. Oksana was one hell of a competitor and incredibly talented skater!
i just want to be as beautiful as oksana crying after her gold-medal routine 💐😭
What a brilliant performance from a lovely little lass.God love her!
Exactly my thoughts.
Tonya Harding lutz is strong too
she’s so beautiful, i hope she knows what she means to young figure skaters who don’t have the cards played out for them like nancy kerrigan did
I think Nancy got swept away by her own hype. "America's sweetheart, overcoming a vicious attack and now she just needs to go get her gold medal!'...no wonder she was such a sourpuss on the podium. Oksana spoiled her Hollywood ending.
She skated with her entire heart out on her sleeve for the world to see. Absolutely beautiful!
Compared to Nancy's performance this was perfection. She was completely flawless and beautiful. I knew she was the gold medalist and well deserved!
I remember watching skating with my mom when I was a kid and I loved this girl
this was wonderful but im also in awe of how high quality japans filming was in 1994???
The quality is amazing. My goodness
Nancy * completed * more triples, and had more difficult overall jumping content.
lflagr
Actually, Kristi's error on the triple loop was not a fall. she landed forward and put her hand down.
she deserve the gold medal💞💞💞
Musicality is superb.
Oksana combined dancing so much better than anyone else.
She was so young and had so many pressures on her. I'm sure that wonderful performance meant a great deal to her. She was probably thinking of her mother too. She did an amazing job & I was very happy for her. And as an American who has seen judges cheat us many times. I'm so proud that with so much on the line, our Judge gave her the great marks she deserved.. Thats how it should be when so earned! God bless her.
