It’s unbelievable the quality of food you can get for such a cheap price in Japan, that salmon bento looks amazing. Crazy to think that any crappy fast food restaurant in the U.S. would be more expensive than a salmon meal
Right,especially after corona came,every supermarket and restaurant is selling cheep takeaway lunch and it's so helpful,as many of us lost much of income and became poor,you know...
I know I so wish we could get food like they do in the supermarket shoot I’d be happy if we could have a 7-Eleven like there’s I would never do take out I don’t do takeout anymore but oh my goodness there a 7-Eleven that’s better than some of our best restaurants over here in that a shame 😿

We do have good food at restaurants come on now...but definitely, the Japanese food they serve here is super expensive and crappy.
Food looks delicious but I keep giggling when I see Justin's little head peek thru the chairs. He cracks me up with his little doggie looks. LOL

Going to a grocery store is always one of the first things I do when I arrive in a country, because I love seeing what type of foods they have! In many countries, the frozen food section has the best food, but it looks like Japan has really good fresh selections! (No, I don't just eat frozen food when I travel! But maybe the first night, when I'm too tired to go out.) P.S., I love watching you guys! Great video.

Shopping in a Kyoto supermarket for cheap meals right after relaxing in a sento was one of the best experiences I had in Japan.

Family Mart and 7 Eleven were my providers of sustenance in Japan in 2019 and I loved all the Bento, Onigiri and all the restaurants I was able to eat from. Can't wait to visit again and for a longer time and try more stuff :)

Supermarkets here in Tokyo have delicious selections of bento boxes, many of which are below ¥500.
People also can get healthy large size meal for about ¥500: a bag of organic leafy greens/salads (about ¥200 or so) + any omega 3 rich fish (cooked/smoked/raw) for less than ¥300.

In my country a simple not-that-good spaghetti is 8-9$ in supermarket...
It would be interesting on how bentos are made in a factory or wherever they make them. It would be nice to see their process.
Thank you! I am in Japan and I like to go to Universe Supermarket to get readymade products, but I am not sure what to buy so your tips are helpful. I like the combination salad of a macaroni salad, potato salad, and spaghetti salad with kombu squash mash.

i wish here in hawaii we had such a great variety of ready made food sometimes cheaper to buy ready made but i would have a tough time making a choice n $398 yen.. you can even get mcdonalds for that price here thanks enjoyed the video

I love that you said that young people don’t usually buy the kokumai bento because they prefer meat, but I’d personally prefer it. I don’t eat meat, but I love fish and veggies. It looks so fresh and would be perfect for a lunch 😋

These look amazing. Never really been to a maruetsu since I never had one in my neighbourhood. I could pick any of them but the one with teh salmon looks amazin. I love veggies, and my daughter loves salmon. the nagasaki specialty I'm goibg to try and make at home. I think the onigiri one would be very popular with children, but indeed need some more vegetables.
I miss the Japanese Supermarket bentos. Me and my parents loved eating them when we were staying in Tokyo back in 2018.

In a way that’s a good thing you know if we had them here in the states we would have to pay a arm and a leg for one

I really came to love bentos from conbini and supermarkets while I lived over there. But all that packaging... Phew. 😅 But my go-to will always be a good bowl of katsudon or menchikatsu. 🤤 I'm salivating just thinking about it.
