You know what really grinds my gears. We know that all the GM variants were compatible with beam weapons, but in 0083 pretty much every GM, including the customs and even the guncannon always only used machine guns as their main armament. There also was no mention here of such a weapon ever being made for the GM, what means it must be a post war model. Is there an explaination to this, like the federation having a very tight budget right after the war or is that just a very weird aesthethic choice the animators made??
i think it's a little bit of both. Stardust Memories direction is still a Top Gun rippoff, of course reg rifles are going to be favorized. In lore, beam weapons are not that expensive, but still, shell weapons are more easy to produce and maintain. Plus add to this that a beam gun/rifle is pretty much a one shoot kill if you manage to land a direct it, so giving all your soldiers such a lethal weapon in "peacetime post OYW" is not really good since technically it's better to capture small Zeon remnants that just dispose of them. In Gundam legacy they even show Titans GM Quels incapacitating Remnants Zakus with rifles then making then surrender rather than just taking them down.

Thinking about it you'd assume that solid projectile weapons would actually be even more expensive to produce and maintain, since they have a lot of moving parts and need physical ammunition and all the logistics to support and supply it. The explaination of using them to mop up zeon resistance fighters makes sense but the titans especially really don't seem like the sort of guys that would take prisoners. But after double ckecking l noticed it's actually not just the GM's but also the gelgoogs that all use rick-dom machineguns for some reason. I guess you could explain that by saying that zeon was running low on resources but yet again beam weapons seem to be the more economic option since the whole live ammo stuff. And further putting them on a high performance unit that was primarily made to use beam weapons seems like even a greater waste. So l guess it really was an aesthetic choice more so than a lore choice.
Federation did start to demilitarized after the one year war so think of it as a cheap alternative to the better beam weapons. Once the Delaz Fleet became a threat, they didn't have time to mass produce spray guns so Bullpups were cheaper and faster
I love this video. But the mic quallity does make things hard to follow if your not paying attention or have captions off (atleast to me). Honestly if you had better quality, video would have been perfect. I'll have to scroll through and see if theirs other videos I'm intrested in.

We usually blame Zeon for their trillions of different units, but the EFSF had quite a lot too
@@gundamfacts Luckily they usually had modular parts which meant they were MUCH easier to maintain and repair
@@gundamfacts tbh a lot of them were not compatible with each other. At least the GM mostly followed the same base design.
