@Academic Phoenix Plus @Monica Thank you very much, I've been struggling to create drums cymbals without using textures, which didn't follow the lights of the scenes, after this tutorial, I finally made it!!! I'm a huge fan of your work!! Keep up this good work!! Cheers from Brazil!!! :D
Thanks Monica for making this relatively painless, I had real trouble with doing a layered shader with mental ray in the past but this was a breeze, another great tut from you.
Your tutorials is always helpful. Thanks for solving the doubts. Can you post next video on Surface imperfections topic on transparent or glass materials.
I have 1 question, how did you do the psd file, in my university i have to make something similar, i have to put some paintings inside a cave's tunnel. y follow the same process of yours but i don't get the same result, i assumed that's because of teh psd file, because i used an single png file inside the ai standard surface. i hope you can help me
I'm new to Maya and I want to add a label for my model. If I have a png file(black letters) with transparent background how can I add this to my model?
I wound up using geo for my decal. I followed what I saw, but ... maybe I missed something, maybe it's because I'm working in a Maya 2022, I dunno... the alpha would not cut out the image. It was either one base material or the other. Not a big fan of Arnold. I know it's supposed to be sophisticated, but sophisticated shouldn't slow me down or make routine tasks difficult. Redshift does this much more easily. None of this has ANYTHING to do with you, Ms. Phoenix. If you remember me at all, you know I have nothing but fond things to say about you. I'm just voicing my frustration with Arnold after unsuccessfully attempting this for an hour today.
@@AcademicPhoenixPlus Look, you know what? I did a 3D test project for a potential job (hate taking these tests, but you do what you gotta do). I used Arnold, since I can't afford the $500 for Redshift. You know what? The interviewer told me he thought I photographed the item in question. Arnold's great, but sometimes it's just too complicated. And, this was not a knock on you AT ALL. From your public persona at least, you strike me as being a thoroughly cool and pleasant young woman who knows her stuff. I just want things to work as advertised LOL
Awesome video but im confused about my setup. for some reason i only see the image on my glass mesh when i connect the png or psd node's out color to mixshader shader 2 input and the out alpha to the mix input. These pretty much leaves my logo shader useless not connected to anything. When i tried to use the logo shader the way you instructed i keep getting either my image all black or the glass looking all black. Any suggestions on my problem ?
@@MSJDesign In case anyone is having the same issue, I realized that in this tutorial she doesn't have an alpha channel, but uses the inherent transparency of the psd file. Make sure that you have an image w/transparent background (checkered pattern) in photoshop, then use the alpha to drive the mix shader. If you try to use a b/w alpha mask with this process it doesn't work as intended.
Thank you for your comment, Asraf! I really appreciate it. I do have one that goes over spec/bump and more. I hope this is helpful! th-cam.com/video/34_-amtDdc4/w-d-xo.html
i made my own logo thats pure white with no BG but i saved it in PNG format becasue PSD is crashing Maya for me.... (becasue of course if would lol). Everytime i render out my mesh has a weird blue hue to it when i changed the color of the glass material in the transmission settings to a red hue. I cant figure this one out anyone have any ideas?

I hear you Keith. I also think there might be a better way to do this than what I showed. I'll have to revisit. :) Hope all is well with you!

Bump maps should be set to RAW.
You can but not always necessary. Whatever works to make your piece awesome! :)
Can you give me a background image
