I watched this with three other people scattered around in the theater the first night it was playing. I've still never met another person in real life that liked this film even a little bit. I could watch it all day and night for days and still be in love with every second of it.
The movie had such a high standard to live up to when compared to the tv series, which was ground breaking for that time. Michale Mann was also excellent in his production with the use of light and music. Also, Jan Hammer wrote up to 15 minutes of original music per episode and casting was held to a high standard. Hard to recapture that in a movie. Still, I liked it. But I still preferred the tv series.
You need to see some films outside of the hype. Growing up on the Miami Vice tv series then years later having Michael Mann's film 'Heat' go down in my books as the best film ever made, I soiled myself when I heard Miami Vice the film was coming out. I was so disappointed after watching it but watched it again a year later and saw the genius of Michael Mann being ahead of his time. This is a real good movie.
@emilymathews7073 228 miles according to Google maps. They actually reviewed this movie on "the rewatchables" podcast and talked about the logistics of this scene and how they'd need a dramamine IV to make that trip LOL
@@mamsf All the rumors were Foxx did ruin the movie, he wanted way more money after a agreed to salary when he won for Ray which hurt the budget/story, then he opposed the gun violence, would not stay at places he thought was too dangerous which meant a bigger shootout was just taken out of the movie but then Foxx does Django unchained despite claiming he was against guns/violence. Foxx was not even good in the movie, they certainly didn't need him.

I discovered it just a few weeks ago when I saw it on TV. Loved it. Checked it online, I saw others opinions and I was like - wtf? How could you not like it? And now it's probably my favourite movie I ever watched. What a masterpiece.
Unfairly underrated movie. Still aging like fine wine. I appreciate it more fir every year. Incredible visuals, solid acting (the best Jamie Foxx ever btw). Beautiful low key ensemble cast. Very well written. For some reason an underappreciated piece. Critics spent more time criticizing Colin Farrell's hair than bringing up the awesome work performed in this production.
Jamie Fox left the island they were shooting on and almost didn't finish the last part of the movie. Its quite interesting and all the problems they ran into during the filming of it which ballooned the budget somewhat and hurt the net profits.
This picture was fabulous....Gong Li and Colin Farrell were great together and this was a memorable scene, indeed. Gong Li was beautiful, exotic and was the right blend of danger and sophistication...a perfect foil for the cop.

Love this movie. Criminally underrated. Sooo much style in this scene - truly Vice. My only wish - they should have gotten Jan Hamnmer back to do the musical score.

If I remember correctly the Chinese actress didn't even know English at the time. She learned her lines phonetically. I'm sure she knew the meaning of what she was saying though, else she wouldn't have been able to act.
This movie is the most romantic movie from the XXI century. Isabella and Crockett relationship will stand overtime as an archetype of tragic love. An impossible love doomed by inevitability. This is a true melodrama. The songs fit with the almost palpable images (and beautiful colours) like lemon and mint in a mojito or if you like like salt in sea water. The rest of the plot and all other characters are mere artifacts to wrap the true essence of the story. I watch time over time this movie trying to save Isabella and Crockett from their fatal end. The exterior boat shots are a great nod to the original series. Season 1 “Calderone’s Return: Calderone’s Demise” Some of the best few minutes of 80s television.

She is totally exotic and that exemplifies Miami Vice. Love the way it's filmed. And some very memorable lines and moments throughout. He should make a better sequel.
What's interesting is that the film's plot is very similar to an episode of the series and played out too much like it. I just think they chose the wrong episode. It didn't feel like a 'film' to me as a result. I was a little disappointed by the lack of style or music in it. The tracks were mostly a letdown and there was no romance to the whole drug/vice angle that the series made popular. The bad guys didn't seem like they were enjoying their livelihoods. The climactic shootout was okay, but since it was so dark, you can't really get much out of it. Yeah, he knew what he was doing. Right on par with the Scarab/Voices scene from the original Miami Vice TV show. Love how he straps her in and then pushes the throttles all the way up. He was thirsty for those Mojito's.
Thought it was just me who loved this. Love the boat roaring into the sunset. Made me wish I was a badass dealer, or cop pretending to be one, or whatever...
This is an epic scene. Few directors seems to be able to give a moment like this the time it needs.

Once I had a fortune. It said: "Leave now. Life is short. Time is luck.” Great scene and a great movie! Im a big Series fan but the more i watch the movie the more i love it!!
I dont do business in Cuba and Jesus is not my husband. I'm a business woman I do not need a husband to have a house to live in.... Best line, scene and song in the movie
I love the style of this scene!
Amazing movie.
She raises her hands and surrenders when Crockett buckles her in . .
I wonder if anyone will ever realize how symbolic this scene is.
Sexy. He can buckle me down too.. lol. 😂

A subtle way to embrace her.
Yeah, he knew what he was doing. Right on par with the Scarab/Voices scene from the original Miami Vice TV show. Love how he straps her in and then pushes the throttles all the way up. He was thirsty for those Mojito's.
the music in this movie tho, so good
Name of the music of this scene?

Mann's sense of style is legendary. The highway chase scene from Heat is my favorite
Having been in a boat like this and traveled to a pierside restaurant... I've never felt more 'rich'
This has got to be one of the coolest movies of all time 😎
Thought it was just me who loved this. Love the boat roaring into the sunset. Made me wish I was a badass dealer, or cop pretending to be one, or whatever...
And your not the only one
