    Land rovers are beautiful in the way they handle off road, slow and steady.

    The electronics and traction control are phenomenal, when they are working properly.

    Thanks Jim & Karen, great video of the day. I believe plans are already a foot for the next one, hope you have BB running again for that. Always great to see these vehicles make things look easy.

    I love these videos. It's amazing to see the differences in traction control between the D4, D3, and Rangey.
    They certainly have been improving. That poor rover with it's wheel spin. And the difference between the D4 and D3 is noticeable as well.
    I hope the D4 isn't the last off road capable Discovery that we see.

    Unfortunately Black Betty (the RRS you see struggling in the video) had probs with traction control that eventually resulted in shattering the front left CV not long after this. When we pulled it out, there was nothing but shards of metal left of the CV. In some sections the TC was working, and in others it failed to engage at all even though there were clearly traction problems.

      RangeTDV6 Constant-velocity joint . Enables the drive shaft to transmit power at variable angles at a constant speed.

      What was the final root cause of the TC problems on BB?
      I have an 06 Range Rover Sport Supercharged, and sometimes when only three wheels are on the ground, it seems to allow a lot more spin than those discovery 3's and 4's, before locking the wheel in the air sending the power to the wheel on the ground. Could too much rust between the wheel speed sensors and the hub where they mount cause a poor ground? I do not have any faults or lights on the vehicle. Maybe it's normal, I don't know. Do you have any thoughts?

      @Misadventure4WD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sean,
      No reason provided for why this happens but your original theory is on the right path. TC is governed by sensors and if they happen to be adversely affected from either mud/rust/damage/misalignment or even just a sensor malfunction, then you are going to have problems with it. I am not convinced that ours is working 100% without faults and will continue to test it on our of road misadventures. Will keep you posted

    I'm about to get rid of my old 4Runner and invest in a Dico4. with the 3.0 L engine. Would you see the big wheels as a big concern (in terms of finding good off-road tyres)?

    The air suspension is better at articulation than straight coils as they are cross linked with a valve opening in low range. Coils won't work as well. The only problem with the air suspension is it takes moe pressure to gain height and you lose compliance as a result.

    I just lost my TC on my 02 Disco...hope its just an ABS sensor...lockers are just to expensive for me right now

  • @trolltrooper4340
    @trolltrooper4340 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the amount of poor articulation these vehicles have, i have to say they handled the terrain quite well and was very surprised with how well they did.
    Has that got anything to do with the traction control side of things?
    Could this be the future for ifs? I do know that toyota grabbed 2 200 series recently and put them through there paces, 1 being the normal ifs set up and the other being a fully custom made solid axle set up and they said that because the ifs traction control aids worked so well there wasn't much of a difference between the two so they didn't think it was an expense worth going ahead with making the 200 series solid axle.
    Love your videos , keep them up mate!

      It's definitely all about the traction and suspension systems. I saw the D4 on road tyres tackle muddy rutted tracks that older seriously modified vehicles struggled with. I'd have to say they are the best on-road/off-road combo vehicle on the market. There are limitations, but for most people, they will rarely find those boundaries a limitation to what they want to do with the car.

    Have a good day! Great movie. Say for steel wheels 18 are on the Discovery 4? I want to put on my Discovery 4 sdv6 Cales 18, and drives can not find. Sorry for the wrong language, writing through an interpreter. Thank you who responded!

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      They run a 17" composite rim Yuri so they get a lot more tyre choices. You can only do that on the 2.7ltr model though. You need to run 18's on the 3litre due to the larger brakes.

    at 3:30 there is a grey LR Discovery. What tyres does it have on?

  • @YuriChernishov

    Thanks for the answer! 19 is a standard disk on sdv6 3 liters. Help me pick a disk size 18. I want to put the m / t tires. Thanks for the help!

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need a specialised rim for the 3ltr Yuri with a deep dish to accommodate the brakes. Will check with the D4 owner and get back to you

    Was that whining on bb the drive line? I would have guessed at turbo without knowing the drive line/traction problems

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't the turbo. Still not exactly sure what caused it but could have been the traction control system trying to compensate for the damage to the CV.

    Hi what a nice adventure. I wish I can join. I have 2013 D4 5L HSE, its 20" rim with the tires 275, 40, 20 is really pain in the sand. Would you suggest me of any tires type I can fit on them. And don't harm the car.

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply mate. We also have V8 D4. Very limited when it comes to wheel options due to the larger brakes. You didn't hear it from me but some people have been known to switch the brakes over to the TDV6 version and run 18inch rims

    Why did the Range Rover Sport need it’s engine restarted several times when climbing the hill, the automatic can stall?

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes - they stall when they get traction issues.

  • @Natschke_Family_Adventures
    @Natschke_Family_Adventures 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is hardly any flex on the suspensions of any of these vehicles, is that for a specific reason? If a tire is not touching, you aren't getting traction.

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the nature of the IFS set-up in them. The traction control system more than makes up for it though.
