    I think there's a perfectly easy and rational metaphysical explanation for, if not a god, then a ground of being that could, and did, become gods in the past and present. It goes a little something like this: Humans are intelligent and sentient. Humans derived from the universe. Therefore the universe must be at least equally intelligent and sentient in some manner, and given how it presents itself to us, likely much more intelligent. One can then extrapolate and say that the universe possesses _all_ the intelligence, while our own is simply a part of it. Hence, the universe _is_ god, and we the mortals. We are "made in the image" of that universe in a sense, born from its elements, and subject to and in awe of its myriad powers, of which we had little explanation until relatively recently.
    This simple metaphysical argument, I feel, gets straight to the core of practically all deist religion. None of this requires a stretch of imagination or the use of academic terminology. It was only after this simple argument was made so, so long ago, that it was embellished and adorned and decorated and accessorized to become the religions we know today.

    According to ACIM, complexity refers to the perceived multitude of problems and challenges arising from the ego's perception of separation. Simplicity represents the underlying truth that all problems stem from a single source ( separation) and can be resolved through the practice of forgiveness and the realization of the unity with God, which signifies a clear and unified perspective on the nature of reality.

    How's this for a metaphysics? God created the world of, by definition, Not-God. Accordingly, if you flip the divine attributes you have a pretty fair description of the attributes of the world we live in. And living in Not-God, being Not-God, we can't possibly comprehend God, only believe or not believe in God. It's a real pain in the backside--isn't it?--to have to keep saying God or, worse yet, Godself, instead of Him or Himself, to avoid committing a sin against political correctness.

    "What that God would be like"
    The highest methodology is Apophasis, netti netti, via negativa, theurgy - all the same thing. There is no other for comparison to God; thus no definition can there be. There's no limitation of God therefore no circumscribing, no place, no distinction. God is transcendent to characteristics, place, time, mass and magnitude; but the gods do have characteristics and attributes.
    ^ there can be no other way. But apophasis isn't merely detraction, it's removable of name and form. Apophasis and kataphatic is one and not two. Everything affirmed by kataphatic is, and apophasis removes only the name, form, condition, it's essence remains.
    The mind hinders man. "God has to be an object or else i wont believe in him".
    Fine. Whatever.

    Not actually “very interesting argumentation”. If metaphysics has any chance of making a single valid statement about the world it must, surely, decide whether the world is god-created or a meaningless accident. (Or - my view - something more subtle…)

    • @georgesquenot1404
      @georgesquenot1404 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Until proved otherwise, "god-created or a meaningless accident" is likely a false dichotomy. I am curious. Which "something more subtle" are you thinking of?

    • @richardatkinson4710
      @richardatkinson4710 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ Well now, you’re probing my personal philosophy (which I take very seriously). It probably makes little sense without all the background. But, since you ask, I am a philosophical idealist - I believe (I’d prefer to say I logically conclude) that the universe is “more like a great thought than a great machine”. I hope I got that quote right (Sir James Jeans, physicist/cosmologist around 100 years ago). But I don’t accept any infinities (partly because I accept arguments - e.g. Konrad Zuse - for a computable universe). Therefore I have to believe in a finite consciousness underlying reality. Not God, not a meaningless accident, just a conscious world which, presumably, takes a special interest in its conscious creation, i.e. us. That makes me an optimist.

      @@richardatkinson4710 Regarding arguments, it seems to me that all of them ultimately rely on unjustified assumptions for which we are ultimately left to prior probabilities coming from our biology and/or from our personal history (the so-called “self-evident” statements).
      I am skeptic about absolute meaningfulness so in “meaningless accident”, this is the “accident” part that I would question. Until proved otherwise, we have nothing other than intuitions that anything we experience could have not been or could have been any different. I am not sure that such intuitions are correct and I would certainly not consider them as evidence for anything.
