And Jay's ego is enough to make me not like him. And they did financially screw Chris over, and Chris had every right to take legal action. The most genuine guy in Slipknot. I've always looked up to him since I was 11... The thing that most people don't realise is that he wasn't only a drummer, he was one of the main songwriters as well. The last 2 albums have been great but I can definitely sense the changes in the songwriting quality since he left. No matter how great Jay is,, Joey is the real shit.
Their last 3 albums aren't great and WANYK in particular is their worst. This band should have disbanded after Paul passed away and Joey's departure. They became everything they said they wouldn't. I kinda felt their flavour was off . I never even realized joey left until he passed away . It was truly sad indeed . When me and my friend saw Joey play drums upside down we almost pissed ourselves on how epic that was . My friend even built his kit to be identical to that . This man was a true legend

They are the modern day GWAR despite Corey saying that wouldn't happen. They make WAAAAAAAAY too much money now to just let it fade. So much like all the other arena rock bands, they will end up playing well past their "sell by" date and cycle in replacement members like a soulless corporation for as long as the money keeps rolling in.
Lol in their first documentary prior to disasterpieces corey taylor had said that slipknot is a machine and it won't stop until they're dead. Paul's death should have showed that to be true.

wow, fired him by email believing his skills were hindering from drugs, instead of asking a friend are u okay, whats going on, what can we do? seriously makes me hate one of my childhood bands a little bit, RIP joey your name and talent is eternal. love u bro
Fired him officially in writing. Like professionals do. Chris was let go for the same reason. The band has a policy since Paul OD'd. Violate the policy and kick rocks. Look up the "Condition" that Joey had. Listen to the leaked 911 call from his girlfriend the morning he passed.
You know the saddest part? They dont treat them like friends. In chris judicial process, it stated that the only "bosses" where clown and corey, and the rest where " workers who received a fee"
If no one in the band ever reached out over the years or said they were sorry or anything, they are going to be carrying a weight for the rest of their lives that will burden them without end…
Probably, which is horible honestly. Correy himself already carries a multitude of bad feelings he have already shared with fans throughout the years, can't say less from the other guys. I hope this stupid decision was not made by the band itself, but by someone who employed them, but idk. Joey seemed to still love the guys, so i doubt there was something really bad between them.
I definitely lost all respect for Slipknot after they kicked him out. Their whole message early on has been about the Slipknot family and the maggots, then they burned Joey via email. They fu*king burned all of us.
That is true. It's very disrespectful to fire an original member by text though especially if he has some disability. Imagine doing that today. Joey is a rock god. The irony that a Slipknot band member was fired because they thought he was on drugs when most of them were on drugs whilst making the first two and best albums makes me laugh though.
@@whitehorsedown6499 not an uncommon problem in the industry though, Joey just didn't have the paperwork to back it up, and as was pointed out, the band members rarely talked to each other. Shitty? Yes, but not surprising.
@@ShawnGamesDrunk there's also the fact that Paul (rip,) had departed because of drugs not all that long ago at the time. There's a possibility that might have influenced their methods. Idk, something like that being said over text just reeks of impulsiveness to me, maybe even panic
Never forget meeting Slipknot. Joey was the first to approach us and say hi. Was a really cool guy and an awesome drummer. First 2 albums are the best.
It’s very sad, I see Jay as just and employed drummer, he does well his job but slipknot made a cruel mistake to not at least invite joey for a reunion
It's sad that they fired the exact man that made slipknot that big, no joke when you heared about slipknot back then everyones next thought was "joey.." he formed slipknot and the sound they had..
I like Joey alot, but Clown is the main guy behind the Slipknot phenomenon. Also clearly underscored by the fact that they still make bangers and great stuff after Joey is out of the band.
You think as a founding member Joey would’ve at least deserved to mourn the loss of Paul Gray along with the rest of the band on The Gray Chapter. They really were the backbone of the band and it feels contrived without them
So to save you time, Joey had a rare neurological disorder which at the time was undiagnosed, the band assumed that he was doing drugs and fired him to I guess get him to get clean. They literally fired him over a EMAIL, which I’d imagine definitely ticked him off. Couple years later, Joey was officially diagnosed with the disorder and apparently there was only like one member (it was either Sid or Jim) who visited him in the hospital. Despite this, Joey still wished them the best. I can get what was going through there heads at the time, but the fact that they fired him over EMAIL and didn’t even give him a chance to explain himself or anything is definitely super messed up, and I expect more out of them. It was also pretty messed up that (reportably) only one member bothered to visit him (granted, apparently Corey did once say that he was planning on calling him but didn’t have the time). RIP Joey, you where a absolute legend
Dude just the fact that you complain about a video that was made for information for people who want to know about the situation is just lower than low
@Sam by your logic, The Ghost Inside had to let Andrew Tkaczyk go because he lost his leg, and Def Leppard had to let Rick Allen go because he lost his arm. But guess what, neither of them did. They gave their drummers the time they needed to relearn how to play drums after their injuries, because they truly considered them "brothers". Meanwhile, Joey got transverse myelitis, and Slipknot kicked Joey out immediately after, because they didn't want to lose any money from touring, and replaced him with the cheapest pop punk drummer they could find. But of course, Slipknot members can do no wrong in your eyes
@Sam you should probably do more research on the band you're defending, considering Max is Bruce Springsteen's drummer (who is arguably very good), and it's his son Jay (who has never played anything outside of the simplicity that is pop punk) who drums for Slipknot. And I ask you again, why didn't Def Leppard kick Rick Allen out, and why didn't The Ghost Inside kick Andrew Tkaczyk out? Even if Joey was on drugs, kicking him out was a very douchey thing to do, as every single one of them has done their fair share of drugs, and they have the audacity to refer to each other as "brothers"
@@jareddoran6605 You raise a good point. However, it is my understanding that when they fired him, he hadn't gotten the diagnosis, so, since it's fair to assume that HE WAS doing drugs (they all were, let's not kid ourselves, you're entirely right), they concluded that his dip in form was because of that, not because of some not-yet-diagnosed condition. It still was a douchey move. The douchiest move, though, was not letting him back once they realized their mistake and that they had actually fired a founding member for, well, being sick.
Jay can do his thing, but he'll always be just doing his best to fill Joey's shoes. Joey was THE drummer for Slipknot. I always held out hope that he'd return to the throne onstage with the nine, but now all hope truly IS gone.
@@Meansnare I heard them. They are good albums. But they are not good slipknot albums. Paul and Joey were two of the three original members of the band. Joey wrote a lot of lyrics especially for the first album. He did most of artwork and the logos that they still have today. He even wrote guitar parts and so did Paul. Slipknot was originally their project. After that foundational chunk was taken out (not just the skill but the ideas too) it just became the Corey and clown show. Some of the songs are good metal and rock songs and most beat out anything on the radio. But it's not slipknot
@@korihayes3477 very true. Corey is so egotistical it's sad. And while Clown originally got everyone together, the band wouldn't have gone anywhere without Paul and Joey, because in all honesty, Clown isn't all that talented. Chris definitely brought rhythm and intricacy into the percussion world of Slipknot, and they replaced him with a guy who comes across like he's never hit a drum before. Then they replaced Joey with a guy who's never played anything outside of pop punk, and make him out to be god's gift to the earth. The only decent new guy is Vman, and they treat him like crap for no reason at all.
When I heard the news about Joey being fired by e-mail, I stopped listening and supporting the band. You can't just fire someone like Joey who put his heart to the group. He was not only the drummer, but also a composer, a writer and one of the funding members. He is also the person who sketched the iconic logo, the tribal S. He really believed in the project and gave 100% of his dedication to it. I still have no clue what "The Gray Chapter" or the other album I don't even know the title of sound like. I wish things went differently. Joey is no longer with us and this makes me a bit sadder every day that passes. @Sam What exactly do you think im referring to when i say "what they did to Joey"?

And then firing him by email and not talking to him after that. Sadly, he’s no longer here, and they will never get the opportunity to make amends with him. I have always had a large respect for Slipknot and Corey, but yeah the way they handled the Joey situation is gross.

Since Joey's departure, slipknot hasn't been the same, and imo, the even kinda lost an identity in their sound. Sad
I'm not too keen on the whole polish and glamor they put on their sound, I totally agree... It's a little too thematic, or even operatic with this last album. That whole unsainted sound, it was too much like a Ghost ripoff with all the chorals and shit. And I'm not really digging corey's scream these days... It's guttural, without the frenetic grit. It has this effort to it, it's calculated without the full ferocious, insanity he would spit like acid rain in your face, he was so venomous and

It was an honor to see Joey play. I was 16 years old at my first outdoor festival and this man hung upside down spinning around playing the drums so profoundly I couldn’t even head bang. I just stood in absolute awe of the talent pouring out of this small man strapped to a giant drum set, feeling the beat of every pound deep in my heart. I knew I was metal head girl from that day on. My heart goes out to all the people mourning this incredible artist. RIP #1.
When I hear Joey’s reason is “health” but then from James Root, “someday I might be able to talk about it......”, that makes me think that something else is up.
Could still be the same thing tho
From what I’ve heard it was multiple factors

Rip Joey. I wish you could’ve played with Slipknot again 🤍
Started listening to Slipknot due to Joey. He’s a legend and can never be disassociated from Slipknot.
I know a lot of people have a soft spot for Jay but they need to get Joey back provided he is healthy enough to play. It's what Paul would have wanted🤘
Just got the news that Joey just died an hour agooo, i never knew this could happen, RIP Joey....
You never knew people could die? Interesting
Now that Joey's gone I've grown more upset with the band as joey was without his biggest love for the rest of his life. I still love slipknot and I think they found the perfect drummer if it wasn't going to be joey. I hope they had at least talked and healed all wounds before his passing.
f*ck Slipnot for treating Joey the way they did.
Didn't happen
Didnt you forget to mention that he also was a founding member of Murderdolls?
Barely any of Joey's other bands or guest appearances were mentioned, I don't think that was really the point of the video.

he had a medical condition that damaged his ability on drums, they thought he was slacking, after learning about his condition they had nothing but support and love for him. nuff said, your years late on this
I thought this would have new information. I literally knew and heard everything in this video already. I was a HUGE Joey fan. He was my favorite member. I just want to know why. I want to hear it from Clowns mouth.
Of course, all this channel does is google stuff and make videos from it, it’s how ‘media’ or news information channels work these days when everyone in there bedrooms an make such things.
Joey was screwed over by Slipknot, but Corey and Clown will never tell anyone that, as they're extremely egotistical, and Joey won't come clean, because he doesn't want to see his creation (Slipknot) fail
@@jareddoran6605 how did he get screwed over? It’s not Coreys fault he got Transverse myelitis, Joey had a Coke problem and that contributed to the issue, plus his drumming live was getting extremely sloppy and stiff which was the polar opposite of the style that made me a fan of his.
What were they supposed to do have the band on hiatus until he was fully back to full health? In that case the gray chapter wouldn’t have come out until 2018 IF that
@@romaretaylor9953 Def Leppard went on hiatus for Rick Allen when he lost his arm, so why couldn't Slipknot wait for Joey to heal? Also, they kicked him out over the speculation that he was on meth, when in reality, he was suffering from Transverse Mylitis. But of course, the current members of Slipknot can do no wrong in your guys' eyes
@@jareddoran6605 how anybody managed to play drums with one arm is astounding to me first off so God bless that man, but your comparing a glam rock band to a heavy metal band for one, and two, again that hiatus was a year and a half. If anything that’s a quicker turnaround than I would’ve expected if i was a def leopard fan. In slipknot case their fanbase wouldn’t have waited a decade after AHIG for Joey to get well enough and even now he’s still not really as creative or innovate behind the kit as he used to be. Trust me I’ve been a fan of these guys for years and years I had to get used to Jay but he’s proved himself over and over again that he’s got chops, groove, enough speed and charisma to handle his position. Ill always respect Joey as #1 tho why do you think Jay doesn’t have that number on his patch?

But then they kicked Joey out & I was so upset I refused to listen to any of the new material. I’ve loved Slipknot since I was a kid. So this was hard to get news of
I miss Joey so much :( idc what no one says. Joey is and forever will be the drummer of slipknot
It’s all about Corey and Shaun. Creative control and overblown ego. When you hear psychosocial, you’re hearing Joeys creative input, and that’s a fact.. Corey hated where that song went. And it was a huge success, and a huge blow to their ego. Slipknot has amazingly talented members, all of them, but ego and greed are tearing it apart. And I don’t care how adamantly they cry “creativity” or “it’s about the fans”, you don’t start cutting off pieces of yourself like this unless it’s ego and greed in the music biz.
I agree

I definitely want to hear the rest of the bands side of the story. Joey makes it sound like they judged him for something he's not. But there's always two sides of the story.
Try to guess why they didn't said anything about this...
Try to remmember that corey and shawn said that they would like their kids to take their place on the band... try to understand what they ment with that...
Nowadays slipknot is just a brand... the original band died years ago...
@@ONshowON - You get it... To add to that; The last two albums to date were almost exclusively written by Corey and Jim. It's ironic the fact that Joey technically is an original member even before Corey got there. Joey added lots to their signature/roots sound. But that didn't matter in the end, money-hungry mattered most and so he got shut down.
