My heated seat turned up the other day and to be honest I didn't need to take the tank cover off. I just removed the black cover and pushed the connector on without removing it from the metal bracket . your video helped me though as I would have no idea where the connector was .great videos mate keep them up.
Hiya Kevin that’s great to hear. I had to search high and low to find it to begin with. And was quite hard to access. But it’s great you got it going easily: and pleased to hear the vid helped you mate 👍 And thank you for the kind feedback
I got the front and rear heated seat because I wanted them to match and function the same. I didn't get the heated grips because of the pricey install. I also got the ktm black uv cover for the bike because my Amazon ktm cover faded and let's water threw !
Well, this video saved me few quids, thank you! Boyz from Laguna Maidstone said, that when my heated seat arrives, I can fit it and even plug it in, but it won't work without them programming it from laptop ( for 90 quid per hour of-course). Looks like they took it from the X-mas tree! not the first time though...
Hi Rafal! Thanks for the comment mate and interesting to hear that! However I have to say now I am not 100% confirmed they are incorrect unfortunately. I definitely did not need any programming. However as you and one other have brought this up since my video. I will now have to check to see if my dealer "pre" installed any software before having the seat without my knowledge of this. This may explain why I could do a self installation. I will check this later today with them. So as you can imagine from my point of view it appears I didnt need any dealer input (but may already have without my knoweldge). Cheers Ric
OK confirmed your dealer must be yanking your chain. My dealer insisted he has not had to pre load any software or required to activate it whatsoever. It is all done via the screen on the bike as I have stated. They confirm this. Hence my seat and self install works fine. If it doesnt work then there is something else wrong possibly with wiring or connections. But no... no need to take to dealer to so called activate lol.....
Thankds mate! appreciated. That was the angle I was coming from. As with this bike there has been numerous occassions I wanted a manual or a guide to install something but nothing around. So had to work it out. I may aswell record it and post it so others can hopefully benefit. Cheers Ric
Hey up mate.. in short yes better seat... I have just loaded up a review vid on it. As I didnt have time to use it properly after the install so just did a 5 min vid. It answers a lot of questions hopefully. Cheers Ric
Hiya Phill Harrys - Not sure why your comment has disappeared. YT Glitches strike again... But thanks for the feedback and glad you managed to find the connections! Cheers Ric
Hello mate . My heated grips were pre installed at the dealership before I collected my bike. So am not sure about the grips installation. However it will probably be in the settings somewhere where you will need to first select “install”. After this you should possibly see them shown on the main screen of the display. I will have to check this though. But worst case is you may need activation at the dealer. I cannot be sure unfortunately. Cheers Ric
Hey Ricardo, does your local KTM dealer have the S windshield in stock ? I live in Canada and have a new 1290R and wanted to throw the S windshield on it….no sign have them showing up in Canada soon according to KTM….if you can share the dealer name

Just put on my heated seat and I can feel cables under the top soft sponge around 60mm back from the KTM barge/logo on the top middle of the seat. It’s pretty much right where your crotch sits. Anyone else notice this?
Hi again DC. ☺️ thank you indeed. It's nice to hear someone found something useful in my little clips. And also taken the time to say hi too. I think out of the 000's views a month on my channel only about 0.5% actually say hi 🙏👍 Cheers again Ric
Question about the heated seat, does the bike regognize the seat or do I need to go to the dealer because I haven't got the seats in the settings list.
You most likely need to visit the dealership to get it activated. Usually there is a minimal fee. It gets activated by the KTM system they plug your bike into. Mine worked as despite me Installing myself.. at the time it never occurred to me that the bike was already activated for these as I ordered my bike with heated seats despite waiting for months for them on back order 👍
Absolutely mate! Also if your practical minded its actually fun working on your own bike. Also when things go wrong at least you have half an idea on how to fix it and not rely on others. Obviously there is always that time you cannot beat a pro that works on these bikes day in day out for a living. Cheers Ric
Hello RIc your videos are very nice and I am owner too of this orange beast 🤩 could you tell me please if it is easy in euros!!! how much did the heated saddle back and front and the heated grips? thank you and cheers from Greece 🇬🇷🇬🇷
Hello mate. Than you for the time watching and comment. Great to hear from you. I paid £180 for the heated front seat and £150 for the rear heated seat approximately. The Heated grips were £180. they are all direct from KTM. I dont think it would convert correctly into Euros as you still may get it in Europe at a different price in Euro (not just a simple FX conversion). Best to ask you local dealer in Greece on phone how much they charge. But at least I give you a rought idea it is far from cheap unfortunately. Many thanks Ric
Cheers for posting bud. Did you buy these separately or with the bike when you purchased? Not sure when you bought bike and how long the power parts took to arrive. Basically, if bought the bike with all the addons I wanted, I assume the dealer will fit? Assuming it's different per dealer - but if, for example, they do not have the heated seat in stock when you purchase the bike, they can offer two options. 1 - You have it shipped serpately and you fit it. 2 - Dealer will fit it when they have stock?
Hi there mate. thanks for watching and enjoying the little vid. Yes I did buy them at the same time but decided to have them posted as the dealer is a decent ride away from me. So it was not practical. But definitely they were willing to fit. I bought the bike early April and only now have this seat arived! and still awaiting other parts :( its beyond a joke to be fair! Thanks again! Ric
hi ricardo, i took my 1290 yesterday to dealership for the 1000km service and they installed the heated seats for me. One question: do you think this heated seat is softer and more comfortable than the normal seat? Thinks, david
Hello David! For sure definitely feels softer and has more give it only marginally. Given that mine is the low version there wouldn’t be much padding left to play around with so depth of the cushioning is less I feel. However the cushioning seems much softer. Feels more comfortable in the short term however unsure for long times in the saddle. But it’s a good start 👍
Finally got mine. Observations from my experience- KTM had to activate it (another £40) with their computer- it wouldn't show on the screen when I connected it 3. It's only a little bit more comfortable than the old seat, so don't buy it if it's all-day comfort you're after.
Hiya! Yes hmmm. I’m getting a very odd feeling mine must have been pre installed as the dealer was adamant he did not have to do anything about heated Seat software. And has not had to do any so far. Which makes me wonder if it was a factory install (despite no seats available at the time for me)… also spot on is a little more comfy but no all dayer. It’s the best of a bad bunch probably. But the heat is very effective as I’ve tried it on a cold wet day the other day on an all day ride. Great to hear you’re independent honest opinion. It’s kinda is what every one is law thinks 👍
Ahh that’s a good assumption. Because my dealer said he never had to do anything. So I do believe him. Like you say possibly the tech pack is basically everything thrown in at it that you can have. 🤔
The amount of times you will yank on that cable when removing the seats, is guaranteed to be too damn high lol. Almost every time I take mine off, I forget the cable
