Another great video. Saw something "new" to me, that makes perfect sense; putting the car in Neutral to keep load off of the axles and transmission and using the pry-bar to hold the rotor/axle steady for torquing. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I've never done that. Doh!!
A subscriber noted and criticized that I torqued on the axle shaft bolt (180 lbs) with the car in park arguing this could hurt the transmission. So I took that constructive critique to heart and now torque down these nuts with the transmission in neutral.
This is the best tutorial I’ve seen, I’ve got an 05 Acura TL tho. Seems pretty much the same, would you recommend replacing the seal on the driver side? Also what kind of grease are you using? Thank you!!!
New axles are around $100 each. Most shops would charge around 1.5 hours labor for each side (although I can do it in a hour). You'll need to find out the hourly rate charge in your area.
If the boot is split, there's a lot of free play in the ball joint and you don't intend on visiting the suspension for awhile, best to just replace it.
I have a 06 TL manual, getting really bad vibrations in the footwell/gas pedal when I reach speeds from 60-80mph. I did a visual inspection of the axles and everything seems to look good, no leaks no play. However I see a leakage going on in the bearing/seal of the intermediate shaft... is this my issue?
Hardly Moving Productions new tires were replaced and mounted but not sure if it was on a road force unit. My vibration is solely only in the foot area though, steering is perfectly fine. Vibration also goes away once you let off on the gas.
If you hold anther hammer face on the opposite side of the joint that your hitting they'll usually pop off in one or two hits, If that makes sense. Excellent Work. 👍
