Hey man, I get it. It's a lot like food. Sometimes it takes tasting different ingredients and understanding the process of what goes into cooking before your palette expands enough to really appreciate and understand good food. The same goes for switches. If I put a set of Holy Pandas in front of someone, and then put down a set of Gat greens in front of them, I guarantee most of them won't appreciate the subtle and nuanced differences between those switches. But once you explain WHAT is different and what to look for, you'll slowly see the person start to "get it" on subsequent typing sessions. It also takes time. I absolutely despise Box Navies, and I am a lover of all things clicky (I prefer jades, noble yellows, pinks, etc.), but let a person type on Navies for a while and they probably won't think anything of it. Let them type on Navies for a day whilst working, and I guarantee they'll come back and ask you to pay for their rehabilitation, now that they're suffering from advanced carpal tunnel syndrome. In a blind test, like these guys, I could have a hard time discerning between different switches myself. But give me 10 minutes on each board and I could probably come pretty close to guessing each switch without much trouble.

All I care about when it comes to a keyboard is how my left hand will feel after using WASD and Left Shift for about an hour straight. I never even considered the sound of a key until I came accross these videos.
I find that the subtleness of browns bump is ideal if you lube them (smoother) and place wasd's red o rings (the smaller ones for less noise, but not mushy) in a cherry profile keycap (better feel/lower profile). With this setup you press through the very light bump and you get the light bottom out directly after. This leads to a very fast, focused, and accurate gaming/typing experience without a unnecessarily larger bump/click.
programming on mx brown's tried different switches took me around 3 month as i gave the keyboard around a week of time to get a hang on the switch. Tried various Cherry color's (red, black, clear) tried holy panda, tried zealious. Many are saying Brown's are "linear" but to code on something like red switches is for me personally horrible i didnt knew when i pressed the button and made many mistakes. On something stronger tactile like the Panda's it happend that i sometimes didnt pressed the key fully ( i directly noticed it and could correct it compared to the red) also the "hard" actuatin point made me type slower but all in all i liked the Pandas and they had the best "sound". So why the brown's? First they are tactile its subtle but thats exactly what i need i can differentiate if i pressed the button or not i dont need much force and can type fast the sound is crappy but i wear a headset basicly all the time so i dont care and they are not loud , really dont understand why people say they are not tactile i mean you can dislike them that they are not tactile enough but literally everybody should feel the even subtle bump if they type everyday on a keyboard. btw. non native english speaker and wrote on my phone so dont hate me :P.
I like your take on this - switches are like anything that can get expensive and niche - the majority of people wouldn't really know what to look for because they just don't really care, so they'd gravitate towards something like MX Browns, as you said, because they're familiar. It's kind of like: just about everyone likes cheese (grilled cheese, pizza, etc) but takes someone who REALLY likes cheese to appreciate some rank, aged, delicious cheese. Given the choice between mozzarella and a Stilton, a lot of the population would find the stilton unpalatable, but your cheese fan would love it. Same w/ something like box jades or holy pandas, I love the sound and feel but my coworkers actually prefer the stock keyboard that came with their Mac. Whatevs!
Bro every time Linus tries to do enthusiast keyboard stuff he just drops the ball. This one in particular. Keep up the good work on the channel my guy.
the content has its place though, tbh. this particular video was sort of my gateway drug into there being something other than cherry and gateron reds, browns, and blues
Drop the ball how? Because he did blind tests and recorded the results with full transparency? I get that people like to circle jerk with the MX browns being terrible but c'mon. Just cause you disagree with the results doesn't mean they dropped the ball. Lmao. And just because people like what you don't doesn't mean they are wrong. How sad is that?
@@DeanGlI wouldnt say they have dropped the ball but they did provide wrong information by saying linear switches need to be pressed down all the way to actuate. I have always preferred mechanical switches because I don't need to bottom out if I want to. I believe that this difference is quite significant to beginners justifying mechanical keyboard purchases as typos usually comes from failing to bottom out on membrane keyboards, and fatigue comes from long hours of bottoming out on membrane keyboards.
I'm pretty new to getting into various different types of switches myself. I recently got a board fitted with Kailh speed coppers, having never really used tactile switches before but always thinking they would be a nice fit for me. While it was in the process of being shipped to me, I ended up at a Best Buy mainly to pick up a mouse and tried out a few key switches they had set up for demo purposes as well while I was there. As I got to the MX Browns, I got a bit worried about my choice of switch for my board. Immediately I was like..."ew. god i hope all tactiles aren't this bad." Fortunately when the board came in and I tried them out I was able to breathe a sigh of relief as I really enjoy them. A couple lessons to be learned there for people in my shoes just starting out though. 1: Try out different switch types before you commit to buying (hell buy a switch tester if you can) and 2: don't judge an entire category of switches based on one particular switch.
I feel that if they included gateron browns, they would feel somewhat familiar to most but with a smoother press. Maybe then mx browns wouldn't have won
i don't get the hate for cherry mx browns, but the only other switches i tried were cherry mx red and kailh pink. i hate that i can't rest my hands on linears, i don't need a huge tactile bump, just something that stops the switch from sliding all the way down, just because i'm resting my fingers on them.
i wouldnt say that. cherry browns are hardly considered tactile, so they shouldn't have been put in the tactile category. they may be "decent" to some, but that doesn't mean theyre a true representation of tactile switches.
What we can conclude is that if you show people who like linears a set of heavy tactiles and one pseudo-tactile (browns) they'll go for the most linear offering
Hey dude found your channel recently and fuckin LOVE your style and humor. I’ve gotten into custom mechanical keyboards and it’s seemingly very niche right now but I know once it’s big you’re gonna EXPLODE and I can’t wait for it. I’ve been running a Corsair K95 with Cherry Browns and after reading so much about other switches and seeing the collective agreement on them it’s made me realize the mistake I’ve been making 😭😭
LMAOO, appreciate it! oh man, for all the stick corsair gets for their boards I still think they're some of the nicest low profile boards in existence (sorry for taking a dump on cherry mx browns - I genuinely don't like them but if you enjoy them then more power to you!)
Glarses it’s understandable, since I’m starting to just give switches a try till I make my own custom soldered on keyboard I got a semi cheap Hotswap and ordered a set of Kailh Box Jades and Novelkeys Creams I’m excited to see how this turns out and excited to get into the world of thee keyboards. In the meantime keep killing it with your videos we all enjoy what you do
0:48 managed to make me laugh several times. Those two statements can't be further from the truth. There are several semi-loud switches, like Gateron Ink Yellow. I use Cherry MX Red lubed with Krytox 205g0, and to actuate, you only need to press around half the travel distance before bottom out though...
The thing is, in terms of mainstream keyboards, Cherry MX *is* the gold standard. Boutique mech keyboards are, by their very nature, niche. These rare, discontinued or highly coveted switches aren't *in* any major keyboard brands. They're not even *a* standard, let alone *the* standard. I enjoy the channel, but this vid just reminds me of a Reddit warrior, smugly decrying 'normies' for not understanding his very special vocation, on which is knowledge is masterful. Which, thinking about it, isn't that far from the truth 😂
I've had Cherry Reds, Blues, and Browns.. but after going to Silvers there's no going back. Perfect blend of gaming and typing with lower noise output and less fatigue over time.
You should react to Linus’s video of him building a keyboard. IT HURTS to watch. He uses browns and it costs him 70 DOLLARS. He also uses these awful keycaps. It just hurts
I came across your channel a few days ago and i can`t stop watching all vids have something funny and are super entertaining! keep making great content! (also my fav is the trying to sneak onto the computer but dad likes keyboards)
I ordered £50 worth of tactile switch testers recently and im so excited to try them all out. The one's im most excited to test are the TTC and C3 fruit switches (kiwi's, dragon fruits, watermelons) as well as the kinetic labs switches. I love the whole spiel of novelty "enthusiast" switches but i want to try out tactiles ( i currently use cherry silent reds which are... very linear) for my first proper custon board. Great video as ever!
It makes sense that most people could unintentionally prefer the types of switches they use all the time since typing is very memory-driven, and the weight/feel you're most comfortable with is most likely the one you've already been using for years
My conclusion after looking around for a bit: Cherry is like the keyboard Bose, very liked by the masses but hated by the people who are into the hobby lol
I was watching the video of you trying Cherry MX Browns for the first time first and then came to this video. When the results drop and it shows that Browns won the tactile category I started cracking up at your reaction lol.
I love MX browns... enjoying each keypress writing this. Tactile heaven. As Apple is perfectly noting in haptics guidelines "Often, the best haptic experience is one that people may not be conscious of, but miss when it’s turned off". 😉

Try buckling springs, best switch for programming imo.
“Too tactile” THERE IS NO SUCH THING
This man is underrated
nice pfp
@@Lexse lmao ur just a brighter and more saturated version of it
This is the reaction video I want not some guy saying wow every 2 seconds and narrating everything we see on the screen. Keep up the great work
Out of all the switches mine are 100% linears
BTW i love the feel of those linear switches which i think are called Cherry browns?
1:17 the best part of the video
3:07 laughed my arse off
Holy shit, I brought my first Brown and now I understand "Cherry MX brown is tactile" joke
yo, They didn't even test the holy pandas, they just glossed over them, not even caring at all
I like your take on this - switches are like anything that can get expensive and niche - the majority of people wouldn't really know what to look for because they just don't really care, so they'd gravitate towards something like MX Browns, as you said, because they're familiar.
Ya know, I've had a shit week.
This video, it's a whole lot less shit now :)
"click. *bass filled boom*" funniest shit ever istg glarses is an absolute maniac.
engaging algorithm. we desperately need people in the space who actually know keyboards...
"Yeah, my preference"
My favorite Glarses quote
someone : likes cherry mx browns
Glarses : N O
0:49 That ''oh'' says everything.
Dude, your videos are hilarious!
3:05 is the best thing I've ever watched
*_c l i c c_*
0:45 lmao that made me laugh so hard. How could they even say that?
I really don't know - maybe the person editing the video uses a rubber dome keyboard?
@@Glarses the person editing the video has like 8 keyboards at his desk so it depends on which one
Been watching a few of your videos this morning for the first time.
Heard "Everybody's Circulation" and double checked to make sure I hit subscribe.
So from this small research we can conclude, that when herd behavior is taken away, cherry browns are decent.
i wouldnt say that. cherry browns are hardly considered tactile, so they shouldn't have been put in the tactile category. they may be "decent" to some, but that doesn't mean theyre a true representation of tactile switches.
No be quiet
In the meantime keep killing it with your videos we all enjoy what you do
I’m gonna go buy some Mx browns now, thanks :)
Yeah, this video turned me off completely. Just smug bullshit.
Woooosh, strait over your head XD
@@piethein4355 No. No it wasn't. Tongue in cheek still carries a message.
@@piethein4355 This wasnt tongue and cheek. He rebutted things he was seeing with his actual opinions hes shared on this channel
I mean there are quite alot of switches that u can find easily and better than cherry
I’ve watched for a few weeks and never checked subs and was thoroughly surprised how low it was. Great videos/Great channel
1:18, everyone liked that
4:03 your tongue went Cherry MX Brown mode 😂😂😂😂
The second they have a negative opinion about mx browns he freaks out. Love it
I've had Cherry Reds, Blues, and Browns.. but after going to Silvers there's no going back. Perfect blend of gaming and typing with lower noise output and less fatigue over time.
How do they compare to Gateron browns?
What’s the green switch you pressed in the vid, I want those
Box jades
5:55 - it got me here, it got me caring and I am happier for it.
You should react to Linus’s video of him building a keyboard. IT HURTS to watch. He uses browns and it costs him 70 DOLLARS. He also uses these awful keycaps. It just hurts
I came across your channel a few days ago and i can`t stop watching
all vids have something funny and are super entertaining!
keep making great content!
(also my fav is the trying to sneak onto the computer but dad likes keyboards)
As a newly inducted keeb enthusiast this content is gold!
Typing on browns but I'm gonna try to get some glorious holy's
It makes sense that most people could unintentionally prefer the types of switches they use all the time since typing is very memory-driven, and the weight/feel you're most comfortable with is most likely the one you've already been using for years
My conclusion after looking around for a bit: Cherry is like the keyboard Bose, very liked by the masses but hated by the people who are into the hobby lol
I'll take it one step further and say they are like beats by dre. All advertising no research
whatever it takes to justify blowing half the budget on the switches that are marginally different
I wouldn't say Cherry switches are necessarily terrible, they're just really average. They're definitely not a "gold standard" though lmao.
people don't like bose?!
@@gradientwc8927 it's impossible to read sarcasm over text so you're gonna have to clarify
I was watching the video of you trying Cherry MX Browns for the first time first and then came to this video. When the results drop and it shows that Browns won the tactile category I started cracking up at your reaction lol.
“Cuh-lick” 😂
2:34 bro you so knowledgeable about switches man fuck your so so so so sick LOVE IT you know all about the switches and how they feel omg
I love MX browns... enjoying each keypress writing this. Tactile heaven. As Apple is perfectly noting in haptics guidelines "Often, the best haptic experience is one that people may not be conscious of, but miss when it’s turned off". 😉
The linus video was actually what got me into the custom keyboard scene, and I am loving my Zealios v2s
mx browns are the most scratchy switches
indeed
