My great nephew is a cleft foot baby!!! He's had 2 surgeries since birth. Lil man will be good and you already doing the right thing by starting now!!!!! Love the videos just found y'all tonight!!!! Keep up the good work and can't wait to see him grow!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
My eight month old grandson has two club feet, and when he was born his poor little legs were so crooked, but to see him now after treatment is incredible. I’ve been there through it all and shed a few tears along the way, but all in all, the prognosis is amazing. You are such an amazing couple and Max is blessed to have you as parents.
Dana! I truly admire your thankfulness even when things don’t go according to plan! Truly something I aspire to be! Lou you are such an amazing worker! You can see the hard work you have done for your family and it truly is admirable!!
A bear fence, bear spray and a firearm for protection would be the first thing I'd do. A wall tent is not protective against a bear and all the cooking you'll be doing is going to attract them at some point, even if food is put away. Their noses guide them and if they are hungry enough, or even just curious, they can be a serious threat. I would not be putting my infant is a situation like that without a lot of bear protection. The tent is fabulous otherwise! Such an amazing job Lou did!
I think my spirit's been suffering withdrawal from your effervescent positivity and creative problem solving, not to mention your truly inspiring marriage of mutually genuine love, affection and teamwork!! You make my heart overflow, and I'll keep all in prayer, looking forward to watching Max's complete restoration and transformation from infant to toddler! It goes SO VERY FAST, so your pacing and videography are just magical. (I would know after raising 2 brothers, 2 natural children, 3 stepchildren & starting my 10th year running an organic home-based daycare!) Much love and prayers for all, rubbins & scritches fur Freja❣️🥰
Oh my goodness you can't imagine how big the smile is on my face reading your comment, Dawn! Thank you so much for the kind words and excitement and encouragement ❤ Sending lots of love to you and your whole beautiful family, and your wonderful daycare!! ❤
Beautiful people, so much love and respect for each other.... love your projects, your vision of the future, your hope and faith.... be happy, be healthy be content.... God bless you always guys x🥰
1. I LOVE how patient and flexible y’all are, especially with the weather and with your baby boy. (I have 2 little girls and having kids requires so much patience and flexibility) 2. Seeing y’all stretch and do yoga is inspiring me to do the same! My body needs it! If no one has told y’all that you’re doing great, you are! Bless y’all!
Plant lavender around the wall tent. Mosquitoes hate lavender. You can also use lavender oil. Put your urine in a jar and pour it on your property perimeter of your property near the wall tent (do this weekly) the animals around your wood areas will stay clear out of fear. You can also do this about 10-15 from your veggie garden if you dont have a fence around it.
I definitely think the urine trick works and when using a separator composting system it is super easy and becomes a regular part of the flow (pun intended) of life.
You can actually buy dividers for your clothes line to keep the tension even between top/bottom line so bottom line doesn’t droop to the ground. Hanging clothes out is the best thing ever, oh the smell from the sunshine on fresh sheets is incomparable
I couldn’t say how happy I am to watch your evolution. As a young woman, I’m looking for role models and you guys are a true inspiration. Thank you for that 💛
Eglantine, I can't tell you how much that means to hear!! One of biggest dreams with the channel is inspiring young women (all young people, but especially young women) to live creatively and go your path, so it really brings tears to my eyes that you say that ❤
I can barely get a man to pay for my dinner, and Lou is out here building his family a home 🥹 10/10! What a cute oasis! Looking forward to more family content! 💗
You two are so capable! Tent looks great and Max is a cutie. The amount of time and mindfulness you put into life is something to behold, a, and b, the love you have for each other is so sweet to witness!
Congratulations! What an a big and exciting new chapter of your adventure has commenced. Hope Max’s feet are coming along well. The casts and boots/bar are hard, but goes by quickly. Love seeing your tent. I just put up my 12 x 14 White Duck Alpha to serve as a kitchen/bathing/laundry, which almost doubles the space I’ve had the past 2 years living in my 17’ Yurta yurt. You set your tent up beautifully. Hope it is working out well. Will be checking out your other videos.
I do hope you take all the advice regarding bears that people have left here in the comments. It would be terrible if something were to happen to you, Max or Freya. I love your spirit and how you take on new adventures but sometimes you have a tendency to disregard risks.
Fellow woodland dweller here! I definitely recommend looking into a charged fence around the living area. It's only a matter of time before a curious bear, raccoon, or something else makes it's way to the tent. Freyja may keep them at bay with her barks for now but a dog won't be able to stop a black bear from coming inside of that structure. I also have retrievers and shepherds, they're the best but I've also had one attacked by a bear and it's absolutely terrible. Your home is so beautiful and I can't wait to witness all the beautiful memories your little family shares with us! Bless you and stay safe out there 💚
Thank you so much, that is a really point! Oh my goodness I can't imagine how hard that must have been, your dog attacked by a bear. Sending lots of love to you and your dogs, and thank you so much for thinking of us and sharing this advice! ❤
"That tastes like childhood!" was my favorite quote! As always you're an inspirational couple! Very happy to hear that Max's surgery went well. Thanking God and praying for you. Your videos are such a bright spot in our days!
I’d suggest getting an electric bear fence around the tent, they shouldn’t be more than $200-300 and they’re quite easy to setup and take down in case you’d prefer to just have it up during the nights!
Thank you, Anton, that is a great suggestion!! It's very kind of you to think of us and take the time to share your knowledge with us forest newbies, it's really appreciated! :)
We have the same snuz pod ‘next to me cot .. my baby boy stayed in it till 9 months old and he’s a Big boy. He’s just moved into the snuzkot and loves the larger space. I love how Lou was rocking it with his feet…I’ve done many a night doing that for rock xxxxxxx
Wow!! never thought a tent could feel so much like a home. Your husband did an amazing job! Congrats and I'm going to enjoy your progress, thank you for sharing with us. God bless y'all.
Honestly, I never thought so either! Lou totally outdid any and all expectations :) Thank you so much for your kind words and for joining us on our adventures ❤ Sending lots of love your way!
Get you a shade cloth, 70-90% shade, made for greenhouses, to cover your tent in hot weather. Will make a drastic temperature difference inside. Relatively cheap, and Lou would have no problem installing it.
Our son had bilateral club feet too. He's doing very good. We had to do the double tendectomy and casting for almost two months. But fortunately for us it was over the winter. It was hard to find clothes to cover his lower half. It may be stressful but it does go by super fast. Don't stress too much out Mom and Dad. Hugs!
Be safe guys! Bears can be really dangerous especially in the season we are going in! They are looking for food! Your dog won't be able to fight off a bear! Bears have been known to break down doors to get to food! Just be really safe and take all the precautions that you can! Y'all are such a beautiful family!
I love watching your amazing videos and you are doing an amazing job. a yurt would work. It took me and friend 4 days to put one up and I live in the UK with a separate wooden hut where the kitchen and bathroom and office area. my site is totally off-grid. I put two sleeping pods wooden on either end of the yurt and worked really well. I was born with a few health issues and two club feet now adult in the '40s and I manage really well with day-to-day chores on the holding and two self-employed jobs and I drive a manual car too. Anything is possible and there is always a way to get around life's challenges. I hope you are all together soon as a family.
I’m amazed (Lou) how your back is holding up after that water, detox, fast a few years back. Looking forward to this new project 😀 As always, Thank you so very much for sharing 😍
He has been doing so well! Actually he has an update on that planned at some , there are just always other projects that need tending to first so hasn't quite gotten around to finishing that video yet... Thank you so much for spending time with us here on the channel and checking in, Mary ❤
The beauty of witnessing people at different stages of life really struck me when I was watching this - really grateful to have come across you guys! I make TH-cam videos in a similar spirit as yours and I'm writing this as I am surrounded by boxes of everything I own that I'm packing up storing/giving away as I get ready to leave the beautiful house in the country, and throw myself into the unknown... something about seeing you guys creating and navigating these new spaces of being parents and creating a home for yourself really struck me. Sending love from Northern New Mexico! Also, some serious camera- angle inspo in your work - thank you!
By the way, you can look into getting a clothesline spacer, which basically is a set of wheels that attaches the bottom line with the heavy clothes to the upper, empty line, so that the bottom line is better supported and doesn't sag as much in the middle. :)
Congratulations! It’s a special location, You are both doing a good job. One note. A single coyote can lure a domestic dog to follow it into the woods where the pack might be quietly waiting. Keep an eye on your dog.
@@WildWeRoam I lost my Blue Heeler Jonas, by a pack of coyotes...one coyote will appear to be calling to "play"...and lure the dog to the pack...which then drag the dog far away, before devouring...so you never find your dog, or even minute traces...I have lived here in the bush in the Yukon Canada for 30 years...it is a real thing....best to aways keep Freye inside at night....love your spot...any swimming holes nearby? sure would help with the heat...all my best...Janis
Learning so much from this comment section about bears. I think we all agree, you have your family at the first thought of everything for this! I am so excited to see your next steps. But can we all agree that when Max giggled at his parents oooing over him was the cutest!
You guys are so amazing. I've been watching your videos from the beginning and to see how you have grown as people and all the skills you have mastered over time that has brought you to where you are today, it just makes my heart smile. You are such and inspiration and Max is going to LOVE growing up in the woods. Thank you for sharing your lives with the rest of us. Glad Max is doing great after his surgery! So scary for you to go through. Can't wait to see the "winter" home down the road. That tent though, it's amazing!! Enjoy every moment!
So beautiful! Just everything and you guys 💟 and it’s so cool to do whatever Max wants to do! My favorite stage ever! May God bless you and protect you!
I just found your video 'massive shipping container progress' and loved it. I didnt know anything about you but I really felt for Dana emotionally and instantly subscribed. So I have watched a lot of your videos from the start, travels, wedding, boat and Hawaii. We are vegan too so I will be looking into your cookbook. Lou you are very talented, Freya is gorgeous, Max is so cute. You are great baby and dog parents.
Coyotes do hunt in packs. The point coyote is their scot. They hunt other animals and dogs too! Bears are another predator who should be highly respected especially with cubs! It’s their home! You are the visitor!
I appreciate your videos so much, the sound is always so good, as well as the photography and the editing. I'm always so amazed by how many angles we get to see. So much work from your side, but the quality is always so so good! Lovely to see how you're living and loving ☺
Clothesline tip! If you get a few clothesline spacers it will take some of the tension off the line and also keep the items farther from the ground. It’s great when you have larger items like sheets. Wonderful video as always!!
@@benjigirl1971 Hi there! It does actually, my mom uses the system and it works great. You clip on a few items to the clothesline and when it gets heavy and starts to sag you attach a spacer that has wheels and can rope along the top and bottom as they’re going in different directions, then you can add more items and so on. A lot of the Amish and Mennonite community close to where I grew up in upstate NY use it.
Our little lad has been through a very similar journey as max. He is now in his boots and bars after having casts at 6 weeks old. He doing amazing. Great to see Max and you both doing so well. We’d love to share our story with you both. Percy is 14 months and a little fighter. Keep going you 3! We love following your journey. Also the tent is incredible! Lou is a true craftsman. From Jeremy & Fleur, England x
Beautiful video. Lou did a great job on the tent home and it seems like you’re figuring things out as you go along. My cousins baby had a club foot when she was born and now she’s an amazing middle school soccer player. Keep doing what you’re doing! Max has great parents
No way! Oh we love hearing stories like that, thank you so much for sharing :) How wonderful that she is now an amazing little athlete!! Thanks as well for the kind words ❤
You gave your husband a great haircut reminds me of when I used to cut my husband here this is my first time to your channel and y'all sing like a lovely little family and so happy and in love so I will enjoy watching you guys
Wow! You two have come a long way . I remember being inspired by your building out the van and being inspired by your art journals. And now your a momma and and poppa. And you built a house and trained a dog and sailed the sea. Just Wow! Keep on keepin on. Edit: I had casts on both legs as a baby, being extremely bowl legged. My mom and dad adopted me with my cast on. What a blessing. I love and miss you mom and dad.
Thank you so much, Tanja!! 🥰 And wow, thank you so much for sharing that short story of your adoption as well, that is really beautiful. Sending much love your way, and all the best with any creative projects you may have going on! ❤
Not to mention a bear could shred that tent. A bear got into a friend’s house in Tahoe years ago. Let’s just say stuff was in shambles. Hungry bears can be like a bull in a china shop.
Welcome back to TH-cam and congrats on Max’s birth! So happy to see you guys posting again. Your life adventures are such a joy to get to watch. I wish you guys the best of luck on this new journey :)
Yes ... anything with an aroma (food, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) can draw bears!!! There are some low-voltage "bear fences" people use to tent camp in bear country --- I really think it would be a great investment for that little bit extra insurance! You just string the wire around whatever area you want to "protest" and it's fairly temporary if you want it to be --- Bears require a minimum of 5,000 to 7,000 volts of electricity to be deterred-depending on the species and the bear's level of experience. I guess another thing you could do is build/install a bear box like they have in campgrounds to keep some food and also your trash. That would help deter raccoons and other critters as well. Places like Tahoe Bear Box Company sell them for you to build/install on your property and even have trash lock-ups as well. I hope Max is responding well to treatments ... my son was born with Hip Dysplasia and wore a harness 24/7 (I bought an extra one beyond what the insurance provided so we could always have a clean one) and his problem corrected in 3 months instead of the 9-10 months the doctors predicted. He's 30 now ... never had any issues.
You guys, this video made me tear up (No worries, only happy tears)! The way you deal with unexpected changes and with things not going according to plan is truly inspiring. Having followed you since the bus build days, it's so cool to watch you grow up and build a life and a family. I wish you all the best and hope Max will get out of his cast asap
I haven’t commented forever but wanted to say a few words. The wall tent is stunning. The Maine woods are beautiful and it sounds like not too far into the wilds making a cabin feasible. Consider an electric perimeter like they do for the workers living in Alaska mancamps. I would also have a weapon for worst case scenario. Know how to use it. These are how people live in bear country. My dad built a beautiful canvas wall tent we spent two summers while he built a family cabin. They used a cast iron cook stove to heat the tent and cook with. My mom used cast iron pots for cooking and to this day I feel like food cooked in cast iron tastes the best. Enjoy your bespoke fairy cabin and little Max. I feel your reticence sharing any medical stuff and I honor that. It’s very personal and private and you are protective. Hugs to both of you. I’m sure this last year has been traumatic since the beginning of Penelope’s voyage to Bermuda.
The Ponseti method sorted my nephew's club feet. Took a lot of patience wearing the foot brace at night as a toddler, but now he is sixteen winning races on Sports Day and living his best life. Good luck with your ventures. xx
My son, too, wore casts as a baby, we called them rock socks...the worst part was removing them the night before the Dr. visit, lots of filing. I never understood why they made us do it. He's a grown man now and never had a problem after that treatment.
Thank you so much, Volvo Mojo, Debbi and Karen, that is really so nice to hear those stories with happy endings :) How cool of them to now be excelling in sports, too! That is so great :)
You two are intelligent, well read and you do your research. I am sure you’ve looked into wildlife & safety in your area. Freya can be an early warning system, but not a protector. A provoked black bear or a pack of coyote could kill her. Remember that a bear will be attracted to Max’s dirty diapers and your vegetation waste. The famous bears of Cannon Mountain (NH) are attracted to the blueberries, not meat. They are omnivorous and will become more assertive as it gets closer to hibernation time. Be safe, we love you guys!
So we have a tent/garage. We needed to hang tools and cabinets, so I built a gable end wall and a wood rack for the side. I was really happy with the way the wall strengthened the tent. It lasted the winter without event. In NE PA with 17" of snowfall a couple times. I also put a 2x all the way around the base and used grommets to hold the tent taut. ⛺️ Everything looks wonderful!
Then on the other hand Man is so brave. Goes she is gonna cut my hair and I am like cool clippers?! Then she busts out just a pair of scissors... OH damn! This just got real! Subbed for how wholesome and thoughtful you guys are especially to your baby.
Hello, your videos are always so thoughtful made. Glad you talked about Max and casts. My sister had 1 club foot in 1960 when she was born. Best of luck with the wild life out there.
Happy to see you all again, you're doing life so very well and its wonderful to be sharing it with you. Our forest is growing up here in Scotland on the edge...one day I hope it will be as full of life and as beautiful as yours there....xxxx
I agree with you!! They aren’t going to share everything they have in place as a deterrent with complete strangers!! I have followed them for a very long time, they know exactly what they’re doing and have already said that this isn’t permanent!! Nor did they say that the precious dog would be fighting off bears either!! People feel comfortable enough to share their personal experiences with us, I feel that we should not judge their lifestyle so harshly without knowing their plans, period♥️. I really enjoyed watching this video.
The cast pot you were given is called a Dutch oven, it’s really really handy for cooking you can put it into the coals if you let your fire die down a bit and put coals on top and it acts as an oven and you can bake bread or anything you would normally use an oven for in it it’s amazing and one of my favourite tools.
Maybe Frejhia would like a large doggie cushion to put on the cot to make laying there more comfortable. Put a area rugs around everywhere where you would like a soft spot to sit on the floor. Rugs are a great way to define different spaces and add some much needed color.
Such a nice peaceful video. Just what I needed. Those big German shepherd ears that will listen to everything. I can’t wait to see what’s for your future. Happy that baby Max his surgery went well. Thanks for the wonderful video. I wish you all the very best!

You need somewhere Safe to hide if a bear is near. Park the truck NEXT TO THE TENT

That does happen here in the desert.
It almost happened to Shawm James’s dog Cali, from My Self Reliance. He’s in Canada. Definitely possible.
Wow! Never heard that before, thank you so much for watching out for us and Freja and sharing that knowledge! ❤
Great kissing, glad you are taking time to be appreciating Lou, he is supper special! Well done Lou! You are amazing!
What an amazing life you have created! I feel so blessed that you share it with us viewers! ❤️
You are great baby and dog parents.
wow lynne! so special to hear you stumbled upon our little corner of the internet :) cant wait to share more adventures with you :) xx Dana
Omg you guys are so adorable! Happy surgery little Max! Good luck in the coming months, can't wait to see more of your journey.
So nice to see the kettle boiling...always enjoyed your morning routines!
💙💙💙 I love that Lou used the phrase "slept like a baby" correctly, at least the way my babies slept! (Not at all) 😉😄
Me too! I actually laughed audibly when he said it.
Haha, yes too accurate! Sending love to you and your little ones ❤
@@WildWeRoam 🤗 thank you, my babies are 35 & 26. 😉
Cute baby 👶..🥰 🥰
Clothesline tip! If you get a few clothesline spacers it will take some of the tension off the line and also keep the items farther from the ground. It’s great when you have larger items like sheets. Wonderful video as always!!
Then the pulley system wouldn’t work.
My wife and I are getting ready to live in our tent. We had spend some nights there already and it was something new.
I saw some van dwellers put a blackout tent over the crib for dark naptimes. You are rocking this Mom life Miss Dana. You deserve it.
I love these videos. So beautifully slow living-which inspires me. You’re building things that last and that matter. ❤️
You gave your husband a great haircut reminds me of when I used to cut my husband here this is my first time to your channel and y'all sing like a lovely little family and so happy and in love so I will enjoy watching you guys
My people ♥️ so happy to see you guys safe! Always wishing you the best and watching.
🦋🌻💜
Thank you so much, Tanja!! 🥰 And wow, thank you so much for sharing that short story of your adoption as well, that is really beautiful. Sending much love your way, and all the best with any creative projects you may have going on! ❤
You guys really are an inspiration.
I think you should put a charge fence around the tent.
Agree
I am doing that to my tent today. A raccoon get in our tent last night!
Not to mention a bear could shred that tent. A bear got into a friend’s house in Tahoe years ago. Let’s just say stuff was in shambles. Hungry bears can be like a bull in a china shop.
i want this, but with a whole community ❤️
Welcome back to TH-cam and congrats on Max’s birth! So happy to see you guys posting again. Your life adventures are such a joy to get to watch. I wish you guys the best of luck on this new journey :)
How about a fencing enclosure. Not much help with bears, but maybe a small deterrent. Keep a bucket of water by the fire pit!
Hopefully everything will turn out fine for you both and baby Max.👍🥰👶
Thanks for saying 'hi'. We always miss you guys.
Amazing you get to spend the beautiful infant months together in the wild.
Yes ... anything with an aroma (food, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) can draw bears!!!
Putting a electric fence will keep you safe. Coming from someone who lives in bear county. It’s very inexpensive. Runs off a small battery
That cloths line is great 👍
How creatively cool 😎
Awesome 🤩 ❣️
You guys, this video made me tear up (No worries, only happy tears)! The way you deal with unexpected changes and with things not going according to plan is truly inspiring. Having followed you since the bus build days, it's so cool to watch you grow up and build a life and a family. I wish you all the best and hope Max will get out of his cast asap
Take care stay safe♥️🥰🤗🙏
You both are the sweetest couple!! I love your teamwork! Max is such a trooper with the casts!
Fairy lights would.look nice on those branches
The Ponseti method sorted my nephew's club feet. Took a lot of patience wearing the foot brace at night as a toddler, but now he is sixteen winning races on Sports Day and living his best life. Good luck with your ventures. xx
One of my friends also her daughter was an awesome baseball player in junior high lol after many trips to the doctor
@@karenw8481 So hoping this wonderful family of three has health insurance!
What a beautiful video and family and place! Your approach to just roll with it is a great attitude. You guys got this ♥️👏👏👏
Love the tent home. You'll get into a rhythm of doing things. Blessings to your new home and family 👪
Thank you, Sharon ❤
You two are intelligent, well read and you do your research. I am sure you’ve looked into wildlife & safety in your area. Freya can be an early warning system, but not a protector. A provoked black bear or a pack of coyote could kill her. Remember that a bear will be attracted to Max’s dirty diapers and your vegetation waste. The famous bears of Cannon Mountain (NH) are attracted to the blueberries, not meat. They are omnivorous and will become more assertive as it gets closer to hibernation time. Be safe, we love you guys!
Well said! They can smell food from a very long distance and are driven by the need to fatten up before hibernation.
Loved the video! Ty for sharing with us
Then on the other hand Man is so brave.
Thanks for the kind words, and wow, that sounds so gorgeous! Sending lots of love to you and your growing forest in Scotland, Gini ❤
I really admire how you're not shoing Max's face, I'm sure one day he'll thank you for respecting his privacy
You could try a blackout tent/cover for nap times when it’s too bright!
Wow. Some of the comments - some of y'all need to calm down.
Max is only there part time, sometimes overnight, not all the time.
Wow, very interesting way of living.
Good morning to you all my name is Judy and I am a new subscriber from Barbados West Indies.
