From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. @@TrioLOLGamers Yes, Jon Landau did imply that the Alita movie needed to be beautiful - but the reason he differentiated the two in his wording is because Alita needed to put much more emphasis on being photoreal. jacky chong didn't provide any context that suggested he was referring to video games as he's now stated, thus it was assumed that he was talking about the Alita movie needing to be only photographic. This is a direct contradiction to what the producer said, which didn't make sense to me.

It's a disgrace that Alita didn't even get nominated for vfx by the oscar committee! Hollywood hate Alita when she was first released and they hate her still. I love Alita no matter what.
They hate her because she was not woke. They hate her so much that they gave the nominations to others (at least a couple) that have just average VFX. There is one thing Hollywood is really good at - throw a party and give themselves a pat on the back.

big reason for it aside of spot on visuals is that they stuck very close to the original story - all the important bits are there and alterations they made were pretty well though out and fit well into the story
i just wich they didnt rush through so much of the material and that it would be rated R as it should be ... but i understand they couldnt do either because covering just first issue would not be enough for western audience and limiting it to R rating would be a gamble they arent ready for ... yet ...

Reichel Raine Tokyo Ghoul would be cool, I have watched the anime but not the manga and the (Re:) last season was absolutely terrible, especially the second half. So many new characters and it went through the story so quickly I had no idea what was going on. Its pretty high on being the worst adaptation I have ever seen. Loved the first season though
I loooooooooooooove this film! I also love the big eyes. Yes, it reminds us she's CGI, but it reinforces the idea that she's "not completely human."
I kinda thought that her big eyes made sense if she was a cyborg super soldier, bigger eyes means more room for additional functions(or at least that is the reason why I thought they were big). Though we did not see any other function in this movie

i have completed this movie for the first time today & I can't get over this character & those big eyes (Scorpio eyes perhaps) describe the 12 zodiac characteristics of the entire Horoscopes & signs... This Alita has taken me to the era when I first watched Avatar in the cinema & i kept watching the movie on a daily basis when I downloaded it...
Being an Astrologer I was so deeply involved in that character & her emotionalism & protectiveness towards the humans (She is probably the Cancer zodiac) around her, especially Hugo & her so-called creative Father & the way she uses her fingers, describes the archetypes of the "Sedna" & perhaps the sign of "Gemini"... so brilliant...
This James Cameron is a super genius but takes a lot of years before he delivers the actual Sequels.. i hope he completes Alita 2 soon... can't wait for this sequel... i wanna se Alita going up to the ZELM & takes the revenge of Hugo & all that from the Vector criminal up there...

Cameron has been working on Avatar since he was a kid. If that alone doesn't show you the heart to deserve a sequel, I don't know what does. Just because you didn't enjoy the movie, doesn't mean the creator shouldn't be allowed to continue his story for the world to see.
juan2049 I didn’t say Avatar doesn’t deserve a sequel. I said Alita deserves one more, especially since Avatar’s story could wrap up satisfactorily the way it is. Plus the dedication of the creator is beside the point: Alita was way more charismatic and emotionally impactful than Jake Sully. At this point, it would be an uphill battle to make the Sully character at least as well-rounded as Alita

I watched the movie; I loved the movie.
IMO, the story is awesome. The concept is awesome. And lastly, the story telling is awesome (which includes cinematography, acting, FX...). They were awesome!

@@Wizenedfortitude the producers followed the script from the original anime very well. I think that is part of the "cringe" factor. It was hard to develop with the characters but their adaption of the original was spot on. The lack if character development comes from the anime version being about an hour long, so much to unpack with so little time.

I only hated 1 thing in the movie: it ended.
In a cliffhanger-y kind of way too. My parents and I watched it last Saturday and boy were they dissapointed with the ending. They enjoyed the plot though.

Living that quarantine life and been watching a whole lot of movies. Saw Alita last night with my parents. Absolutely surprised at how good it was. My parents loved it too. Really hope they make a sequel.

This movie was so good. It was a great adaptation of the original and also a wonderful stand alone film best movie I have seen this year a wonderful experience.

Once again an amazing job from WETA. Despite the CGI creations they're known for, some people may not even know that they made the miniature models used in Blade Runner 2049. These guys deserve way more credit. Keep it up WETA!
Well Blade Runner won best VFX at the oscars so I guess some credit was given even though they weren't responsible for all the effects.

Don't get confused. They are two separate companies, Weta Workshop who do the models, and Weta Digital that do the CG.
They were both formed out of Lord of the Rings, but now operate completely independently.

Movie critics are useless these days. I watched this movie with my kids and we loved it. Great entertainment. Looking forward to part 2.

'Alita' is the first Proper Asian-Based Anime that I've ever been into now.... so much that I recently bought the "Alita Battle Angel Complete Original Graphic Novel Set" and placed a pre-order for a "Hot Toys Alita Battle Angel 1/6 Scale HQ Collectible Figure" to add to my collection of rare Dolls and Figures.
This movie is just visually amazing and Alita is just a cute and unique Super Heroine who's story has a lot of meaning and lessons which reflect on our own real-world and human reality/emotions. I can't wait for the next Alita movie honestly.

My favorite scene from the movie is the one when she takes her heart out and tells Hugo that she'd do anything for him.. Asks him to sell her heart... I was literally crying man!

@@xPorsum that's what magnificent about it, since her brain is new to this world.. She's humble enough to trust anyone.. But that's not the whole scene though.. as she presents her heart to him, he refuses and tells her to not to just do things for others... If he'd have accepted her heart maybe then it would've been a different feeling about it

The actor who played alita was really good! Made the character feel alive and real.

They made a sequel (and a prequel) as well but the first is very much a stand alone read.

I am someone who did not read the manga or watched the original animated movie. My quick review of this movie is from a perspective of a casual movie goer.
The movie is very is very good. I haven't seen such a action packed movie in a long time. The pacing between story and action is just so good.
It's rated PG-13, but it feels like it should be rated-R. If you're going into this movie blind like I did without any knowledge of the lore of Alita Battle Angel, don't worry. It will entertain you for sure.
I saw it in iMax 3-D, if you have the money, go for it. If not, I'm sure it's worth watching it in standard. Just be ready to be entertained because Alita is the Battle Angel we deserve and I can't wait for the next one!!!

I have to say. They got Alita's look just like in the japanese manga. Just look at those big anime eyes. The only difference is that Alita in the manga is really young, like a grade school kid.

Well, at the start of the film, without memory of her actual age, she lives in a body built for a 14 year old, so she kinda is that young. Her brain has been alive for over 300 years, but she shows no sign of it, so her "age" almost doesn't matter. She is a cyborg after all, very little organic matter to fail.

Came across the movie on Hulu while I’m stuck at home healing a broken arm. I was so amazed by the way it pulled me in and I forgot the CGI that I had to look it up. The sunshine on her hair, the emotion in the face, the texture of her clothes. This is a marvel that is underrated.

This is the might be the best CGI-character I ever see. Like Gollum and Thanos there are like a real characters came to life in the big screen. And I love how they create Alita in the film! I cannot wait to see this beautiful film!
