Finally, some in depth detail, most others dont really give the beginners tour. Im so glad you did the logo, its really what I was looking for.

How can you do this without a tiff file?

Great stuff. I just wonder whats the advantage of using layer shader over using mix shader with alpha mask. Except for not having to build bigger tree. Can we for example change the order of the layers after shader is created?

Hey Nezumi, thanks for watching the video. Being able to layer up more than 2 shaders is a real advantage for us. It is super easy to switch the order of layers if you use the show all attributes option when right clicking on the shader itself. You can then switch connections by swapping the tethers. This way we can also access many more attributes than we see in the attribute editor. Being able to name the layers too helps with not losing the plot when you have large networks. :)

@@AnellaVisuals Very cool! Thanks for answering. Yeah will definitely give it a go. I am very often layering shaders, usually around 3-4 and doing it with mix shader is possible but changing anything is a pain. I switched to Maya from Blender and will never go back :D Arnold is just soooo good! Love the results. Appreciate your hard work on tutorials!

@@tlilmiztli - Amazing stuff, thank you. We dabble with Blender a little for certain tasks but couldn’t agree more about Arnold. So good. Have a great day.

Good tutorial. Sadly it made me realise that I won't be able to create the shader network for the asset I'm working on. This is too advanced.

What asset is it that you are creating @holocron_vfx? Would love to see if I can help you figure it out.

@@AnellaVisuals It was a detailed BB-8 model. If you think you can do it then I could at least give you a copy of it as a reward.

@@holocron_vfx - Have you made the model already? Does it have uvs and ready to be textured or does this need to be done too? If you have the model and could throw it over, I’d be happy to talk through my approach to it. Did you want to do everything in Maya, or do you have access to Substance/Photoshop or any other tool for texture painting? It’s a fun character… to get your desired outcome you will need to ensure your UVs are planned out well.

@@AnellaVisuals Sorry for the late reply. Too much work. The model is fully complete. With uvs and everything. The problem is it was all done in max and naturally the shaders need to be made in maya from scratch. That's a little too tough for me as a rigger. If you'd like to have a look at it below is a download link. Keep the model as a reward if you can figure it out. It is very detailed.
