Supermarkets here in Tokyo have delicious selections of bento boxes, many of which are below ¥500. People also can get healthy large size meal for about ¥500: a bag of organic leafy greens/salads (about ¥200 or so) + any omega 3 rich fish (cooked/smoked/raw) for less than ¥300.
@ TabiEats Family Mart and 7 Eleven were my providers of sustenance in Japan in 2019 and I loved all the Bento, Onigiri and all the restaurants I was able to eat from. Can't wait to visit again and for a longer time and try more stuff :)

These look amazing. Never really been to a maruetsu since I never had one in my neighbourhood. I could pick any of them but the one with teh salmon looks amazin. I love veggies, and my daughter loves salmon. the nagasaki specialty I'm goibg to try and make at home. I think the onigiri one would be very popular with children, but indeed need some more vegetables.

These bentos are nice and filling, but, according to my need for proteins, the best bentos ever are the ones Satoshi made last time for the picnic in Ome. We do have good food at restaurants come on now...but definitely, the Japanese food they serve here is super expensive and crappy.
